04/04/2025: I'm a hard working Irish man working a job that the majority of Irish people refuse to work in and that is the care of elderly in nursing homes for many years. I arrived to Ballina for the night after sightseeing the Mayo coast. Without having previously taken a drink of alcohol I was refused service at this pub saying "I had too much to drink tonight". The real reason was my Limerick accent and what one local barman said to me. This pub believed me to be belonging to an "ethnic minority" which means to us Irish as the Travelling Community. I have been up and down my country of Ireland and as a middle aged man I have never experienced any type of discrimination before. What a shame they trade off the name of Joe Biden. Close minded bigots. Avoid if you are a tourist to Ireland this is not an authentic Irish pub.

31/07/2025: **Review: Two Wonderful Weeks at the "Merry Monk" B&B, Ballina** We had the pleasure of spending two weeks at the "Merry Monk" B&B in Ballina, County Mayo. The stay proved to be extremely pleasant. The B&B is just 40 minutes from Cnock Airport and offers ample free parking. Right next door is The Merry Monk pub, also run by the B&B owners. Our room was very inviting and spotlessly clean. The only minor inconvenience was that the bathroom floor got wet after showering, but this wasn't a major problem. The set water temperature was pleasant, and room service was always reliable, as long as the appropriate sign was on the door. Breakfast was typically Irish and very filling. We particularly enjoyed the varied and delicious food in the pub, which is offered at fair prices. We appreciated the evenings at the pub bar with a good beer and enjoyed the friendly, attentive service. The owner, Joe, regularly inquired politely about our well-being, which we were very pleased to see. The B&B is an excellent base for day trips into the beautiful surroundings of western Ireland. Overall, we would like to thank the team at the "Merry Monk" for the friendly welcome and a thoroughly enjoyable stay. Best wishes to Ireland, Claudia and Andreas

25/03/2025: Such a fab place. Was apart of a hen group , couldn't have done enough for us. Service was wonderful and we had to stop again on the way home the next day just because of how we treated . 11/10 ..

16/07/2025: We stayed three nights in a lovely large suite, located in the original part of the hotel. The room was great. The hotel and the state experience is a bit odd. In the summer months, the lovely interior restaurant area is not available at dinner, and instead dining is in a huge tent — suitable for large weddings and other big events, we suppose, but not what we were looking for or wanted. The four large TV screens showing golf and football were more appropriate for a large outdoor pub than a fine dining restaurant. The dining itself was quite good, and the portions certainly generous. The young staff was doing its best, but one has the feeling that they are not sufficiently trained or properly supervised. The place apparently caters to small group tours, and we saw a number come and go over three days during our times at breakfast. But apart from that, when we were there in mid June 2025, the place seemed rather surprisingly vacant. One very positive memory: the falconry tour we took on our last day. That, and the beautiful suite, made this visit worthwhile. If we were to return, we would avoid the summer months (and the hugs tent) — and enjoy the interior dining room at dinner.
