The best restaurants in Monaghan

04/11/2025: Lovely old fashioned bar. Staff were lovely. Food was ok.

24/08/2025: Typical (as of old) Irish pub, serving food until the afternoon. Service not particularly friendly. For the rest, nice atmosphere if you like traditional places. Mostly frequented by locals.

03/10/2025: Best Pub in Monaghan . Lovely atmosphere and superb customers . Great owner / bar tender .

16/09/2025: A wonderful little bar. Brimming with charm and with a very welcoming lady behind the bar.

29/11/2025: Bar man said we were "too rowdy" and "causing hassle for others". Disappointed by the service considering the photo attached is how we were for the night. Bar man took a photo of us all and didn't say anything concerning and then decided we were all too mouldy and causing hassle for others despite us being the only people present. No wonder small bars are losing business when this is what people are met with.

09/11/2025: Myself and Maris had just come back from a hike on the Monaghan way and were ravenous so we decided to get some food out The food in the Valley Lodge is always a good shout Nice selection of quality grub Washed down with a pint or 2

02/11/2025: I received an email the day before our arrival saying check in from 2 pm. When we arrived at 2.30 the place was shut. I had to ring and got a chef/cook to open the side door. When entering the hotel the man asked my name and said oh yea you are in room —- he showed us where it was and that was our check in 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️ the hotel is about 20 km from the nearest town. When we went back that evening to have a drink in bar that’s when we were told what time breakfast was at 8.45-9.30. The staff were all lovely and very accommodating but I just didn’t expect the hotel to be as far out of the way from everything. The breakfast was lovely but didn’t get a choice was asked did we want full breakfast and that’s what we got. This hotel would suit walkers or bikers but not really a family holiday. We had booked in for two nights but only stayed one!

01/09/2025: We visited Bistro couple months ago ,some dishes were fine some were kinda soggy. Salads,chips,milkshakes are great in there but holy moly these wings turned me off.They were saturated in oil ,they were soft,I honestly expected them to be crispy but I suppose that's just my preference,was not happy for them .Anyways bistro now offers an Inidan cuisine that is just off the top good,fresh meat,lovely spice,hot dishes ,fresh rice just class.We have ordered indian couple times in last month and definitely reordering

29/08/2025: We stayed a couple of nights here and enjoyed being in Carrick. The rooms were very nice but left down by two elements. Firstly, during fairly warm summer weather they were extremely hot with no ability to fully open the windows. Secondly, the shower was very hot and extremely difficult to alter the temperature due to a very stiff control tap - this was the case in multiple rooms (we knew other people staying here) and is something they need to sort out. Breakfast was generally good but could have done with at least some vegetarian options. Service was pleasant and the reception staff were particularly good.

20/11/2025: Ordered the Mix Kebab with chips and a drink. Chips are awful, let's move on from them. The kebab was lovely meat fresh and sauce was lovely and pretty spicy. Could only 3%4 of it and will be tomorows snack. Nice and clean and fresh inside comfortable seating with space for wheel chairs, prams and kids with bathrooms inside. Point for the owners the TV is a complete histroy lesson on Turkey which is ok for ten mins but you mite wanna change it up from time to time. Maybe some sports etc. Nice place amd woukd recommend for the kebab, English style meals i can't say as I never seen them.
