07/08/2026: Fantastic breakfast with lovely staff. An enjoyable bustling cafe I'd always recommend if you're looking for breakfast/lunch in Castlebar.

06/06/2026: We spent the night in Castlebar for a concert (our first time here), we got lots of recommendations from locals to go to the Tara Cafe for brekky the next morning, so we did. We highly recommend this cafe for food. The staff are so friendly and helpful. The food is delicious. So worth the visit. And right beside Penny's... its a win, win ✨️

06/09/2026: Was there last night and had one of the worst experiences I have had at any Lana, order was wrong, 2 dishes that were supposed to be the same but somehow looked completely differient, I had asked for no veg in one dish and no prawns in the other, when they went to correct it came back like they just picked them out. When I complained politely they blamed the kitchen being busy, no excuse. When food was being delivered they just dropped it to random people at the table no asking who it was for. Will 100% never go back again.

29/08/2026: Me and my wife had dinner in Lana this evening, the food was nice and so was the service but we were ultimately let down by the music being played in the restaurant. The music was extremely loud and we practically had to shout at each other to be able to have a conversation during our meal.

05/09/2026: Greeted with a smile,and although we hadn't pre booked,we were delighted to be looked after by our Host. Food was excellent,and we wouldn't hesitate in recommending it..

28/07/2026: I ordered a Thai Style Chicken. I found the sauce was very thick and awful spicy. The chicken came battered and was extremely chewy. This is definitely the worst chinese I've ever had. I wouldn't even give it to the dog.

10/06/2026: The first time I ordered it, for some reason I didn't like it, the chicken was bland, and there was some kind of jelly in it, I don't know, maybe it's necessary, but I was expecting a slightly brighter taste.

05/05/2026: Called here, for the Trad session and was very impressed, so nice to see all the young .musicians practicing for the up and coming Flagh, good luck Castlebar, the main musicians were great, and the dancers, what a memorable evening, we will go back.👍

The atmosphere is warm, authentic, and full of genuine Mayo character, the kind of place where locals chat easily with visitors and the craic flows naturally. The Guinness is exceptional, easily among the best you’ll find anywhere, poured with real care and consistency. Add in the friendly service, the family-run feel, and the traditional music nights, and you’ve got a pub that captures the true spirit of the west of Ireland. If you’re visiting Castlebar and want a proper pint in a proper pub, this is an absolute must stop!

14/09/2026: Visited recently on way back from achill, decent shop but customer service is absolutely appalling. As a paying customer I felt unwelcome. After purchasing food I went to sit in back seating area where I was greeted by a stern frown, no smile or hello. Obnoxious man directs me to table bluntly. I notice other customers receiving same treatment. Obvious the man in question was never though any manners or trained in customer service. Very rude demeanor should receive some lessons on customer service training to carry out his ‘“job”. Let’s down the shop as till staff were very pleasant

12/09/2026: Parked here at Casey’s in castlebar got food and was informed that the manger Peter had told a member of staff to get my car gone, I didn’t realise you can’t park at a shop when getting food in store. Highly unprofessional to overhear in the shop considering I was a paying customer and had my car there for 55 mins , I’d like to point out that there is no signs saying I can’t park in a parking space and at the back of Casey’s there is a sign saying maximum 2 hours so I didn’t over step the mark , a bit of decorum and professionalism would want to be adhered to by the manger of the store.

12/08/2026: I ordered the breakfast sambo and Never Again. The bread was rock solid. The bacon was rock solid zero taste the only thing i could actually eat was the sausage and black pudding. Food needs to be fresh this was a very bad

05/07/2026: Nice cafe. Tea was really nice, Twerky bagel was really good, ham and cheese toastie (the quiet man) a bit plain. Decent prices too!
