The best restaurantsof irish in Westmeath

07/07/2025: After a full weekend of tennis this was a great place to visit and relax and make plans for the next few weekends. It is not far from the tennis club either . Food was great, service was great and they have a good wine list.

13/06/2025: We dined at Thyme this evening (first time). The interior in beautiful shades of green is stunning and so inviting. We had the filet and the halibut dishes. The 4 courses were just perfect. Very creative in both presentation and the various tastes which complement each other. The service was excellent with very knowledgeable and friendly staff!!!

22/04/2025: Great place to go for lunch, food excellent. So sad to see it's now closed, definitely was the best around for lunch.

24/06/2025: A good night in Scanlons Pub for a charity event. The atmosphere was fun and friendly and service was good. Have to return to have a meal in the near future as the food looked and smelled excellent but they had stopped taking orders when we got there.

05/06/2025: I called in late last night as I was waiting for someone coming on a late bus to kinnegad. The owner agreed we could have toasted sandwiches. I was very impressed with his hospitality and will definitely come back again

26/06/2025: We stopped in for Sunday lunch. Beautiful food and wonderful service. The hotel has a carvery and separate restaurant. The staff were wonderful and friendly and service was excellent. Starters and main courses were delicious. A definite return trip planned.

13/06/2025: Have to give credit to this restaurant. We were a group celebrating a 90th birthday and could not fault any aspect of our visit. The food was delicious, really great menu that caters for everyone, staff were fantastic, could not do enough for us and a really good atmosphere. We have eaten here many times and it always lives up to our high expectations.Well worth a visit. We will be back. Thank you Michelle and staff for a great night and for helping us creat many great memories for our family.

16/02/2025: Went here on a Saturday evening, it was very busy. We were close to a table with 6/8. They were all talking very loud and I could hardly hear my companion. Having said that I would definitely return. It's Family run and so friendly, we were very well looked after. The food was lovely and tasty. My steak was perfect, the best ever. Highly recommend the Motte and Bailey.

01/07/2025: Very busy and service very slow. One kid at out table was really hungry. No errord made to accommodate her. Ie bring her food out first. It was grand for the occasion as a once off. I wouldn't go back.

29/06/2025: Looked great walking in and really busy. Food was average at best though which was disappointing considering the prices.

15/06/2025: First time at Left Bank Bistro. Had lunch here with the family. On the booking I had indicated we were celebrating a birthday but there was no effort made about that. We asked about gluten free options. One waitress told us spring rolls were gluten free but then when ordering another waiter said they were not and actually provided us with the allergen menu. The only gluten free starter was a salad. I was let down by the lack of coeliac friendly dishes on the menu. The restaurant gets quite loud when busy. There are no soft furnishings to absorb the sound, which I'd recommend adding cushions to chairs. We asked if one of the waiters could take a photo of the group and we felt very much like they couldn't get us out the door fast enough. Definitely lacking the personable and welcoming touch I'd expect from any restaurant. I'm unlikely to return soon due to my experience.

28/05/2025: The Bailey pub and rooms in Athlone put the very Ritz Carlton to shame! The impeccable drinks, staff, banter, and grub are supreme to say the least. If you want a proper Irish experience in a tasty friendly pub, this is thee place. You must not miss the potato's skins ..divine! Plus, the whiskey and pints are the best in all of the Emerald Isle.... in my humble opinion. Do it! And tell our new friends Collin, Shayna, and O'Shea that we said HOWDY! Get you some. A +! ...... we are going back later too!

27/05/2025: Had a pretty good dinner had the hamburger. Printed room bed and breakfast on the website it makes it sound like breakfast is included for the price it wasn't. Only coffee but the best thing about it was they had construction underneath my room until past 10:00 p.m. and then thinking I'm getting complimentary breakfast for the price should have been included they had me wait until 11:00 because of problems with the kitchen to tell me that it's not included. One sign says opens at 10:00 a.m. one sign says 10:30 they're saying 11:00

05/05/2025: Myself and four biker friends stopped here for a bite to eat and something to wash it down with today. We sat outside beside the canal at the back of the bar / restaurant which turned out to be a fantastic outdoor space to just chill and take in the good weather. We ordered the two outdoor meals for €35 each which consisted of four 12" pizzas of your choice, four bags of fries, two trays of chicken wings of choice and two salads of choice to go with. Everything was freshly made and cooked. Have to say that all was fantastic. It was our first time here and would highly recommend it as a stopping point for some really good F & B. The staff were very friendly and very welcoming and could not do enough for us. Overall from a first visit point of view, we will visit again and we will highly recommend to others 👍🏻😉😁

02/05/2025: We had lunch here last week, I had the beef. It was definitely the nicest beef I have ever tasted. So tender and tasty. I have had other meals here in the past and the food is always fabulous. Desserts are really good also. I could not find fault with anything in The Shack! Staff are super efficient and very friendly. Would definitely recommend it.
