14/05/2026: Popped into danollas yesterday as had a good appetite and I decided to try the “ best fish and chips” in castlebar going by what i have heard .. I opted for the large cod and chips and was disappointed with the quality and portion size on the plate and left there feeling hard done by and not even full up . At € 17.00 for this substandard meal I can only say I will not be returning if I’m ever in the vicinity again and I’m even more perflexed to wonder who awarded them this award , won’t be reccomending to others

02/02/2026: Great boozer run by a gent. Looked after a bunch of Dubs like they were regulars. Really enjoyed the craic with the locals. Best pint of Guinness in town. And the pizzas hit the spot too. Definitely a place to visit in Castlebar. John McHale is the man.

05/05/2026: We stopped because we needed a quick meal. We were glad we did. As Americans visiting Ireland for the first time, we can honestly say these burgers and chips (fries) were some of best we've had.

02/06/2026: I found this place, after spending time at the hospital and having not been to Castlebar for a while, i was heading to the coffee bar next door. I saw Rua and was drawn to going inside. Rua is a lovely little deli, selling fresh bread, baked goods, sandwiches and deli boxes along with your normal deli pickles, sauces, wine, meats and cheese, coffee, tinned items etc. Really good selection. The coffee is great and you get a little piece of shortbread with it too, which was a pleasant surprise. The staff are friendly, they have a great choice at reasonable deli prices. I am a coffee fan and everytime I visit the area, I struggle to find somewhere who can make a decent cortado. This is the best I've found, in Mayo. The whole carrot cake looked delicious and will be next on my list to try as well as the mint straciatella ice-cream. It's weird that it's the small things that make difficult situations slightly more bearable. Many people don't know how they impact on someone's day. After a rough few days, Rua was a haven for me and just a simple well-made coffee and a piece of shortbread can make such a huge difference. Thank you for doing what you do.

23/02/2026: Scones look delicious today but unfortunately were very dry and broke up like dust when I tried to butter them

08/11/2025: Wow! An amazing hotel and 10/10 hospitality from the staff. Traveling with a baby can be nerve wracking but the staff at the hotel did everything to make our stay comfortable and kid friendly. Will definitely be back.

06/11/2025: One star off for instant coffee sachets in the room and a tin pot of coffee at breakfast I.e no decent coffee to be had. Otherwise decent hotel.

04/07/2026: Fantastic food and excellent service! The bacon burger was absolutely delicious—juicy, full of flavor, and cooked perfectly, with crispy bacon that made it even better. The manager was incredibly friendly, welcoming, and took the time to make sure everything was just right. It's great to see someone who genuinely cares about their customers. Highly recommend this place, and I'll definitely be back!

03/07/2026: We got take out today. It was absolutely delicious steak salad, garlic bread was beautiful. Will definitely be ordering again 🙂
