07/09/2026: Really great pub and eatery. Very warm welcome on entering The Tara from all members of staff. Very impressed by the decor too. Food was fantastic, I had chicken wings and a beef and Guinness pie. Portions were huge. Id recommend this place for either food and drinks.

18/08/2026: Brought my kids here not that long ago. servers were perfectly nice however seemed very understaffed. my food took a very long time and was cold by the time it got to our table. no fault of the girl working as she had many tables and seemed to be doing it alone. the food was still perfectly fine and we ate and thoroughly enjoyed.i also noticed that some of the higher ups seemed to be speaking quite shortly to the staff, which i find unacceptable. if you see this, please consider hiring more people or having more help in the dining room!

05/09/2026: The teach is famous in Carlow for consistently providing good service and meals with knowledgeable staff and skilled chefs. But the introduction of the specials board has shaken things up with new choices and delicious food. I had the ribeye steak with sauté mushrooms and onions, French fried onion in tempura batter, cherry tomatoes and a delicious Guinness and tarragon butter. The steak was mouth watering tender cooked perfectly and every month full was a joy. Thanks Teach we will be back.

05/09/2026: The service was absolutely amazing and epic. Friendly, fast, efficient... cannot complain one bit about the staff. My issue was with the food. I ordered wings as a main and the wings were overly dry and lacking in any flavour. The rest of the party ordered the beef lasagna and that was utterly brilliant. It was voiced garlic bread with cheese would have been a better side than the chips. We requested chips as the side to each meal. Chips were crisp on the outside and soft on the inside lovely!

30/07/2026: From the moment we first visited until the day we said "I do" our experience at the Stephouse Hotel was nothing short of exceptional. We chose it as the venue for our Wedding & it truly exceeded every expectation! All of the staff went above & beyond to make our day perfect, especially Benny,Becky,Sarah,Alan, Bridget & Lee.Every detail was handled with professionalism,warmth & genuine care which allowed us to relax & enjoy every moment with our family & friends.The hotel & gardens for our ceremony were stunning, the food outstanding and the service was flawless from start to finish. Our guests are still talking about how beautiful the hotel was,how delicious the meal was & how welcoming everyone made them feel. We couldnt have asked for a more magical setting to celebrate our special day. A huge thank you to the entire team and Cait & James for making our Wedding Day so unforgettable. We will always have wonderful memories of our special day here and we wouldnt hesitate to recommend the Stephouse to anyone looking for the perfect Wedding venue or a fantastic place to stay. 15/06/2026: Our group of 17 friends, travelling from different counties, chose The Step House in Borris, Co. Carlow as our meeting point for a night away together, and what a fantastic choice it turned out to be. From the moment we arrived, everything was first-class. We enjoyed a light lunch in the bar before taking a fascinating guided tour of Borris House, located directly opposite the hotel. The tour lasted around two hours and provided a wonderful insight into the rich history of the area. Afterwards, we spent some time exploring the charming village before returning to the hotel to relax and prepare for the evening. Dinner in the main restaurant was booked for 7pm, and it exceeded all expectations. The menu was excellent, the food was beautifully presented, and every dish was cooked to perfection. The staff were attentive, friendly, and professional throughout, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Following dinner, we enjoyed a nightcap in the bar before retiring to our rooms. The accommodation was comfortable, spotless, and ensured a great night's sleep. Breakfast the following morning was equally impressive. Afterwards, we took a lovely walk through the village to the viaduct, enjoying the beautiful surroundings before returning to the hotel for tea, coffee, and a final catch-up. Before headinghome, we all agreed that this would not be our last visit. In fact, we are already planning a return trip later in the year for a festive Christmas getaway. The Step House offers exceptional hospitality, outstanding food, comfortable accommodation, and a wonderful location. We couldn't recommend it highly enough and are already looking forward to our next stay.
