The best restaurants in Monaghan

24/07/2025: We had a wonderful anniversary dinner. The staff made our evening really special. The food was really good and we had a lovely evening, The restaurant gave us a special decorated plate to go home with that had been decorated with ice-cream and candles. They were all lovely. I cannot rate this establishment highly enough.

05/07/2025: This place is brilliant. We were up filming in the locality and ate here both nights. They found us a table at a time that suited us (not them) the second night even though they were fully booked out. Can’t praise the staff highly enough. Probably one of the best services I have ever had. Attentive funny engaging but not over intrusive. I don’t write any / many reviews but they do deserve it.

25/07/2025: My mother and I stayed in the Castle the first night and it was amazing. Bathroom was huge, room was lovely, service was the best I've ever had. Truly welcoming and hardworking staff. The breakfast was delicious and had a large variety of hot dishes and continental choices. After that, we stayed the next 2 nights in the lodge. Room was lovely and clean, bathroom was quite luxurious, and the restaurants had delicious food and a large variety of drinks and cocktails, even mocktails. The castle grounds were lovely and very well maintained and I had even gotten to see a Hummingbird Hawkmoth, which is apparently very rare, in the lodge garden. Overall had an amazing stay, service was top tier, rooms clean and perfectly maintained, and staff were very friendly and helpful with any and all questions. Would totally visit again and highly recommend.

18/07/2025: Very friendly and welcoming staff. The food was excellent and very reasonable too. Will definitely stop here again. Highly recommended.

07/06/2025: I’ve been to a lot of coffee shops in the area and this place is the pick of them all, friendly hard working staff and even though you’re a stranger they engage with you like they know you. I love their Instagram clips as well, very funny. The only very small issue I would have is the condiments are at the door where it can be extremely active due to how busy it is and you get in the way of the flow of traffic. This does not take away from the place it’s a clear 10/10 just something I find personally. 😁

30/06/2025: walked in and had a very nice meal - burger with chips, and a desert. good quality meat, great portion. staff were attentive. clean, tidy, and postivie place. would definitely go again!

09/06/2025: Stopped to get a small bite on our journey home. Very pleasantly surprised. The food was so incredibly delicious. We had a BLT and a Club sandwiches. The service was friendly and excellent. Highly recommend.

30/06/2025: Stayed in the Creighton Hotel while attending a wedding in Monaghan, and it was genuinely excellent. The rooms were immaculate, and the decor was beautiful. The staff were also all just brilliant, very patient, amd couldn't have done enough for us. I'd highly recommend it.

30/05/2025: We had my Moms 80th birthday Easter Saturday for 200 guests…the ballroom looked fabulous, the food was delicious and plentiful and a fantastic night was had by all especially the birthday girl! And the service was excellent. The next day clones had 22,000+ people in town for the Monaghan v donegal game and we had Easter Sunday dinner booked for 70 people. I can’t express how fantastic the day was….we had the dining room to ourselves, again the food and service was excellent and we were well taken care of. Thank you Patrick, Edel and staff for a fantastic weekend. Ann, Jason, Samantha & Allison x Your never alone when your a clone!!

15/06/2025: What can I say except... Perfect! The meal was outstanding. Genuinely, embellished, no holds barred, honest and truthfully amazing food. The taste, the spice, the quality of ingredients... basically everything was incredible. The staff are the best. There when you need them, out of sight when you want to enjoy the meal without them. Knowledgeable, polite, and very helpful. I could not rate their entire team any higher. Finally, the setting is just beautiful. A tasteful, non-intrusive decor that welcomes and relaxes. Individual booths through smart glass dividers. Plenty of space. Airy and cool. This is a really great spot to relax and enjoy your meal. All in all, it's a ten out of ten. I recommend Eastern Balti House with gusto and enthusiasm. If you are in Monaghan you cannot go wrong and would be missing out not to stop in for the best Indian Meal you've had in Ireland. Incredible.

09/06/2025: My mother and I had gone 6 days prior traveling in Northern Ireland with not a single good meal. We stumbled upon Eastern Balti while staying in Monaghan and couldn’t have been happier. The food was delicious, restaurant was extremely clean and the service was flawless. Thank you for the great meal and service!

22/07/2025: Stayed in this Bed and breakfast,was very nice, lovely relaxing lounge, staff very warm and welcoming, But Ann that cooked my breakfast was the best, great cook, lovely lady, will be back ,

28/03/2025: The food is so delicious! Do yourself a favor and eat here! The rooms where very nice, bed was comfortable, and bathrooms were great! The service was outstanding! You really feel like a part of the family.

26/07/2025: Just went in today for their coffee! Its just a really nice comforting place while I am here on work, and the part time girl who works there is amazing, telling me cool things about the castle- this place is worth a visit- and there’s little bits you can pickup for your air bnb Joe

26/06/2025: This is the cutest, most perfect cafe! The service is lovely, the food was delicious, and there’s a bunch of amazing stuff to go as well. They even have ice cream. We sat outside and the view was beautiful. Would come here all the time if I was a local!

13/07/2025: We parked in the shopping car park and as soon as we walked out we spotted this coffee shop . We had the most delicious BLTs and iced coffees, the food and service was wonderful , thank you Barbara !

21/05/2025: I went here almost every week over the past 7 months. The cafe never disappointed me. The staff is very nice. Definitely a must-go in Monaghan! (I recommend the BLT Sandwich)

25/05/2025: We had such a lovely experience at The Old Coach Inn in Castleblayney. Irish hospitality is renowned, but Raymond and his team really take it to the next level. From the moment we arrived, they made us feel so welcome. We got into town a bit earlier than expected and had some time to fill before checking into our accommodation. No problem at all—Raymond invited us to relax and enjoy a leisurely Sunday lunch, and what a lunch it was! Delicious food, a warm and lively atmosphere, and a real sense of community. Families were celebrating their children’s First Communion and it was just lovely to witness—The Old Coach Inn clearly plays a big part in local life. Raymond even went out of his way to help us get to our accommodation, which was such a kind and unexpected gesture. We enjoyed it so much we came back the next day for an evening meal, which was just as impressive. The menu had something for everyone, and the staff were so friendly and attentive. Our only regret? Not having time to return for breakfast and complete the trio! If you're in or near Castleblayney, don’t miss this place. A warm welcome, great food, and a real local gem.

07/06/2025: Went for lunch with my 97 year old mum and my sister . It certainly is a 5 star restaurant with excellent food, and amazing staff. If you haven’t been you need to check it out ❤️

24/05/2025: I have eaten in this restaurant several times when I visit from London. Sadly the quality of the food is very poor.? Has the chef changed? I had chicken fillet burger. The batter was dark brown and rock hard. The chips are frozen and there was a tasteless limp salad on the side. Very disappointing.
