25/02/2026: What a pub ! The keg under the bar, the Stout is cream, Mick himself is a gentleman, the epitome of hospitality, brings out snacks for the customers, makes welcome and warm conversation. A joy to visit, I shall return !

20/03/2026: It's rare I write reviews but I had to on this occasion given how amazing everything was there last night at the house of plates. Went to house of plates last night for my birthday for a 3 course meal and I cannot praise the food and service enough. 10/10 experience. The food and flavours were sensational just mouth watering. The service was amazing and professional and friendly and there were no time delays with any of the dishes. Also loved the little complimentary starters that were given before our own starters came such as the bread with the beautiful oil and balsamic vinegar. Also the presentation of each dish was beautiful and thoughtfully put together. Thanks for an amazing experience we will be back <3

12/10/2025: Had breakfast here yesterday. Really gorgeous. Service very quick even though it was busy. 3 of us left there full and very happy. Looking forward to a return visit
18/09/2025: What a gem of a place, we’d been to the Deli the day before and bought some granola and flour, and had a take out coffee, so we were really looking forward to a late breakfast at Café Rua.
First impressions were a fantastic welcome and real friendly people, nothing sham or pretend here.
What a great menu, absolutely something for all tastes and dietary requirements.
The chorizo, spinach and sautéed potatoes, topped with 2 perfectly poached eggs and accompanied with chilli relish was excellent.
Real fresh orange juice was delightful, and the coffee? Epic!
What a fabulous way to spend time being looked after in one of the best cafés I’ve visited.

30/04/2026: Very nice overall and always good food for a reasonable price the only things I think they can improve on are the chips are always scorching hot and impossible to eat for a while after arriving (You would actually need to leave them until you've nearly finished eating the rest before you can eat them), also the mens bathroom could be improved, currently they have a long trough instead of urinals but I think urinals are a lot nicer for a fancy restaurant. The issues are minor and won't affect me visiting in future as I have many times in the past

31/01/2026: This is were all the cool kids go... of course I noticed it was the kids of the 90s. The best generation, But still cool nonetheless.
A great bar with some great cool hide away tables. This allows for decent chats and socialising, not provided by Bridge St, you have to bring your own.
Normally Irish bars have live bands, no shade as the kids say. But sometimes you want a bar with a great selection of drinks and to be able to speak to the people on your table. This is the place.
Staff are friendly and intuitive, not leaving you thirsty. Also there is a great outdoor area which allows for eating. There is even a food truck that parks right up to the outside tables. So there isn't much of a walk for a take away pint and meal. Also if you prefer other takeaway places, they all say that you can eat their food there too. The outside place is sheltered, but I wouldn't like to test it during a downpour.

Thanks for a fun evening, a tasty meal and a warm welcome! We fully recommend this place to everyone visiting castlebar! Much love from Germany, Kim + Jan

Dont think I'll order here again.
Rang multiple times, no answer.
Decided to go in and order then they got the order wrong, had to drive back again when I realized to change the burger they messed up then the replace burger was wrong again thankfully I checked it at the counter.
The really happy lady (SARCASM) working got me a replacement then without much apology or anything even though I had to drive back into town again to change it.
This place not quite as bad as the Westport shop but it sure is getting there with the staff they have at the minute!
08/02/2026: The Manger that served me was extremely friendly and helpful. (Male manager maybe mid to late 30's.) Really tasty burger. Shame they don't do Gluten free options though.

08/05/2026: Filthy! We walked in, had a customer say something snarky because we were trying to decide what we wanted. Used the restroom (it's locked, you have to get a code) and are our snack at a dirty table and I looked around and realized this was one of very few tables that hadn't been cleared. It was in disarray and you got the vibe that they just wanted you to get out

19/12/2025: We just had dinner here, the service was great the girls were very nice and helpful. The restaurant was very big, quiet as we expected. however the food can be improved in my opinion, we ordered onion soup as starter, it’s very salty we can’t finish one third of it. I ordered medium rib eye steak for main, surprisingly it was burnt so much it tasted bitter! More surprisingly when the manager came he explained the food were supposed to be cooked as they were, onion soup should be salty it’s French the steak is grilled to lock the taste in, he might be right but I think the chef overcooked it. The dessert was good!In the end they didn’t charge us for one set (one set menu is 49 euros), they even didn’t charge for the kids set. In general we were disappointed that we were so looking forward to it the restaurant was designed good and the guests have great space and keep their privacy. And the location right in the hotel, imagine if the food is good you needn’t hunt for food outside, it will be perfect!
