The best restaurants in Castlebar legal

05/09/2025: Really nice…. Dark Chocolate and raspberry cake for dessert was insanely good. Feahterblade excellent. Pork good. Coffee could do with being warmer.

01/09/2025: I found the food disappointing. I expected more for the price. The amuse-bouche was served with a cloche and smoke, lots of smoke around a crisp with a tasteless cheese filling. The starter was mussels and fish, the sauces didn't match, and the red caviar didn't make it any better. The main course was Irish beef; the meat was good, but the sauce tasted sour and of nothing else. The vegetables were completely unseasoned and not well presented; for example, the carrots were unpeeled. The service was okay. I just felt like it was missing that certain something. The restaurant also looked a bit dingy, with electrical wires in the corner that could have been hidden. It was more like a pub, as it was very loud. They probably need better insulation. All in all, there are a few things that could be improved.

05/06/2025: First time to the Dining Room since the restaurant changed hands in recent years. We were on an overnight stay in Castlebar, and having read some great reviews (most notably The Irish Times), I was looking forward to dining there. Not the usual A La Carte menu on offer, and instead there's two set four-course menus to choose from.... we opted for menu offering good selection of fish, poultry and vegetarian dishes. We were warmly greeted by the restaurant manager Shirley and shown to our table. The restaurant was busy for a bank holiday Saturday night and there was a good atmosphere with reasonable sound levels (nothing worse than restaurant full of loud patrons and you can't hear yourself think literally!) Prompt service at the outset - with starters and mains ordered, along with a bottle of the house red (three to choose from). Overall the wine and drinks menu is varied and very reasonably priced. Both of our starters and main courses were - in a word - 'sublime' and we looked forward to tasting their desserts. However, that's where it all turned sour (for want of a better word) because we waited the best part of over 30 minutes to see a dessert menu. It felt like once the dishes for main courses were removed, they forgot we there, as other patrons came and went, and service seemed to be on the ball (many of them appeared to be local diners and were friendly with the manager and staff). When we finally were given a dessert menu, it then took some more time to be served. Overall, I enjoyed my dessert but alas my sister found her dish rather bland and tasteless.....plus it's unacceptable to have to wait nearly 40 mins or more to sample the final course of the evening. Sadly, we didn't think the Dining Room was worthy of a service tip.... nor was our experience worthy of five stars. Not sure if I would go back.

25/05/2025: Great food, great service, lovely atmosphere. The menu maybe limited, but the quality was extraordinary. The staff were not very knowledgeable, but also very helpful and friendly.

19/08/2025: Lovely food, great service and lots of menu choices. We had burgers, chicken tenders quessidias and salads. Lots of eastern Mediterranean choices also. Will definitely return

17/08/2025: Tasty Mediterranean cuisine. Plenty of choice. Fast service. Sufficient quantities. Very welcoming waitress. Friendly chef who speaks French (among other things). Fair prices.

04/08/2025: Make a reservation for this restaurant. Excellent choice on the menu, great staff, great atmosphere and very reasonably priced. Service is swift and efficient. Staff are very pleasant.

03/08/2025: Al Muretto is a strange name, Google translating as "At the Wall"? I am sure there is a story there. But this place certainly doesn't hit the wall. This place is very good, serving some good Italian comfort food. Another strange thing was the opening times, 4-10 all week, except on Sunday, where it's all day. We visited on Sunday and really enjoyed ourselves. But we were disappointed to visit a few days later, for seconds, and find it closed. It's hard running a restaurant in Ireland, so I understand, just sad there is no lunchtime opening during the week. I would go right now if I could. One of the best ways to judge an Italian restaurant is the spaghetti Bolognese, a simple dish but very hard to make well. I think they do an assassin spaghetti type Bolognese. Hubby ordered the Spaghetti Bolognese and really enjoyed it. The only criticism I have is that the Bolognese is offered with Penne or Spaghetti. Personally I am not into either, I love the soft texture of tagliatelle and would have preferred that option. Also the sauce was mixed with Parmesan, which was nice, but perhaps too much as it was too cheesy. Wifey tried something more exotic. Wifey tried the Risotto Allo Scoglio, a seafood risotto. Wifey loved this, and still raves about it. I too liked it, but seafood is not my go-to. But Hubby was impressed as it all cooked to perfection, some of the softest calamari I have ever eaten. Honestly there were so many other dishes we would go back for. Things I would love to try, the calzone, chicken and mushroom penne and risottos, the lasagna, the Veal scallops... Every time I look at the menu there is more I want. And the desserts are great too. Wifey went with an orange cheesecake, and while she enjoyed it. It wasn't for hubby, I didn't think it worked at all. Cheesecake should only be lemon... Maybe rum and raisin only. But Hubby had the tiramisu and it was divine, the mascarpone was so moreish. The only down side was I almost choked on the cocoa dust, you have been warned. Hubby and Wifey would recommend, and would go again and again. What makes this place really good for Families is the range of adult and children's dishes. On the table next to us was a family of three, the young boy ordered a pizza, and by God it was bigger than his head. He only finished half, I hope he had it the next morning for breakfast champions, before school. On a separate visit. I had the Calzone, often described as a Pizza in a Cornish pasty. Sadly this was not good. The main flaw with this is that they used the shredded pack pasta, which doesn't melt. So when it was served to me all the mozzarella was still cool, and the Calzone was not really hot to begin with. A disappointing dish and I would not recommend it.... However I must say this is a once off and would highly recommend every other dish here.

24/07/2025: The food is soo good!! The portions are great also! Burgers are the best!!!

27/08/2025: They take orders by phone and you can come there and order takeaway. They cook quickly, I liked everything.

10/08/2025: Got two pizza today, they were really fresh and tasty and really quick, and excellent service

01/08/2025: Grand endroit, pas loin du centre ville. Des assiettes copieuses et bonnes, moins chers que d'autres. Le breakfast est très bon, avec option vegan. Venir avant 12h. Il y avait de place, pas besoin de réserver. Service sympathique

31/07/2025: Fantastic bar. The owner and the customers made us so welcome. My wife wanted crisps, but unfortunately they didn’t sell them. However, the owner said the shop in the alley sell them. We didn’t bother going, but the next minute the owner appeared with a bag of crisps, which he got from the shop. A must visit for anyone staying in Castlebar.

09/09/2025: Make sure your hungry!!! If you want to feel that your money is genuinely appreciated by a place that has a real passion for the food that they put on your plate, combined with a quality that is rarely found nowadays then this is the spot. This isnt your normal pre-made, fired into the freezer to be heated in a microwave gods when usual takeaway. This is the "we care about our food and appreciate your business by giving you value and quality for your money. Freshly made food the way it should be with beyond generous portions mixed with REAL homemade taste for alot less than you will pay in your branded takeaways and be hungry an hour later. Real food, real portions and quality. Their chicken Goujon box is next level

28/08/2025: Lovely burgers & chips. Good portion of chips & I got a lovely coffee instead of coke. My friend had the chicken breast burger & said it was lovely. It's a busy takeaway.

11/08/2025: My self and my two friends stopped in here not knowing where to expect. The food was stunning and the fresh orange juice I had was like no other. Top class service

10/08/2025: Perfect location to castlebar with lots to do around. Staff couldn’t be nicer. Room was great, just found it a bit hot as the duvets were thicker than I expected. Room service was great!

08/08/2025: The hotel has a pleasant ambiance and employs only friendly and professional staff. The food is decent, but nothing exceptional. The rooms are spacious and offer acceptable comfort. However, some areas lack cleanliness. It's also important to note that the hotel's four-star rating isn't comparable to a German, Austrian, or French four-star hotel. In my opinion, appearances are a bit deceiving, but it's fine for a week, as long as you only stay in the hotel in the mornings and evenings.

09/09/2025: Quiet afternoon popped in for a quick bite to eat for lunch. Bar lady was so nice and welcoming. We will defo be back. 100% home cooked food. Simple menu but just what we wanted. Homemade veg soup and brown bread… so fresh Chicken goujons wrap with sweet chilli. Amazing value and literally 10 mins waiting.

24/05/2025: A must stop if in Mayo. Stopped here yesterday after our trip up from Kilkenny. One of the best pizza's I've ever had .

18/06/2025: Great service. Great atmosphere. A good selection of craft beers and a selection of vegan meals and desserts. Recommended.

08/06/2025: Fabulous meal. When I booked I never thought about specifying a low table for my 89 year-old dad and after some quick table rearranging, the floor manager got us properly settled. Booking lesson learned! Excellent choice for us all including a vegan and vegetarian. Observant but not intrusive wait staff and a very good non alcoholic drinks option. Fully recommend.
