27/05/2025: We took a trip to Athlone to visit Thyme on a recommendation. Well worth it and we'll definitely be back. A lovely welcoming small dining room. Very friendly staff who are comfortable and confident speaking about the dishes. And what a meal. From start to finish it was beautifully presented but more importantly very very tasty. The halibut was fantastic. The sides amazing. And the price! They could easily charge more for that quality of food. What a treat. Thank you Thyme.

22/04/2025: Great place to go for lunch, food excellent. So sad to see it's now closed, definitely was the best around for lunch.

06/06/2025: Had brunch and dinner here on 5th June on our way to and from Tina Turner musical matinee show.Arrived early for brunch but we were accomodated no problem. As we were a group of 47 and limited timewise we all had delicious vegetable soup with a fabulos selection of fresh sandwiches.This was followed by tea/ coffee and biscuits. For dinner at 7p.m.we had a choice of roast beef, chicken and mushroom vol au vont or cod.All served with veg& potato or salad & chips.It was all piping hot and very tasty.This was followed by apple crumble or sherry trifle. Again service and food was excellent.

02/06/2025: We were a group of 16 ladies from Canada in need of a quick stop during our tour. The owner was so gracious, opening up a special area just for us. Service was quick and friendly, and the food was delicious with plenty of options. A wonderful spot—I’d happily bring a group here again!

20/05/2025: Incredibly courteous. We arrived about 7 pm. The staff checked with the kitchen to see if it was too late for meals. Returned offering us lasagna or stir fry. We got each. The food was delicious. The staff were very friendly

30/05/2025: Have not stayed here but can highly recommend the food. The staff are second to none with their help and friendliness..... Up date ..2 years on and still the staff here are exceptional with their service and friendliness. Called in bit early but were made feel so welcome. Well done to all staff from the reception right through to the restaurant ...lovely people.

21/05/2025: Stayed here for a single night. the hotel was busy, friendly, clean, and the service was decent. The beds were comfortable and clean. Water was piping hot. Hotel is a bit dated, we couldn't get a spot in the hotel car park either but all in all it was a great spot, good breakfast,.good drink amd friendly staff

02/06/2025: We stayed across the road from weird so we ate lunch and dinner here. Every meal was 10 out of 10. The steak was perfectly cooked, the chicken was beautiful, wings fab, sea food chowder amazing to the home baked bread and all the home made deserts were all delicious. Would highly recommend Weirs. The service was quick and all the staff so friendly. A gem in a small village.

11/06/2025: Quaint restaurant with great atmosphere and friendly tentative staff. The food was excellent, I had a chicken strip starter which was genuinely one of the best I’ve had. The steak was cooked correctly and was tender and full of flavour. I would highly recommend anyone to come and eat here, it was packed on a Wednesday!! Had food at the Glasson LakeHouse the night before and the food at The Villager was miles better and better value.

28/05/2025: Very poor food. The fish tasted like it had been cooked in stale oil and was greasy and hard. The peas had a strange taste and were quite unpleasant and the garlic mayonnaise or tartar sauce...not sure what it was because it just tasted cheap. The chips were fine in fairness, but I couldn't eat them because the acrid taste and the (somehow both) rock hard on top and soggy underneath texture of the fish had put me right off. My advice is don't go there. We were charged full price despite one meal being almost entirely untouched...maybe I should have complained...but I thought when the waitress asked me how the meal was and I said mmm it's just ok that they may have asked further....but no. Don't waste your money.

08/06/2025: It was my first time here and it was recommended to me by a local. There were about 3 or 4 specials on the menu board as you enter ..... I had decided on 1 of them, as I was standing in a small queue I decided last minute to try the chicken/cashew/rice option from the Asian menu. It was made fresh as I was allocated my table. You get your own cutlery/serviettes and as much water as you like. When the food arrived, it was steaming hot and IMO was a very generous portion with plenty of chicken & cashews. The restaurant is spotless, large, busy with generous seating arrangements. Toilet facilities are spacious & spotless. The were smiling uniformed staff everywhere, IMO it was a great experience, reasonably priced lovely food and a place that I highly recommend.

07/06/2025: We stopped by for breakfast and it was wonderful, a great choice and delicious breakfast, we had a browse in the shop and were very pleased with the service by all the staff who attended us. Highly recommended

05/05/2025: Myself and four biker friends stopped here for a bite to eat and something to wash it down with today. We sat outside beside the canal at the back of the bar / restaurant which turned out to be a fantastic outdoor space to just chill and take in the good weather. We ordered the two outdoor meals for €35 each which consisted of four 12" pizzas of your choice, four bags of fries, two trays of chicken wings of choice and two salads of choice to go with. Everything was freshly made and cooked. Have to say that all was fantastic. It was our first time here and would highly recommend it as a stopping point for some really good F & B. The staff were very friendly and very welcoming and could not do enough for us. Overall from a first visit point of view, we will visit again and we will highly recommend to others 👍🏻😉😁

13/06/2025: Have to give credit to this restaurant. We were a group celebrating a 90th birthday and could not fault any aspect of our visit. The food was delicious, really great menu that caters for everyone, staff were fantastic, could not do enough for us and a really good atmosphere. We have eaten here many times and it always lives up to our high expectations.Well worth a visit. We will be back. Thank you Michelle and staff for a great night and for helping us creat many great memories for our family.

16/02/2025: Went here on a Saturday evening, it was very busy. We were close to a table with 6/8. They were all talking very loud and I could hardly hear my companion. Having said that I would definitely return. It's Family run and so friendly, we were very well looked after. The food was lovely and tasty. My steak was perfect, the best ever. Highly recommend the Motte and Bailey.

28/05/2025: The Bailey pub and rooms in Athlone put the very Ritz Carlton to shame! The impeccable drinks, staff, banter, and grub are supreme to say the least. If you want a proper Irish experience in a tasty friendly pub, this is thee place. You must not miss the potato's skins ..divine! Plus, the whiskey and pints are the best in all of the Emerald Isle.... in my humble opinion. Do it! And tell our new friends Collin, Shayna, and O'Shea that we said HOWDY! Get you some. A +! ...... we are going back later too!

27/05/2025: Had a pretty good dinner had the hamburger. Printed room bed and breakfast on the website it makes it sound like breakfast is included for the price it wasn't. Only coffee but the best thing about it was they had construction underneath my room until past 10:00 p.m. and then thinking I'm getting complimentary breakfast for the price should have been included they had me wait until 11:00 because of problems with the kitchen to tell me that it's not included. One sign says opens at 10:00 a.m. one sign says 10:30 they're saying 11:00

02/05/2025: We had lunch here last week, I had the beef. It was definitely the nicest beef I have ever tasted. So tender and tasty. I have had other meals here in the past and the food is always fabulous. Desserts are really good also. I could not find fault with anything in The Shack! Staff are super efficient and very friendly. Would definitely recommend it.
