The best restaurants in Portlaoise

05/09/2026: Went to the make and mark with my family of 17 people and had nothing but amazing service. Everyone really enjoyed all their starters, mains and desserts. Staff were so friendly and couldn’t do enough to help. The presentation of the food was fantastic and came out piping hot. Couldn’t ask for better. Edel was amazing and a real pleasure to talk to. I’m there a lot and will be coming back loads more. Well done make and mark you always do a fantastic job and have great service!!!

31/08/2026: What a fantastic spot , right from the door to the table the staff were on point . What stood out for me is something that's not done today and it s great to see , a warm welcome with a smile brought to table and informed that the table is needed at a certain time and to add plenty of time too to enjoy a relaxed meal not rushed (great touch) The decor is nicely done , not like any other pub restaurants, very comfortable seating soft lighting very clean tables and great menu options for food and drink . The food was a shocker (in a good sense) to me as I was expecting proceeded chicken for the boneless wings , nope it was real chicken that was cooked to perfection what a great start , as for the main s that again was outstanding the chefs are a master of their trade . Fresh quality and plentiful that gave me my hunger satisfaction and bang for my buck too . But I do have to say the desert are nice but a bit on the sweet side for me , I did get chuckle when I saw the unicorn poop desert on the kids menu (yes you read that right ) The pints were even on point , and I definitely will be returning to tackle the cocktail menu what a great choice of drinks oh and the gin trees too , I truly understand why this establishment has an award and I wouldn't be shocked if they got more . Message to management- your team of bar and servers are fantastic as I said warm welcome with a smile and very knowledgeable on the menus and drinks . Thank you for giving me a great experience to which is hard to come by now a days , I have eaten in a lot of Pub /restaurants in portlaoise and I can soundly say this is one of the best to date .

15/09/2026: I ordered the Saag Paneer and Lamb Vindaloo. The Saag Paneer was good as usual, and I’ve tried several other curries here in the past that were also very good. Unfortunately, the Lamb Vindaloo was a complete disappointment. It tasted almost exactly like mixed pickle, with an overwhelming sourness — it was like taking a shot of lemon juice. It was easily the worst Vindaloo I have ever tasted. I’m not sure what went wrong this time, but the dish was nowhere near what I expected from this restaurant. Hopefully it was just a one-off, as I have enjoyed their food before.

12/07/2026: The takeaway food at Mayur is tasty. The food in the restaurant however is phenomenal. Take my advice. Get a table in the Mayur restaurant. Sit in. Get some wine. Enjoy the food.

23/08/2026: They took 1hr and 10mins just to get chicken tenders , strawberry milkshake and a 10inch garlic bread pizza and forgot to get the milk shake and pizza and had to go back for it. They are so lazy.

24/07/2026: The worst burger in my life . I order a chicken fillet burger meal but the burger wasn't comestibile the chicken was hard no taste no salt nothing and sweet chilli sauce in the burger some salat onion and tomato honestly just NO TASTE. That's not a burger that's a JOKE.

04/06/2026: Chips soggy, anemic greyish colour. Poor quality oil or potatoes or both. Chips should be golden & crisp.

09/05/2026: Best chipper in the country! IMO 😅 I have relocated to to the North, but gotta have a Golden Grill whenever I visit home. Haven't found a better batter sausage in all the land either. 5/5

16/06/2026: Had a family lunch here recently. Staff were excellent, service was excellent and food was excellent. Will be back.
