20/09/2024: Average, style over substance. The tartlet needed more salt. The woodpigeon was disappointing. I had only ever had it pink not as part of an apricot and walnut ballotine. It was overcooked? dry and didn't taste nice. The beef fillet was perfectly cooked but there wasn't enough beef cheek. The liquorice and rhubarb was delicious but I did think it would have been better if the rhubarb had been cooked a little more and was more tender. Initially the service was rushed.
15/09/2024: Very expensive but worth it if you have the money.
Woodpigeon as a starter was very rich in flavour and tastefully decorated.
The rib eye beef was melt in the mouth and had a delicious gravy along with a big Yorkshire pudding.
The chocolate souffle was also amazing, really warm and had caramel inside of it. Also they somehow made popcorn flavoured ice cream.
Would recommend.

30/09/2024: 5 of us ate breakfast here recently, had a mix of the full Irish and the avocado on sourdough. the food was amazing. I had the full Irish, perfect tasty breakfast, Some of the lads had the avocado which looked and I heard tasted amazing with lots of bacon. Well done Brownes...the 5 of us were delighted. Great staff.

30/09/2024: A short drive from Athlone and well worth it. Busy pub with varied dishes and blackboard specials. Maybe not as much seafood as I had expected but still something for everyone. The Fjord mussels were delicious though.
As I was driving I tried the 0% red wine but not a success. Will stick to soft drinks in the future.

Keep telling them but they obviously don't care. No consistency. Some evenings it is fab and others inedible. Pity...
13/10/2024: Service was very good and food was amazing love the bathroom very clean nice to go for a family dinner quick and so much atmosphere amazing vegetable soup ,garlic bread , steak ,hake ,chocolate brownie . You get rolls on your table when you arrive.Staff are kind and helpful

11/10/2024: We stopped by this bistro for lunch after driving down from Dublin and visiting Sean’s Bar. It was a solid meal—I had the warm prawn and chorizo salad, which was flavorful and filling. My friend had the bisque and cleaned his bowl.
The staff were friendly and quick to help with anything. The restaurant was clean, and the atmosphere was warm and inviting.
13/09/2024: Overrated and miserable portions - 3 scallops in a starter for €12.95 - pretentious and not good value for money - service cold and rushed

07/08/2024: What a fab place. Food was wonderful, we had a starter and main, and couldn't fit dessert too, as there was plenty of food.
Good service, nice atmosphere, friendly staff. Most definitely worth the awards they have received, and the reviews.

25/09/2024: Amazing quality food, service is very good also, staff very friendly. The only two things I would change there is the background music, for something more relaxed and classy, like instrumental classic music for example, and also some colour to the tables, like a center piece with flowers, even fake ones, to give some more visual appeal. These are just small details, but we will be back for sure, and very soon.

05/09/2024: Hard to say. Marked as temporary closed in Maps. Went to check for any notice about it reopening and there was nothing. Looks pretty shut up.
If they've shut down for a holiday without leaving any indication then it's on them really.
There's a very faded notice in the window with opening times - picture included for what it's worth.

02/11/2024: We popped in here for a small bite to eat after visiting Sean's bar. The place looks like a small cafe on the outside but is very homely inside. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We opted for two caesar salad with no chicken and one chowder. The salads were top class and very tasty the chowder was creamy with a super flavour.
While in there we had a look at the evening a la carte menu, it looks comprehensive.
An ideal evening would be a visit to Sean's bar with some food in the River View bistro and back into Sean's bar again.
Highly recommended. Yes we will be back.
