17/11/2025: €40 per person is a good price for the 3 courses and tea or coffee. Amazing choice of starters I had the goatsbridge smoked trout . The sirloin of beef 🥩 was the best I have ever tasted. The dessert trolley is amazing. Service is exceptional food is amazing 🤩 parking is free .

12/09/2025: We have been on holiday in the area for almost a week and this is by far the best meal we have had during our travels and we have had some great food. Absolutely delicious, if you haven’t tried the food here yet you must, if we were not going home tomorrow we would 💯 be back .

06/09/2025: Food is simply out of this world!! Would consider traveling here, staying in Keenan’s Hotel beside the restaurant for the night, eating at the Onion and heading home the following morning! Gorgeous location on the banks of the Shannon! Couldn’t recommend more highly!

04/11/2025: We often stop here on the way to the west of Ireland. Its a great halfway stop. Lovely food, cosy atmosphere. Staff always lovely. Their veg soup and brown bread is delicious 😋

27/10/2025: Called in this morning 9am while passing through the area, reception door wouldn't open, but the restaurant door was. I asked the staff if they were severing breakfast, one of the staff said "No" and something about been full, hard to understand the accent. She said I could get something to eat in the garage down the road, if i wanted to eat in a garage i wouldn't be asking are they seriving breakfast, don't see how they were full as the car park was half empty (5 cars) and there was no one in the restaurant at all, place looked dead. Went onto Stokestown and had a lovely Breakfast in the Percy French Hotel. Never again.

27/08/2025: Been here a few times over the years, it's a hit and miss, sometimes it's lovely and friendly staff and good food and sometimes staff haven't got the time for you and the food is OK.

03/10/2025: Tried out the Pepper Mill after a local recommendation. Found it clean, friendly staff and food was great. Coffee was nice too. Will be back.

27/09/2025: Great spot. Lovely staff, excellent food. Very good coffee. Very reasonably priced. Staff were so helpful.

19/10/2025: All good apart from the stupid lazy people who park directly outside on the road in a controlled do not park zone holding all the traffic up both ways because they can't walk more than ten metres whilst they waddle in to buy a box of cakes.

From the moment we walked in, she greeted us with a warm smile and made us feel so welcome. She was attentive without ever being overbearing, and she anticipated everything we needed before we even had to ask. Caitlin struck the perfect balance between professionalism and friendliness—her genuine kindness really stood out. She had great menu knowledge, gave excellent recommendations, and checked in at just the right times to make sure everything was perfect. The food was delicious, but the service Caitlin provided truly elevated the whole evening. Staff like her make all the difference, and I’ll definitely be returning thanks to the experience she created. Highly recommend both the restaurant and asking for Caitlin if you’re lucky enough to have her as your server!
