04/06/2025: For me this is a great restaurant. I have been a few times and it's always the same, brilliant food, family feeling, friendly service and super value. For me a great restaurant is one that makes you feel good as soon as you step inside, before even looking at the menu and An Chistin Beag ticks that box every time
24/05/2025: Before visiting Skibbereen, we decided to have lunch at An Christin Beag (the small kitchen) based on the reviews we read. We very much enjoyed our experience. My wife had a BLT sandwich and I ordered the baked Hake with mashed potatoes and vegetables. The Hake was simply excellent. Perfectly cooked and amply portionned. The service was very efficient. Highly recommended!

05/07/2025: Field's is legendary. Fabulous in-house breads, cakes, black puddings, rashers etc. A really superb selection of wines, I picked up some amazing wines - 2nd & 5th growth Bordeaux. When in the area it is a must to stop into Field's.
05/07/2025: A very large selection of products, an excellent cheese department and especially pleasant staff. Namely, the alcohol department with a huge selection and good discounts. Always!

05/07/2025: We were visiting Ireland and stopped at Skibbereen for lunch. The plant based meal was one of the best I have ever eaten. My husband and I split the mushroom sub and we each had a bowl of vegetable soup. The flavors in both were delicious and perfectly balanced. It was the best veggie soup we have had. The mushrooms were marinated so well that it gave a rich flavor to the sandwich.
29/06/2025: A brilliant bookshop, but their bigger premises five minutes down the road, Inanna Rare Books is phenomenal, well worth having a look in both.

19/05/2025: Found this little gem and had breakfast both mornings we were in Skibbereen. Fantastic, friendly service and great food, freshly prepared for us. I am a bit of a coffee snob and was not disappointed..... If I return to Skibbereen I shall most certainly revisit Applebettys... PS, thanks for finding and posting my sunglasses. X

15/06/2025: Great pub, large with plenty of different areas, old school and traditional. The owner William was absolutely lovely, loved having the chats and gave us plenty of information on the area and the farmers market , which is on every Saturday in the town and well worth a visit.

07/06/2025: The fish here is outstanding. You will struggle to find better in a sit down restaurant let alone a chipper. I go here a couple of times a year and have tried a few other things on the menu which were all excellent. Staff friendly and efficient and it is good value.
Can be a bit of a wait at busy times which in itself is a good sign. Highly recommended

Friendly staff.
You can park your car in the large parking lot behind the hotel. (You have to look for it, the entrance is a bit hidden)

06/06/2025: Came in few hours ago to grab a late breakfast. I got a toasted sandwich (forgot the name but had lots of chicken and cheese inside) and sausage roll (pork and caramelised onions) to go. The sandwich was beautiful! Perfect level of crisp from the bread and the melted cheese blended with the rest of the contents very well. Not super heavy either. The sausage roll was only consumed an hour after purchase but it was hearty, remained crispy and full of flavour. Workers were very kind and accommodating also so I’ll definitely be back!

The Restaurant at Liss Ard

23/06/2025: Incredible place. But a stifling hot room - with heating on and, madder still, fires lit at midsummer - meant that we couldn’t sleep and ended up walking around the grounds until 2am (which was magical). Coupled with disorganisation and poor communication with and between the staff meant for a chaotic stay. At this price it should be perfect. I offered the opportunity to discuss privately with a manager, but they never called back.
