The best restaurants in Athlone

17/08/2025: I can’t say how much we enjoyed this place. The service was friendly as well as the patrons. A must visit.

12/08/2025: We came here for my sister's hen after messaging back and forth with Pat over Instagram. Pat greeted us on arrival and showed us to the reserved area. We stayed for a few cocktails and shots before heading to a late bar. Many of the girls commented that this was their favourite part of the hen night. Pat was very accommodating and there was a great atmosphere in the pub. Would highly recommend to anyone looking to organize a hen party in the area.

10/09/2025: Very pleased with the food at McDonald's! Everything was fresh and tasty - crispy French fries, not oversalted, juicy and well-assembled burgers. I especially liked the Chickenburger - tender chicken fillet, tasty sauce and fresh vegetables. The drinks were cold, the desserts were, as always, top-notch. It's nice that the taste is familiar and consistent - you always know what you're getting. A great place for a quick and tasty snack

10/09/2025: I recently visited a McDonald's location, and overall, I had a great experience. The service was fast and efficient, and the staff were friendly and polite. The food was hot and fresh — I ordered a Big Mac, fries, and a Coke, and everything tasted just the way I expected. The restaurant was clean and well-maintained, with plenty of seating available. I also liked that they had self-service kiosks, which made ordering very convenient. Of course, McDonald’s isn’t fine dining, but for a quick meal at an affordable price, it’s always a reliable choice.

19/08/2025: I don't recommend it. They charged us 15 euros for each pizza, and they're the same quality as kebab shops in Spain; they cost at most 5 euros. They denied us free water—that's never happened to us in Ireland. We then asked for a bottle of water and were charged 6 euros for it. I would recommend they improve in every way for the sake of their business.

19/08/2025: The pizzas aren't good enough for the price. You can't taste the ingredients and they're oily, so it's not worth it. We asked for tap water and were told they didn't have any (which I think is a bit odd). We asked for bottled water and it cost us €6 a bottle. I don't recommend this place.

07/09/2025: Staff are lovely people went with my partner and 3 kids all kids had chips and chicken which was fine small bit over cooked but no harm they were content with it but where I have the issues are had a combo meal and the fajitas all of it was dry and seemed to be microwaved or heated up just was not up to par the staff were great people not there fault at all

07/09/2025: Overall, everything was good. The food was tasty. It just needed a good clean; the tables were sticky, as was the floor. Despite that, the food was tasty. Lots of people.

15/09/2025: Great location, attentive staff, comfortable room, lovely pool. I have stayed here many times and it always meets expectations.

14/09/2025: Rooms are dated, so parking lot was packed when we arrived due to a wedding. Worked for a one night stop but could use some renovation work

20/07/2025: Decent Asian food in the heart of Athlone with a stunning ambience and great service. If you’re looking for a place to impress your date this is the place to be! My Recommendation: Prawn Crackers & Fried Dumplings :)

09/07/2025: I drove to Athlone from Co Cork for the night for work, workshop the next day. I Spent an hour online looking for something to eat. Couldn’t make my mind up, so my husband suggested Chinese. So glad I came to this place. The won ton noddle soup and sweet and sour pork with rice was excellent, fresh and full of flavour the best I’ve had since I left New Zealand 2 years ago. Service was on point and welcoming. Good vibes all around. Kia Ora!

22/07/2025: Lovely spot in the middle of the town for a coffee pick me up and a slice of cake or bun. It’s v busy but had quite a lot of seating. My son loves the Cornish pasties which make for a lovely breakfast or lunch on the campsite. Coffee is good

22/07/2025: Expérience agréable pour un déjeuner à 6. De bon sandwiches, bien que le pain mériterait de gagner en qualité, et de très bonnes pâtisseries. Beaucoup de choix, le tout pour un prix correct.

23/07/2025: We tried the Spicy Cajun Melt here (two of them!) and really enjoyed it. The sandwich was flavorful, filling, and the ranch dip on the side was delicious. The only thing I’m unsure about is the bread — it tasted good but felt a bit too thick. A slightly thinner and wider slice might suit the filling better. The staff were super friendly and welcoming, which made the experience even better. We’ll definitely come back again!

23/08/2025: Barman told us to leave just after charging us for drinks. We had paid for the drinks and in my opinion were ripped off. We then asked to speak with the manager and were refused and told get out of the pub in an aggressive way with security enforcement. Our Irish friend was sold a drink and allowed to drink it. We then asked multiple times to speak with management outside of the bar but nobody responded. The security said that the manager thought we were drunk but he didn’t believe that. I feel we were discriminated against just because of our ethnicity and will be seeking legal advice with respect to this. There was no other reason why they would have asked us to leave as we were behaving normally and only had two drinks prior to arriving at this bar. I will avoid this establishment in future.

11/08/2025: I Hope the management sees this, I order the duck very often. It is the most delicious in town but my friends can you please take more effort to remove the bones please

28/07/2025: My first time ordering of them and last I should have just thrown my money in the bin never ever had an spice back so full of salt that my kids can’t even eat it and neither cud I and the customer service is just horrible how should I bring full boxes back if we literally told them it’s salty did we smell it’s salty🙄never again absolute disgrace

21/08/2025: To all the staff in Maisie’s, from the door staff to the bar staff to the glass collectors and cleaners, you made my entire hen weekend an absolute blast. From the Friday night dancing , Saturday day activities upstairs and into Saturday night dancing , you made us feel so welcome. As a hen party you tend to be watching yourselves and trying to separate as a lot of places don’t like seeing a bunch of women coming(I get it) however ye are different… we got waved at and welcomed from the second we got over that bridge! You guys are absolute amazing. Ye are number 1 in Athlone by a country mile and I’ll be recommending this place to everyone and their nana!!!! And also - whoever that Dj was that ye had Friday 15th and Saturday 16th - he’s an absolute superstar on the decks! I can’t wait to come back!! From the Galway Hen ❤️

17/06/2025: Hi there I have seen your question regarding The Venue and I just wanted to say that I have attended the concert of "The year that grunge broke " previously at the Venue in Athlone town . I attended the concert with friends on the night and the concert lasted two hours.

10/08/2025: We have ordered a paw patrol cake for our sons 2nd birthday online and it was amazing. It looked exactly like the reference picture and it tasted really nice. Since they closed the office in Tullamore we had to pick up the cake from their shop in Athlone. We got the smallest square cake and it was still huge and quite heavy. It was a chocolate sponge and chocolate cream cake. It wasnt too sweet or tasteless. I wish there is an option to add forest fruits, sour cherries or other fruits. It would elevate the cake so much. Will definitely going to order a cake there again.

28/01/2025: Wonderful hotel with AMAZING staff. A group of us had a wonderful stay in The Price of Wales to celebrate mid-term and meeting up after covid. We had a beautiful lunch with wonderful service from an amazing lady, we had such much fun and laughs over lunch. Later, we had a beautiful evening meal in the bar followed by cocktails. The young man working the night shift warmly welcomed us back after a few hours hanging out in the local bars. He was so friendly and helpful despite the late hour. Rooms were spotlessly clean. The shower and coffee machine were both brand new. Would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a central location,free parking, amazing staff. We will return. Thank you all Monica & Co

22/12/2024: We went to the Prince of Wales Hotel in downtown Niagara-On-The-Lake specifically for High Tea. We have been to many high teas in different towns and cities. The one here has to be the absolute worst!!!The smoked salmon sandwiches (not a traditional high tea sandwich) were served on stale white bread!! Actually, all the breads were not fresh, including the egg-filled croissants. The scones were dry and tasteless. I discovered a dark hair in mine so I sent it back. Apologies were given but it didn't reflect any changes to our bill, which was $55/per person. When my niece made the reservation she said that 2 of us were celebrating our birthdays. Birthday wishes were not mentioned by the server. Nothing. Shame on Prince of Wales Hotel for serving inferior high tea at a very high price.
