The best restaurants in Skibbereen

27/04/2025: Really enjoyed the atmosphere here, and the staff were very friendly. My husband enjoyed his burger, but I ordered the fish and chips and thought the fish was bland and couldn’t eat it. I mentioned this upon paying, and was told that I just didn’t know how good fish tasted. I wasn’t looking for a free meal, but simply wanted to let them know my feedback. I was not impressed with the way they talked down to me at the til, and will not return or recommend this restaurant to others.

22/04/2025: Tea room and grocery store. Self service and tables available upstairs. Typical atmosphere in the morning when locals come to have breakfast.

21/04/2025: The superb vegan food and bookstore surroundings show a wonderful attention to detail all done with heart.

09/04/2025: found the service lacking after a voucher was bought for the shop, was looking for a specific book and was told look elsewhere, still have the voucher and got the book.

18/04/2025: Great cafe in a central location. We enjoyed sitting outside in the sun. The food was great and the service was very friendly. :)

30/12/2024: Excellent cafe with great atmosphere. We had veg soup with fabulous brown bread and cappuccinos last Friday. It was so busy but everyone was accommodated in an easy manner. Tables rearranged for bigger/smaller groups and lots of chat too.

13/04/2025: oh well.. what can i say? the most delicious cakes and brewed coffee in skibbereen that comes to my mind<3 the interior itself is incredibly cozy and atmospheric, makes the coffee drinking experience even better. staff is very polite and well mannered too, i do recommend:) ps: as a bonus, the cafe sells paintings of local artists, so you get a feeling as if you're in real art gallery!

04/04/2025: Such a wonderful vibe! Painting pottery is so relaxing. A visit to cré pottery is a must when on holiday in skibbereen… plan to go early in your holiday so you art work can be glazed and ready to be picked up a few days later. As a local I love coming back here again and again. Thank you to all at Cré 💕

29/12/2024: If I could give zero stars I would. Cancelled my booking just 1.5 days before our New Years Eve trip for a close friends wedding, leaving us with nowhere to stay and slim chances of getting something on such a busy night at such short notice. Cited priority for booking.com customers - I had booked on the phone months before. Despicable customer service.

07/11/2024: Myself, my husband and our 2.5 year old stopped in for a quick soup while out running errands. The barman was very attentive making sure our little fella was well looked after too. We had a veg soup and chips. Soups was really tasty and not like the imitation baby food ya get in most places. The chips were skin on skinny chip with a decent amount too. They were great. My husband loved the MUG of great coffee. They pull a good pint too.

15/03/2025: Tried to use the dial in service rang twice and was put on hold for 5 minutes each time. During this time I could overhear staff and customer conversations. Might be better if you attend in person but there is the potential for your conversation to be overheard. So choose your words and who you talk about wisely.

02/02/2025: Food actually wasn’t bad, the lady at front of house was. Ordered our food and 2 cans of coke which were out of date with a month, when I told the lady that I am pregnant and she sold them which were out of date she goes sorry do you want another one- didn’t seem genuine pretended like she didn’t know they were gone off and still didn’t take them out of the fridge! Won’t be the last they’re hearing from me if I get sick… careful lads what else is out of date in there… turned me off going back

26/04/2025: I was so impressed with the Beautiful West Cork Hotel in Skibbereen. Staff are excellent. Rooms are excellent. Look forward to staying there again. Exceptional Hotel Exceptional Staff.

12/02/2025: Beautiful estate and landscape with trails and James Turrell Sky Garden. The chef at the restaurant worked without prior notice to give us exceptional vegan options and also accommodating my food allergies. Wonderful library. We will return.

10/02/2025: We had a very relaxing stay, thanks to the hotel’s limited number of rooms, which made for a peaceful atmosphere. The open fire in the evening was a lovely touch, adding to the cozy ambiance. Our room was modern and well-equipped, complete with a Nespresso coffee machine. However, there was an unpleasant smell in the room, which may have been due to animals being allowed to stay there. The staff were very helpful and friendly throughout our stay, which made a big difference. However, dining options were quite limited. The only available choice was the restaurant menu, which doesn’t cater to all needs. For example, after a late lunch one day, we wanted a small bite in the evening but found there was no bar menu—only the full restaurant menu, which is quite expensive for the portion sizes. Given that there are also limited dining options locally in Skibbereen town, it would be helpful if the hotel offered a more flexible bar menu. That said, the hotel’s grounds are beautifully maintained, with lovely walking trails that add to the charm of the location. Overall, it’s a great place to unwind, with excellent service, but a few improvements in dining options and room freshness would make the experience even better.
