21/07/2026: We normally stop off here to get supermacs, we order on lime in advance of the stop as it's an extremely busy spot. Very clean bathroom facilities. Good big shop with a petrol station has most things you would need.
14/07/2026: Great service facilities located between Mullingar and Edgeworthstown with loads of parking, which should be particularly convenient for large lorries/buses/HGV's etc.
Plenty of food options, the Super Macs has a drive though also.

29/07/2026: Loved the left bank, visiting Athlone last weekend and booked without knowing much about the restaurant. Blown away with the food and service. Will definitely visit again.
09/07/2026: There were more flies than patrons. My boyfriend and I were sat and the waitress took our order with an awful dismissive attitude. Another table of 4 came in after we ordered and received their food first. Waited an additional 30 minutes after our plates were cleared to receive the bill, and still had to ask and wait for the bill. Only 2 tables in the whole place. Food was mediocre at best. Service was just off the charts terrible. 4 waitresses all standing around.

19/07/2026: I am giving 1 star and thats for the staff, who were plesent and polite. The food took over 20mins to arrive. I ordered bbq chicken salad, thats not what i got. It was precooked chicken on willtered salad and bottled bbq sauce poured all over the top of it. My son ordered bbq chicken burger with chips. The chips were soggy and tasted like old oil and the burger was again precooked chicken in a bun with bbq sauce poured on top, it wasnt even a good bbq sauce. This place would make Mcdonalds look like fine dinning. The food was shitel and thats beening kind. DONT EAT HERE.

Old House Restaurant

08/05/2026: We were celebrating today. We choose Old House by an accident. I hope God gives me more accidents like that. Food? Absolutely divine. We had salmon and beef cheek. Salmon, was made to perfection well seasoned and lovely sides. Beef cheek was absolutely mouth watering. Delicious just delicious. For the dessert we had sticky toffee pudding(whoever loves sweet go for it blindly) and chocolate brownie both desserts served with ice cream on the side. Our waiter ( and I do apologise for not remembering the name- truly) was the most kind and cheery person. A true gem to the place. Well done. Will definitely come back and recommend. Good spot in Mullingar to eat, drink and relax!
Ps. Unfortunately I only have the picture of the pudding as everything was so good it disappeared faster than I could snap a shot!

06/01/2026: Unfortunately, Nanny Quinns has closed down now. We didn't book ahead of time but we will in future. That said they were very accommodating and took the pressure in their stride.Lovely old style pub serving great food and a great pint. The atmosphere was lovely and the service was second to none. Beside the canal so perfect for a drink on warmer days. I have passed it by for years but now that we are actually living nearby, we will definitely be frequent visitors.

25/04/2025: Absolute peach of a pub. Lovely people, lovely fresh local food. Reasonable prices. Only downer is that itās difficult to park. But worth trying!!
08/02/2025: Great food in a beautiful oldstyle pub, welcoming, friendly staff and locals and a blazing fire on a cold day.
The chowder was delicious as was the brown bread and the calamari and prawns were as good as I have ever had.

27/07/2025: Below average experience. The food is ok. Portion size is absolutely terrible. Been here a few times but the last time was the final straw.
Came here one day when it was busy, was just popping in with 3 friends to get a pint and be ok our way. There was a few people looking for seats so I approached the bar and asked the guy (mid 40ās?) about just sitting at the bar for a pint and he was absolutely foul mannered.
He said āwhy donāt you join the queue like everyone else trying to get a table in hereā
I love locally and this bar/restaurant is quite close to me, many occasions I choose to go elsewhere for food and drinks. In this day and age that behaviour is unacceptable
That episode, along with the overpriced menu and small food portion sizes and that barmanās behaviour ultimately made my decision on the palace.
Couple weeks later āthe shackā came up in conversation with different friends suggesting places to eat; I shut it down. Funnily enough one of the people in the group said that they ordered food weeks earlier and the same guy was intimidating to her because she didnāt eat her food and was pushing for answers, she was hungover and explained nothing was wrong with it.
Wonāt be returning, and Iāll be telling others the same story.
18/07/2025: Great atmosphere, delicious food, great drinks, and friendly personable service. Wife and I visited Athlone from the UK and were so glad we came here for lunch, highly recommend.
