My recent visit here was utterly spoiled by the place being freezing cold. The waitress said that the radiator nearest our table "doesn't work". She placed an electric fan heater on a chair beside our table. We appreciated her efforts but a radiator which "doesn't work" is a bit of a tall tale!

House of Plates ranks as one of the top ten places I have eaten out at. The menu had a range that made it hard to select just one. Three fellas with good appetites were left very satisfied. Our mains were the Lamb, Beef and Sole dishes. I have to say, from my own perspective, the fish dish was amazing.
There was a nice level of conversational noise, unhampered by the loud piped music so often in other places. Staff were friendly, polite and helpful.
The two surprise dishes were fabulous.
According to the one wine drinker the Merlot was excellent.
Portion sizes were spot on: enough to leave you satisfied (with a desire for another tiny taste) but without leaving you uncomfortably full by the end of the meal.
The menu has a fixed price for either two or three courses which makes it very easy to split the bill afterwards.
The only (mildly) negative aspect was the "twice cooked chips" were very ordinary compared to the high quality of everything else.
I have, and would, highly recommend.

A wonderful expirience all around. We went here for our 5 year anniversary recently and could not have chosen a better place. Recommend without hesitation, especially for special occasions.

Really niceβ¦. Dark Chocolate and raspberry cake for dessert was insanely good. Feahterblade excellent. Pork good. Coffee could do with being warmer.

I found the food disappointing. I expected more for the price. The amuse-bouche was served with a cloche and smoke, lots of smoke around a crisp with a tasteless cheese filling. The starter was mussels and fish, the sauces didn't match, and the red caviar didn't make it any better. The main course was Irish beef; the meat was good, but the sauce tasted sour and of nothing else. The vegetables were completely unseasoned and not well presented; for example, the carrots were unpeeled. The service was okay. I just felt like it was missing that certain something. The restaurant also looked a bit dingy, with electrical wires in the corner that could have been hidden. It was more like a pub, as it was very loud. They probably need better insulation. All in all, there are a few things that could be improved.

An amazing meal - worth visiting Castlebar just to have dinner here.
Pretty much stumbled across this place when we decided on the town to overnight at.
The passion for the food is evident and the quality is superb.
I would rate it one of the best meals Iβve had anywhere πππ
