O'Dea's Bistro
Portarlington
04/08/2026: Visited yesterday evening for a dinner while passing through. Very friendly staff working well when busy, unfortunately food was not up to scratch. Had turkey and ham , was very bland. Veg was very soft and bland too almost like a bag of frozen mixed veg...Everybody likes their food to be hot but the food was ridiculously hot must have been blasted in an oven ,plate would scald you. Got a baby bowl for my daughter and she could not even begin to eat it for good 10 mins or it would have burnt the mouth off her. Ordered goujons & chips from kids menu for my son and asked for couple of extra goujons if possible instead of chips for him, hes autistic and will only eat the chicken. After a long wait, 5 to 6 of the smallest over-cooked goujons came out for him , and I was charged 13e for them which I taught was a bit expensive. As I said staff friendly, relaxing atmosphere cant fault them but we were disappointed with the quality of the food especially for the price point.
24/07/2026: Very friendly and efficient service

Eddie's Hot Pot
Portarlington
03/07/2026: Love this restaurant, lovely family run business, food is top quality 10/10. Great service with a smile and very reasonable prices
22/06/2026: Sunny Father's day, everywhere fully booked so we went with Eddie's based on reviews, but definitely not the experience we were expecting.
We opted to sit outside as it was sunny - it wasn't presentable: duck tape in the middle of the table, presumably to keep the table cloth down - looked awful. sat on the bench and nearly went through it because it was half broken. Went to get a chair from another table and the whole area was full of cobwebs. Everything is very old, could do with a much needed revamp.
Clearly stated beer on the father's Day menu but only serving Coors Light and 2 non-alcoholics - pointless to say beer, just put down Coors. Oddly enough, we saw wine in the "cold drinks" menu, asked for "beer" to be substituted with wine. Came out in massive gin glass, and miniature wine bottles, like the ones on a Ryanair flight - very odd, but not a bother.
Boneless wing on the father's menu but the main menu clearly stated "chicken wings". Which the waitress also read back to us, but 2 portions of boneless wings came out.
Food was mediocre: boneless wings tasted like nuggets. Steak absolutely tasteless, and looked like a cheap ateak out of Tesco. Was closer to well done than medium I asked for. Tough to cut through. Crispy prawns were over cooked - we were given another few because apparently the chef said the were over cooked - weird that they would get sent out in that case.
Apple pie pastry had a very sandy texture.
Only thing nice was the cheese sauce.
I'm far from a fussy eater, so I eat my food without complaints. But for the money, I can't recommend this place.
Staff were decent.

Great India
Portarlington
15/06/2026: A lovely and quiet place with a relaxed atmosphere. The food was authentic, delicious, and served in generous portions, offering great value for money.
One of the best things is that there's no need for a reservation, making it an easy choice for a casual meal. If you're looking for tasty food, good portions, and a peaceful dining experience, this place is well worth a visit.
Highly recommended!
30/05/2026: Food was exceptional. Better than to go. I'd definitely recommend dining in. Comes sizzling, fresh and masterfully prepared. Not the modern looking kind, but guys.. you want an Indian experience, right? So do not miss it.

Maxol Service Station Portarlington
Portarlington
01/07/2026: Hi guys. Ive just witnessed one of your staff helping a guy who seemed to be visabley impaired across the petrol station court and out to the footpath where he said thankyou and good bye.
That was wonderful. Im not sure of her name but she works behind the till and has blonde hair and tattoos. To you I tip my hat. We need more people like you in the world. Grà mór!

Hummingbird Cafe
Portarlington
23/06/2026: After a recommendation we called into hummingbird for a snack. It was 4.30. We were curtly told no deli food available by a very unfriendly lady. She was making up something for people and sharply asked them ingredients, no expression, no chat. They remarked to us she was "like a briar".
Won't be back, a smile, chat about the weather..anything would have worked.
Very disappointed.
20/06/2026: Coffee is too hot and bitter.
The lemonade is sour to the maximum. You better off drinking just pure lemons or a san Pellegrino can.
But the atmosphere of the place is lovely and the service is really good too.

Roma Takeaway Gracefield
Portarlington
10/05/2026: Best traditional chipper in town. Miles better than Roma on the main street. These guys actually care about putting out good food. They are also sound and always good chat in the shop while you wait. Good guys and good food.
07/05/2026: I never have a complaint here, the pizzas are flavourful and the chips are cooked to perfection every time

Oriental New Star
Portarlington
12/08/2026: Hate to say as they were always my go to Chinese restaurant but they’ve gone downhill a lot. There was little to no seasoning in most of the food especially the chicken balls, maybe they forgot due to being busy but not great when spending money as a treat. Also bland sweet and sour. They forgot to deliver the curry too. The delivery fee has also jumped from €9.50 to €13.50
11/08/2026: I had a Saturday evening meal there with the family, and it was wonderful. They had the best food I have ever tasted.
