The best restaurants in Monaghan

27/09/2026: Five of us had a lovely meal here, the pasta carbonara is lovely served with garlic bread served in a big bowl full of flavour you can exactly taste the garlic sauce lovely and creamy, chips are delicious to. My husband got the breakfast he said it was lovely he couldn't finish it, the only fault was he had to ask two different members of staff to bring his pot of tea that was supposed to come the breakfast. By the time he got his tea he was half way through the breakfast.We got lovely buns to take home they were lovely.

06/07/2026: As a hospitality worker myself I can see these girls are extremely well trained. So attentive and welcoming. Making sure you have everything you need and talking to you as if you’re a regular even when it’s your first time there. Amazing staff!

27/07/2026: We had such a lovely time at the bowling and soft play! (Castleblayney) The facilities were great, clean, and perfect for a fun family day out. A special thank you to Alannah, who made our visit even more enjoyable. She was so pleasant, kind, and incredibly accommodating throughout our time there. Nothing was too much trouble, and her friendly attitude really stood out. Excellent customer service can make all the difference, and Alannah is a real credit to the team!

25/07/2026: staff are good but the playground is very limited and boring. The section for toddlers is very poor and limited

04/08/2026: A cosy, colourful little café in a cute village, perfect for a stop on a long drive. The sandwiches are delicious, on plump toasty bread and really nicely presented. Lovely choice of desserts, but there's also a very tempting icecream counter which attracts a lot of happiness off the streets. Lots of tourist souvenirs for sale as well as some usual newsagent supplies. There staff are friendly and fast with orders, the place is a gem.

26/07/2026: Go 10 minutes down the road to Cafe Rose instead. We ordered sandwiches and waited 20 minutes until we asked how long it would be. They said 10 more minutes. There were two staff that we could see, it was a week day and not busy. We got our money back and left.

01/05/2026: Beautiful hotel, attended a wedding here. The bedroom had lovely decor, a queen sized bed and was spotless. The wedding seemed to run very smoothly, small gaps between courses to allow digestion and no tables appeared to have to wait long time. There were only 2 bar staff so the service there could be slow enough at times, especially as the promoted the cocktail list which obviously takes longer to prepare. Few niggles were when serving the toast wine, our table was only offered white and when the bottle ran out they didn't come back to us so some of us didn't actually have a drink for the toasts. Also, the same nearly happened with the tea! The girl moved to another table before checking she had offered everyone at our table. Just staff being either inexperienced or not fully engaged which isn't really good enough when you consider how much is paid by the bride and groom. The food was good and well portioned. The separate reception area for the welcome reception is a major plus for anyone who is looking a wedding venue

25/07/2026: The evening was our 1st time in Ambledown cottages. My pizzas is absolutely amazing. I got BBQ pizza.

19/07/2026: Love this wee spot, quirky with nice staff and pizzas were well above average, lovely place to go, don't go if your grumpy , poor and don't like pizza .

12/09/2026: Been to various Supermacs over the years and I've never been disappointed with their food. Carrickmacross was equally good but their service was ridiculously slow. I was 20 minutes waiting for a burger, there were only 2 people ahead of me and they had already ordered. I could see my burger sitting in the hot shelf for 10 minutes while the staff wandered around talking. I have family in Carrick who also commented on how slow it was. I've been in others and never had this problem. Sort it out Supermacs, the food is great, but 20 minutes for a burger and chips?

30/10/2025: I was attracted by the Irish 🇮🇪 and Palestine 🇵🇸 flag floating together! And mashallah, the place is cozy and the service excellent! Great food and great caffé at a fair price!

07/10/2025: Absolutely love this place since it became Avenue Coffee (was a Rock salt). They somehow made it even better. Lovely staff, lovely coffee! The outside got a great revamp too... Looks even better now!!

11/07/2026: The pasta is good, small portion but worth what you pay for! The service was average, not very warm, we were in a corner and felt forgot about. They got the drink order confused and then wrongly charge for it. Served a flat cola which was most likely not Coke, without saying it wasn't.

26/07/2026: Kip of a bar but the craic just hit anyways. love a trashy lil bar in the heart of Monaghan town Bartenders r sum craic too they so funny. the live music is the best!!

27/08/2026: In here everyday, friendly staff and veryhelpful. Very convenient for my work. I have never had a negative experience in tge shop.

02/08/2026: Went for a nice getaway with friends and this place was definitely worth a visit! Had high quality food for a good price and the portions were great for sharing and me and my friends left with a full stomach, I’d honestly love to have dinner here everyday if I could 😂
