05/05/2026: The food is always just incredible here, both evening dining and Sunday lunch. Surprisingly reasonable prices. And their wine selection is wonderful - as are the hosts and staff. Just a really beautiful place for a special meal.

Knocked down a star because of the older manager berating staff behind the counter while they tried to do their jobs, owners need to give him the marching order ASAP, would visit again, hopefully when that individual isn't there.

26/04/2026: Attended the Lee wedding, honestly don't know where to start, from the moment we arrived we knew that this hotel was special. All the staff we encountered very friendly and helpful. Our room was cosy, clean and comfortable. The food was fabulous from the prewedding food to the actual wedding meal and breakfast the following morning, I honestly couldn't fault it all one bit. Loved the "things to do locally " at the back of the breakfast menu. Lovely idea. What I also enjoyed was that the wedding guests had basically taken over the hotel which made the wedding very personal. Honestly, we would not hesitate in coming back to stay there again.
25/04/2026: An exceptional hotel in a beautiful town . Very large and bright rooms, great breakfast and bar food, and really wonderful staff . In a sea of bland and impersonal hotels, Step House is a place that retains a true sense of hospitality - welcoming, personal and warm.
Thank you for making my parents' recent stay so special, for taking such care of my dad, and for the thoughtful gift for their 60th wedding anniversary !

12/04/2026: Lovely, quirky and spacious cafe/restaurant up a side street in Ballon. A feast for the eyes with the many photographs, clocks, words of wisdom and references to Alice in Wonderland. All day breakfast and lunch menus ‘to die for’! We were made to feel very welcome from the moment that we entered. Excellent service and quality of food…. we will definitely pay a return visit very soon.

12/04/2026: We didn’t stay at the hotel, only dined in the restaurant. Overall, the food was quite good—typical of Irish restaurants. The steak was excellent and the staff were very friendly.
There was a mistake with our order, though, and the pizza arrived much later. They apologized a lot for it, which we appreciated, and remained very kind throughout.
The wine wasn’t great and was quite expensive, but the steak was fantastic.
05/04/2026: Beautiful place, lovely food. I would recommend it for any party large or small.

01/05/2025: I originally had given this restaurant a 5 star review on the back of having been there a number of times. However, having recently returned, I found that this place has dropped a lot in quality and service. I believe it has changed hands/under new management and it would appear to have gone downhill since then. Such a pity, it was a great place to eat and family friendly.
11/04/2025: Unfortunately, food was just ok and that's me being "generous". Service felt like we were back in 90s. Atmosphere was like a nearly closing down place. Huge potential in the right hands,but definitely not into whomever runs it now. I'm not the person to complain and haven't said anything while settling the bill (which was 74 euro for 2 people and not even a "thank you" received). Won't be rushing again to eat here,for sure.

11/07/2025: Tuvimos una experiencia muy agradable aquí el miércoles 9 de julio. Nuestro camarero era un muchacho joven, muy amable y servicial, genial con nuestros niños, nos hizo sentir como en casa. La hamburguesa vegana era increíble, muy fresca y deliciosa ensalada en el pan vegano. Los niños pidieron espaguetis a la bolaña, porciones muy generosas. La tarta de queso horneada estaba increíble, los niños quedaron encantados con sus galletas y helado. Lo recomendaría sin duda y volveré por su carne asada.
11/07/2025: Estuvimos allí la semana pasada y la experiencia fue mucho mejor. El personal es muy amable. El pescado y las patatas fritas valen la pena y el rosbif se derrite en la boca. Conocimos al nuevo chef, que también es el gerente de alimentos y bebidas, nos informó nuestro mesero Cian. Quedamos realmente impresionados y volveremos.
