15/10/2023: Looked at the match All Blacks and Ireland. Great atmosphere. The result was not the one we wanted. But a great Irish team. The pints went down well. Kevin C.

05/09/2024: As Always I try get to Lock13 every Sunday for Dinner, bonus being I don't have to cool. I love the relaxed feel of the place and the staff are always so friendly and helpful. They have a Set menu every Sunday of the usual staples, including a Roast dinner. I Had the Potato skins to start, always excellent & lage portion I went for the Steak sandwich with chimichurie salsa. Steak was cooked perfectly & the salsa really complimented the steak. Definitely recommend popping in if you are passing, they also do an excellent lager brewed in house.

The Thatch Bar & Restaurant

16/07/2024: When we arrived at 11.35 we were told that the breakfast menu was finished, but if we wanted to take a seat they would get us the lunch menus. We waited half an hour before the menus were printed and bright over. There was black dots floating in the drinking water so I had to order different water. Finally, when we did order from the freshly printed menu not all choices were available.
14/07/2024: Thatch and thyme can be great for a catchup coffee with friends or to break up a long journey. Unfortunately it's not consistent. Negatives first which hopefully can be reviewed and improved. Eggs Benedict, royal and similar are always tasty but the baps are always soggy, not sure is this from water off the egg or the sauce. Got the porridge recently and was expecting fruit compote, honey and muesli, received slightly undercooked porridge, tiny bowl of 1-2 cut strawberries, few seeds in another bowl. No honey. No cutlery. A friend got the açaí smoothie bowl, with fruit, coconut and muesli. Muesli was missing, didn't taste like açaí and was super runny. It did taste nice, presentation was lacking, the fruit had sunk to the bottom. The salmon and chicken salad plates can often be a bit dry around the edges. There is no baby changing table in the bathroom? The baby chairs do not seem like restaurant quality and are very unsteady on the natural floor. They are also filthy. I don't think the straps have ever been washed. Some of the clips to hold the tray were broken. Positives: On a good day the fish is cooked perfectly, the menu has great options, lovely salads. Coffee is really good. Hake when it's on is to die for, flavors all compliment each other. Open sandwich on their brown bread is so filling. Goats cheese tart and beetroot is really tasty. Has real depth to the taste. The flagstone floor adds character and is probably a nightmare to clean but it is kept tidy considering. The outside area is lovely with fresh herbs growing and for a small area they have done a fantastic job.

The Green Barn

11/10/2024: Amazing Food Fantastic decor what a brilliant restaurant. First time here will be back at the first opportunity. Thanks to Paul and staff for a memorable evening.
07/10/2024: James, Many thanks to you and your wonderful team for hosting a fabulous and exclusive (secret) roundy Birthday event for our family, and fifty guests last Saturday evening. The event couldn’t have gone any better. Starting with the Party family having the most fantastic accommodation in 4 super double rooms at your Stable Yard, a true gem of rustic and yet luxurious and homely overnight accommodation. On arrival our guests were speedily served wonderful pre dinner drinks while mingling to the jazz beat of a cool duo for an hour or so. Dinner (maximising your kitchen garden’s wealth of produce) consisted of a choice of starters, mains and desserts, all wonderfully prepared and served. Special mention must go to the duck main course, which was the best duck I believe I have ever tasted. A big thank you to Paul, your manager on the night, for seeing to all the guest’s requirements and Mary, who worked solidly until well after midnight! And not to forget the youthful Jack at the bar, and all the team. Finally the super sound system allowed for a great dance party into the wee hours. Judging by the accolades subsequently from our guests, everyone was wowed by the evening and the quality of the beautiful venue, the food, wines, music and general craic. For anyone planning a private and exclusive party, get out of town, come down to south Kildare, 50 minutes away, and enjoy this wonderful, special place. We will return soon as the brunch the following morning is to die for!

10/07/2024: Rang to book a table for last Friday 5th of July, to be told that we didn't need to book on a Friday. We arrived & it was packed. Staff member asked us had we booked a table we advised her that we tried to but we were told that we didn't need to. It didn't take too long but we got sorted with one. From the time we sat down the service was awful. Two different types of red wine were ordered but when the waitress brought them down she wasn't sure what one of them was. She left the glass of wine on the table and went to check but never returned. We ordered 2 more rounds of drinks and each time there was an issue. The food didn't make up for it either. The chips were reheats and cold, very disappointing when you order fish and chips. Then the bill came, we could hardly make it out as the ink was so faint. From what we could see it looked fine to us, we divided it and agreed on a tip. Then the waitress came over to say that we had actually been given the wrong bill. Again it was very faint. At this stage, we were getting annoyed, 33 was recommended to us and it really wasn't living up to it. My friend got up to look for the manager. She explained the situation with the bill and the service. The manager then gave her another bill, different to the other 2, this was bill number 3. We joined her at this stage and couldn't believe it. He told us that he went onto the cameras and watched every order that we got. We are a group of 4 ladies in our mid forties and fifties, we were not looking to get anything for nothing. But to be told that he felt the need to go onto the cameras, this just shocked us. We just wanted to pay the bill and go home. Needless to say, we will not be returning or recommending it.
11/06/2024: It's literally the worst service ever! Come here if you want to be ignored. Waitress seemed surprised we arrived, even though we had a booking. Had to eventually ask for a menu and then ask for the Waitress to take our order. Then asked for ice cream for the kids after and after 30minutes asked if we could actually get the scoops of ice cream. AVOID

The Hideout

31/10/2024: I was looking forward to finding a new local eatery but would not return for food. Service was decent, and the atmosphere was ok. Starters...vegetable soup was ok, garlic mushrooms were breaded mushrooms with a garlic mayo, loaded chicken nachos were mainly the broken bits from the end of a bag of nachos but the chicken coupons were tasty. For mains, the chicken wings and chips were not good. The wings were tough and lathered in sauce to try to disguise it. The chips were not as described. Again, the special buttermilk chicken tenders were bland and the chips not triple cooked. The chicken goujons for the caesar Salad were very nice, but the caesar dressing was lacking flavour, and the bacon was very fatty. I hate giving a bad review to a local business, but I honestly think that if The Hideout reduced the number of dishes on its menu and focused on quality of the smaller menu, it would offer better food. And finally, I could not believe there were cameras in the bathrooms. Above the urinals in the men's bathroom and over the sink pointing at the stalls in the ladies. The attached photo is from a stall in the ladies with the door open.
11/09/2024: Went midweek and had a couple of drinks and ordered food. Staff were friendly and accommodating. We ordered chicken wings with Jack Daniels sauce and triple cooked chips. The chicken wings were tough which suggested they were reheated in a microwave and then smothered in the sauce. Not good. The triple cooked chips should be crispy on the outside and fluffy inside. These were limp and quite tasteless as if they hadn’t been cooked more than twice, if that. The fish and chips we ordered was a little better as the fish batter was OK, but the same issue with the chips. Not a great experience.
