The best restaurants in Athlone

12/04/2025: Very sad to see a business going downhill like this after changing management. Bathrooms with no toilet paper, no hand roll and literally buckets full of pee... Not a nice odor. The place was once a vibrant spot always with costumers inside, now it's an empty shell of it's former glory days and I think it's easy to see why! Once you look at the state of the bathroom you can imagine the rest! At the moment the only good thing, is the food, and the kitchen is outsourced from a different company called "The Hungry Crowd".

17/03/2025: I booked Maisie’s for a Hen brunch. I had to contact them multiple times to make the booking as no one was replying to my emails. When we arrived the venue was freezing cold, the mop bucket was out and there was no area for us to sit. We were a booking of 25 people and they gave us two very low tables to squeeze around. Despite booking 2 months in advance they were incredibly unprepared. I went to ask the managers what could be done but they spoke to eachother about some options and eventually I walked away because they were no help and our group was standing around waiting. We had no choice but to split up and sit separately. No manager came to speak to us or check on us but the chef did. We couldn’t fault the food it was delicious (although there were a few mistakes which we think was made by the waitress when she took the order). I didn’t think it was right to complain to her as she had done a great job with the food. We ended up leaving straight after eating as there was no atmosphere, the place was freezing cold and we were split up across the room. Although it was a poor start to a hen we moved to The Snug Bar down the road and they were more than accommodating.

31/12/2024: A few minutes drive outside the town ,but also on the A2,A3 bus route 10 mins journey ,had a wonderful and relaxing weekend away ,great value and very clean and spacious rooms .with a very modern bathroom.

22/12/2024: I had a great stay at this hotel a while back where I was well and truly looked after by a staff member named Fiona Brennan whom I'm not sure works in the springs anymore but regardless Fiona made the experience so much more enjoyable and welcoming .

13/05/2025: Le Bailey Bar & Lounge est un pub très bien situé, idéal pour une sortie entre amis ou en couple. L’ambiance y est chaleureuse et conviviale, avec un décor soigné qui invite à la détente. Le choix de bières est impressionnant, allant des classiques aux découvertes locales, parfait pour les amateurs comme les connaisseurs. Côté nourriture, les plats sont savoureux, bien présentés et servis chauds. Le menu propose une belle variété qui plaira à tous les goûts. Le service est rapide, courtois et attentionné. Une excellente adresse à découvrir et à recommander sans hésitation.

13/05/2025: The Bailey Bar & Lounge is a very well-located pub, ideal for a night out with friends or as a couple. The atmosphere is warm and friendly, with a tasteful decor that invites relaxation. The selection of beers is impressive, ranging from classics to local discoveries, perfect for amateurs and connoisseurs alike. As for the food, the dishes are tasty, well-presented, and served hot. The menu offers a nice variety that will please all tastes. The service is fast, courteous, and attentive. An excellent place to discover and recommend without hesitation.

07/05/2025: Always sceptical with a food chain but omg, it was ideal. Don't expect fine dining, expect good fast food that tastes...exceptional. we were delighted to sneak in for a guilty pleasure. Lol Staff were efficient and friendly too. Well done guys...

16/02/2025: I was wrong, I had selected another city on the click and collect, they managed to make my order for me without having to pay me again. The place is clean and super classy. The lovely staff. And then the food was excellent, the pulled pork excellent and the pistachio cookie I recommend 10000x

20/04/2025: It looked inviting from the outside, but as soon as I entered inside, the sense of approachability diminished when a regular started to act erratic and passive-aggressive with me for no apparent reason; the locals were loud and vulgar; the only positive aspect of the pub was the door leading out. Avoid this cesspool.

22/12/2024: It's one of my favorite pubs in Athlone. I love an interior here and how the stuff are friendly. Also, it's a comfortable and good place to spend some evening winter weekend with a fireplace.

02/03/2025: I’ve been going to Il Basilico for years - it is by far the best pizza in Ireland! The ingredients are so fresh and the pizza is always 10/10. Also the chips are proper chips, not frozen ones like most of the other pizza places! The staff are always lovely too and the service is so fast! I will continue to travel here as it really is such an amazing pizza!! Highly recommend!

28/04/2025: Food is halal but please ask for yourself they don’t accept card soo please have cash in hand. Food was lovely for the price and portion is good the staff is good atmosphere was really nice the whole place was really busy but food came on time definitely coming back again as their food was fresh and worth the money🥰👍i ordered chicken kabab and lamb kabab🤤you can ask for tap water also there which i did the whole experience was worth it 👍

06/05/2025: Stopped off during a break away for some drinks..they were just opening up on a fantastic sunny day.. barman quickly arranged outdoor seating so we could enjoy our drinks outside... Great staff

24/04/2025: You can have a pizza and a pint for 15€, actually the only pub around who serves food ! We choose it for this fact and we didn’t regret it, even if the ambiance it’s not the same as his neighboor

05/05/2025: Service et vue très agréable ! En revanche le rapport qualité prix n’est pas au rendez-vous, le saumon était beaucoup trop cuit.

23/04/2025: Fantastic food. The tandoori lamb rump was amazing!!! Would recommend to come here. The customer service was outstanding too.

24/12/2024: got charged 50 euro for 4 shots.. seems a bit outrageous for a very boring nightclub. Staff will their hardest to rip you off even though they make no extra money for it. This place ruins night life for athlone and I hope they can improve in any possible being the only nightclub.

11/10/2024: Nice traditional style dinner reasonable priced. The decor probably needs a bit of work but isn't that important if food is good.
