The best restaurants in Monaghan

06/07/2025: I had a very disappointing experience. I ordered a pizza, but it was extremely overcooked—dry, hard, and definitely not enjoyable to eat. The quality was far below expectations. Unfortunately, I couldn’t finish it. I won’t be ordering from here again. Hope the team looks into quality control more seriously.

28/05/2025: I have no idea what happened here tonight i am hoping just a once of but i had a pizza and it was swimming in oil, pizza had no texture and the toppings and cheese just feel off it with grease. The base was wet as the grease leaked through and made me feel sick after a few slices.

18/02/2025: I was on a road trip and ordered takeaway for me and my husband and 2 boys via phone for pickup in store. The phone reception was not too great got the same cold treatment when I was instore to pickup my order. I paid 45 euro for 2 kids meal of chips and sausage, adult meal of fish and chips and a classic beef burger with chips. Nothing was tasty although fresh everything was blunt. I was not given a breakdown receipt of what I paid for . I was asked to sit and the food was just put on the table saying here is your order. There was no cutlery, paper towel or ketchup in the bag. They get a zero for everything except the atmosphere of the place. I would not recommend.

20/07/2025: I have been here a few times and it has always been good. So unexpected considering where it is. We have a 70 mile journey to get there, that says enough!

12/07/2025: Today my husband and I shopped in the outdoor furniture end of Flemings and we were truly impressed with the service we received by all members of staff. On leaving the store my husband told them he was really satisfied with how our shopping experience in the store had been. Top marks to Flemings!!!!

30/06/2025: Called in over the weekend, delighted to see Stonewell Dry and even the Stonewell Non Alcoholic on the shelves of the off-licence. I couldn't find the Stonewell Medium Dry though.

04/07/2025: We went for lunch a few days ago, bought food to the value of €35, I asked for an extra cup to have a cup of tea from the pot my daughter wasn't finishing,only to be informed rudely by the owner that if I got an empty cup she would charge for another tea, we were very surprised that this was a policy and also very annoyed as I am a regular customer as is my family. Needless to say we won't be rushing back.

22/07/2025: Great place to go and have a nice and quiet dinner. The food was unreal and the staff were very welcoming. Happily recommend to others!

07/08/2025: Recently attended a wedding at the Four Seasons, Monaghan. As guests we were given a discount code to use. When reserving the room online the system would not accept the code. I contacted the hotel and was told to go ahead and reserve the room and when it came to payment the discount would be given. I received my payment reminder prior to my visit but the discount had not been given. I contacted the hotel and was told it was too late to use the discount code contradicting the previous advice. Was not happy with this at all. If I had known this I would have chosen alternative accommodation. The room was very basic, similar to that of a budget no frills hotel. Was very disappointed with the breakfast, I had the continental as I don’t have a cooked breakfast. You had to pay extra for a cappuccino or latte and were offered cold black coffee instead. The fruit salad for breakfast was fermented, it sat in a big plastic container and looked like it had been there for a few days. Not good at all it could make someone ill. Not impressed with this hotel at all, will definitely not be coming back.

24/07/2025: Just visited Four Seasons as part of a coach tour. Room was comfortable. Staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast and evening meals offered good choice and were delicious. Would highly recommend and return.

11/06/2025: We were part of an event held at Hillgrove Hotel, Monaghan for Barry McGuigan the service by Liz and the team looking after the guests was first class as was the food. we stayed at the hotel which the team enjoyed. Highly recommend this hotel.

10/06/2025: Rooms could be upgraded. However they are very comfortable. The place is a bit dated. Some evidence of damp in the breakfast area. The location is slightly out of town but it is an easy walk to town. Service is good. Some evidence when we were there of oppressive management which can be off-putting. Staff are friendly.

08/05/2025: It is a great Subway with a wide variety of delicious fresh ingredients. Service is always good and the place is very clean. It's located in part of a service station with loos and which sells lots of different every day essentials. There's also a hot food counter here. It's worth downloading the Subway app, which offers lots of great rewards, e.g., foot long for the price of 6 inch or free upgrade to a meal deal etc etc...

26/06/2025: Friendly staff behind the deli, chips are so nice, currently undertaking renovations, will be some spot when finished! Toilets can be hit and miss sometimes! Busy spot

22/06/2025: Stopped on the way back from Zach Bryan concert on Friday night. Thank you for the great service and facilities for a late night driving break.

01/08/2025: Beautiful kebabs with a nice man serving. Don't know how it's not packed. I got a donor kebab and it was gorgeous. Cheap at only €7 aswell

27/08/2025: Lovely bakery with beautiful cakes, scones and bakes, fresh artisan loaves and a fine coffee selection- the flat white was great. It was busy each time we visited, always a good sign. They do fresh sandwiches to order as well as sausage rolls etc. They also have vegan options and plant milks available. Very friendly service 👍

08/08/2025: Stephen & his family's attention to detail when it comes to managing Matilda's is second to none. All local products and the place has been family run for 100 years!!

18/07/2025: Excellent service.and Brunch menu. The food and prices were well worth the visit. It won't be the last time I eat there. Recommended.

29/06/2025: Definitely wouldn’t recommend. Ordered food waited 40 minutes plus to then see other tables in after us getting served food before us. Went to the counter to explain and all the staff standing talking to each other to then say our order was never placed. To then try and charge us for two drinks ??? VERY DISAPPOINTING!!!!!! Will never be back
