03/08/2025: Fantastic food and service! We had a fabulous night dining in people’s, would highly recommend this place. Food was excellent

29/07/2025: This place was recommended to us as we were staying in Cavan. Had the most delicious Thai prawn curry…EVER! Husband had the chicken satay for starter which he said was amazing and then had the fish & chips which was delicious. Crème brûlée was also amazing and I rarely have desert. Overall the place is beautiful and the staff are just lovely. Can’t wait to go back some day.

03/07/2025: One of our favourite spots. The food is always fresh and delicious. The cocktails even more so.

24/06/2025: Service could be better. A lot of waiting around to give order for food and having to ask for menus even though we had a table booked.

15/06/2025: 10/10 experience, food is excellent every single time we're here, the best staff around too. We had latte and desserts too, which was perfect for Saturday treat. We felt so welcoming despite the place was nearly full. Murph's sherry triffle came with wow effect. We were happy after.

15/07/2025: We were passing through and as I mainly eat a plant based diet I rang ahead to see if they had something for me. Staff were very nice and said they could do something. When we arrived they were very busy for a Monday. I got the satay dish without the meat and my husband had the potato and egg dish without the meat also. Both were tasty. Our tea came after the food and our waitress apologised. We didn't mind. We understand how it is when a restaurant is busy. It would be great if there could be one dairy and meat free dish on the menu . Lovely cafe though and friendly staff. Will go back.

03/06/2025: Been coming here for a few years now. My grandparents and I always stop in on the way from Dublin to Cavan. The staff are lovely and the food is great. We’ve had lunch a few times, but usually just go in for tea or coffee and a cake. The chocolate biscuit cake and scones are my favourites, and my grandparents love the eclairs. Last time I had a dirty chai and it was lovely. They’re really good with requests too, like weak lattes for my grandparents, no problem at all. The place was recently renovated and looks amazing, with a modern feel and outdoor seating. Toilets are always clean too. Definitely recommend!

22/06/2025: Visited today. The atmosphere was lovely and the staff were really professional. Starter and dessert were both very good. The main was just okay — I had high expectations based on the reviews, but it didn’t quite deliver. My partner’s steak was blue inside instead of medium rare, with a few chunks of fat and no seasoning + no steak knife, which left him a bit frustrated. I’d return for the setting and service, but probably not for the food.

21/05/2025: I got to luckily photograph a wedding at this gorgeous little venue a couple of week ago. And if you're looking for a venue for a more intimate stress free wedding I can't recommend this enough. Amazing staff, quirky features well it was a post office which is so cool and the grounds are beautifully kept. looking forward to being back soon :) Andy @ forgedinlovephotography

23/02/2025: This place was vile the food moldy and it smells like a homeless haven but the style of building reminds me of my childhood would not recommend unless your going for a nostalgic experience

25/07/2025: My husband and I are visiting Ballyconnell in our motor home for two nights Friday and Saturday. We decided that we would eat out the two nights for a treat. We chose The Anglers Rest last night. When we arrived we were shown to our table very quickly. Drinks order was take and we were given the menus. We both ordered the roast beef. The meal arrived fairly quickly and looked delicious. The waitress said the vegetables were on their way. We tucked in and it was as gas it looked. I waited for my vegetables as I like to eat my dinner as a complete meal. We waited for about five minutes and thought maybe they forgot about us. So l signalled to the waitress that we were waiting for the vegetables. Eventually she arrived with 2 bowls of vegetables on a very hot plate which had obviously just come out of the microwave. At this stage my dinner was cold. I asked the waitress why were the vegetables not served with the meal. She informed me that the chef hadn’t them ready and needed to warm them up. I couldn’t eat scalding vegetables with a cold meal and so had the lot put together for our dogs. My husband had gone ahead with his vegetable less meal which he said was mediocre pub grub. We didn’t even receive an apology from anyone we definitely will not be back. As I was still hungry we spied a restaurant across the road and decided to get me something to eat. I am 70 years old and if I am over hungry I will get nausea. We went into the restaurant which is called The Bridge. Well what a treat! Anne the owner was very busy attending tables with cocktails. We waited for about a minute and then she came to us. I asked for the menu. We blow me down with a feather! The starters choice was unbelievable inter continental. Greek Turkish Indian to name a few. They also offered a wide variety of mains but what caught my eye was the dessert choice. I was spoiled for choice bur in the end chose the mini chocolate selection. It arrived very quickly and was so well presented. It tasted heavenly. The sugar fix was just what I needed and l felt better after it. We chatted with Anne when she was able as she was very busy with food and cocktails. We learned that her husband was the chef and they moved to Ballyconnell from Spain where they also ran a restaurant. She was so obliging. We booked a table for Saturday night. We feel that it is going to be good. Denise & Jim.
