The best restaurants in Donegal

12/09/2025: There was a place across the street at the time that had way better food, service, atmosphere & decor. Dom's Pier 1! Hopefully it reopens! This place was decent, I found it less in comparison but still a good meal. Its flashy on the outside so I guess that attracts people. The meal at Doms had way better value for the money though & the man serving us seemed to actually care, which is rather hard to find in Irish restaurants!

12/10/2025: We came upon this place from a recommendation from someone we met on the street. This place is a gem just off the beaten path of main street. We came in close to closing time, but we were accepted as if they just opened up. Quite the change from other places. The food was great and the service was nothing short of outstanding. We had the pleasure of meeting and chatting with Jo the owner, and I must say, you will not find a more caring soul. She has passion for what she does, but more than that, she is a great person with an infectious smile. If you are cranky, don't bother coming, as Jo only accepts good people with a positive disposition. I would highly recommend Quay West, and we will definitely be back. If in Donegal, ask for a good seat from Jo!

12/10/2025: The service was amazing and the owner Joe(f) was beyond welcoming. We had been walking the square for 40 min trying find a place that didnt require a reservation. She took one look at us, smiled and said," I know ypur good people" and let us in 1. The food was amazing. My wife and brother had haddock and the hake fish dishes. I had the chicken chorizo rigatonni and all the dishes were super fresh and delicious. 2. Service was impeccable and gracious. Joe herself came by with a kind word and a smile 3. The atmosphere was pleasant and warming. Cozy without bumping elbows or overhearing others conversations. After the meal we talked with the owner for 5 min. Just the nicest woman you could ever hope to meet. Will always go back when in town!!!

17/10/2025: A 10/10 typical Irish breakfast! Very friendly service and waiters. I went with a baby, and they were attentive, giving him attention and toys to entertain him. Even though we don't speak the language well, they were 100% accessible.

15/10/2025: I wish I lived here so I could go here all the time. We ended up eating here on 3 separate occasions. Once for breakfast, once for lunch and finally once for snack. The place is packed, but they magically always seem to have a table. Great waitresses, so accomodating and in great spirits. It was great for a fry up breakfast. Lunch was incredible with their panini and their soup of the day with homemade bread hit the spot! Our snack was tea/coffee and sweet treats. I recommend the plum & apple crumble and the chocolate sponge. Just adore this place!

26/10/2025: We had an absolutely fantastic lunch at Simple Simon in Donegal Town! I ordered the vegetarian rosti, and it was outstanding — perfectly crunchy on the outside with layers of creamy avocado, topped with fresh arugula and tangy pickled red cabbage. The sides of roasted beets, feta cubes, and pumpkin seeds added the perfect balance of flavor and texture. My husband went for the BLT, which was packed with flavor — beautifully toasted bread filled with crisp bacon, a perfectly cooked egg, and fresh salad greens. Everything tasted so fresh and thoughtfully prepared. They also have a great selection of coffees, which made the meal even better. Cozy atmosphere, friendly staff, and beautifully presented dishes — can’t recommend this spot highly enough!

23/10/2025: The place is very well located. We really liked the overall decor internally. It was bright and sunny while we were there, so we really liked hanging out. We ordered burger, wrap, and a salad. The salad was really delicious and very very healthy. I want to highly recommend it to anyone visiting here (especially if you are vegetarian). The wrap was also good !! The burger was okayish - it was too sweet because of the relish. Maybe it’s a personal preference thing !! The staff were nice and friendly, however, another small feedback is regarding providing drinking water to the guests :) Not deducting any star for these small things 😅 Because we enjoyed being there. Thanks You - will visit again 🙌🙏

14/10/2025: Great little coffee shop. We came in just before closing and they still took our order. The hot chocolates were delicious and not too sweet. The lemon cake was very tasty as well. We spoke to 3 different staff and they were all very friendly.

28/09/2025: If you are looking for the Craic this pub is for you young vibrant crowd with great music and dancing.Pub is massive and great place to watch sport and chill during the day while coming alive in the evening.When we were there we were part of a next day wedding party that made the pub slightly busier than it would normally be on a friday.While mostly the service was grand some of the bar stuff were very poor ....too concerned with making coctails than making any visible eye contact with potential customers.After waiting patiently to be served 4-5 min I eventually asked a bearded barman (who saw me there waiting) very politely for a drink ....only so me met with a scowl and a cutting .....'I will be with you when I am with you ...' or words to that effect.Totally out of character for all the people and service we experienced in Donegal Town....the friendliest and most helpful people I have ever come across.Overall though great pub.

13/10/2025: Spent a couple mornings getting breakfast here, everything was delicious! Well-cooked with a few vegetarian options. Great filter coffee available as well. The restaurant has plenty of seating while still maintaining a cozy atmosphere, and the staff are warm and friendly! There is also plenty of parking outside for Blas customers.

30/09/2025: Great hotel! Rooms were clean and seemed to have been updated recently. The breakfast was amazing and really well presented (see photos). Location was an easy 5 minute walk to restaurants and bars / center of town. Would stay here again.

22/09/2025: Staff at the Gateway was wonderful and friendly, and breakfast was excellent. Our room was good, with a nice comfy bed, but it was warm. We had to open the window, and in doing so were woken up by the lads coming home around 2am. We also heard a couple getting freaky in the next room, so not the quietest sleep. Overall, a very decent stay!

02/07/2025: We had breakfast here. In addition to the super delicious and fresh baked goods, they also offered bagels and pancakes. The Americano and hot chocolate were great, but the pastries were truly delicious and fresh! It's a shame we're moving on today.

19/09/2025: I had such a great experience ! The burger was fresh and delicious, full of flavour, and the shawarma was juicy and so yummy. My son is usually very picky with food, but even he loved it .and that says a lot! The whole family enjoyed the meal. Definitely a place we’ll be coming back to. Highly recommend! The best think I like as mom ,the kitchen and the shop is very clean, normally I do t eat outside but I really love to eat or order from here 😁

15/07/2025: Hello. We’d like to share our disappointing experience at your café. We approached a staff member (not sure if they were a cashier or a waiter) to ask about the price of the tiramisu. Unfortunately, they didn’t know and just ran off saying “one moment” — we ended up waiting for about three minutes while they were gone. Eventually, they came back and told us it was €3 for a portion of tiramisu served in a plastic container, around 200 grams. Sadly, the dessert was very disappointing: it was hard in texture, had an overpowering smell of alcohol, and the taste was unpleasant — we couldn’t finish it and had to throw it away. Moreover, no one told us if we were allowed to sit anywhere, so we ended up eating on a worn-out bench in the shopping centre. We also had to ask for spoons separately. Overall, there was no proper service and the quality of the food was extremely poor.
