The best restaurants in Athlone

22/06/2026: Popped in with the family for food, after a recommendation from friends, we have fussy eaters, and my god it did not disappoint. The service was top notch, really friendly staff, and quick service. The food was gorgeous 🥰 really generous portions for both adults and kids., and so reasonable! Highly recommend the Athlone to the bone wings delicious! Cocktail menu is a bonus! Definitely will be back.

31/05/2026: Had an absolutey amazing experience on my first visit to Maisies today with my son because he recommended it. From top to bottom, the food, the staff, the drinks, the atmosphere and most importantly the customer service was top quality with a smile. It's a very welcoming place as the manager deserves enormous credit for how he greets people and his hands on approach will surely make Maisies thrive. Would definitely recommend to anybody reading, well done!

20/07/2026: Absolutely loved this place! The food was delicious, and the staff were incredibly kind and friendly. They understood exactly what vegan meant and were really helpful in guiding us through the menu and choosing the vegan options. Everything we had was amazing and we felt very welcome. A perfect experience from start to finish. Thank you so much!

21/08/2026: A very cozy, old-fashioned pub, with a street and indoor, enclosed courtyard terrace, where you can sometimes catch a pre-music program in the evening. I didn't pay attention to whether they serve food. We stopped in several times to quench our thirst for a beer, because it was quite warm. They also make all kinds of beautiful cocktails. Yes, the courtyard is well protected from the weather, if you still want some fresh air. The whole place is quite cramped, so I don't know how many people can fit in, but judging by how big the bar is and that there were only 3 people working there, I think they can easily accommodate at least a large busload of guests at once, but don't panic, because there are 2 other great pubs next door, and you can find a 4th one about 100 m away by the castle or bastion.

26/07/2026: Nice atmosphere and pint, pizza 🍕 was lovely and get some chips barman said they are really nice and they were.

14/08/2026: Two of us stopped for dinner here for the second time. The menu is big and you'll definitely find something to eat. The food was average; the T-bone steak wasn't as good as expected. I asked to replace the fries with rice, but they said they couldn't—rice had to be an extra order, which makes no sense to me. But overall, it's not bad. Thanks.

09/08/2026: Actually can't fault this place we were out for the day in athlone and for once I got to pick the spot and they certainly didn't disappoint💪😁 The food was fab, no complaints, food was hot, fresh and so enjoyable and you get great food for the great price. A book of a menu which was ideal for us because each one of use likes different types of food Everyone was happy. All plates empty. To say the service made the place is an understatement, plenty of time to look true the menu but to also get ourself settled, had a baby with us. But you weren't waiting for them to come to you. Our serve, never caught her name which was a shame, was such a lovely girl. Asked her to double check for us about an allergy and no issue, went off into the kitchen and out she came and continued taking our order and another question came up and she had no issue, she just took it all in her stride. She was so polite, well able for the banter and well mannered. I know customer services can be tough. I just have to add that once our order went into the kitchen, a kitchen member came our to double check again over the allergies and because of this others would find it irritating but it made us feel heard and safe in what we were about to eat. Payment is by cash only but to be honest we didn't mind this because we did have cash on us plus there is a sign that says it when you enter into the restaurant and there's an atm across the road so for everything else you are getting the food, the price and the laughter I wouldn't consider this a fault. There is changing facilities for any kids in the ladies bathrooms but like that they are the middle of renovating the bathrooms so himself was with me and they didn't mind this neither. We will be back for sure. Thank you to our serve on Friday just.

01/08/2026: Expensive spot , don't know who trains the staff, but years ago when I was there years ago they were unfriendly and years later new staff still unfriendly........😒

08/06/2026: My 3 star rating is nothing against the hotel per se. The staff in the restaurant were excellent, menu choice and food served was of very good quality. However, there were a lot of people there and it for me it was very noisy. The ratings is from my personal preferences for quieter atmospheres. Others may not be affected by this.

24/05/2026: I would like to just thank aoife for being so attentive when I was in the athlone springs hotel today I was being overlooked by many and had asked 3 times for a drink with my food to another staff member she just said it ordered and never brought it over so I asked aoife she went and got a bowl of water for my hands and she smiled a lot at everyone but to be honest the other staff are a let down and need to do more training in customer care so all the stars today are for one member aoife and the mash was super but the chicken wings not so good

25/07/2026: Terrible salty food coupled with ignorant service. Won’t be wasting my money here again. We didn’t even eat the food, no care at all for the place. A shame really

10/07/2026: Burgers were great. My wife said the vege burger was delicious. Staff were very welcoming and friendly.

18/08/2026: I really enjoyed the chef's special chicken curry. The staff were really nice and attentive. The food was really tasty and enjoyable. It's close to the Shannon river, Sean's Bar and downtown Athlone. PS The music was good quality and at a good volume for anyone with sensory sound issues.

15/08/2026: Had lunch here. We had the weekend special Lamb Stew, kids pasta, pork sandwich and the Indian chicken curry. The stew was amazing and a must try. No complaints with the other orders. Service was prompt. It’s a cute little place right next the back of the castle.

17/08/2026: Honestly really good Chinese, we got a munchy box which was a really good price for what you get, plenty of chicken and very flavour full, full of spices. Satay was really good, not oily like some places have, and the tub was huge. The ladies behind the counter were amazing, even though we came just as they opened and they were flooded with orders everything was well organised and handled with a smile. We wanted to change to just shredded chicken in our order and it was handled right away without problem. Worth trying and I will be going back

18/06/2026: Stopped for a pint. Great atmosphere, friendly service, good selection.

08/08/2026: We arrived arrived just before 11pm and everything was closed up, covers over the touch screen stands, tables cleaned, and kitchen completely empty, no staff. So obviously I appreciate it says 23:00 hours for their closing time but believe me this was well closed. We were directed to another McDonald's which was out of the way so we didn't bother. We went to Apple Green at Enfield M4 and although the food options there were closed by the time we got there, there was a great variety of pre-made meals and sandwiches. Also a good hot drinks station and very bathroom facilities, the staff were also friendly. The reason I've given the stars I have is because we didn't get any food as there wasn't any available, and there was no service really available apart from a few staff cleaning up, so I gave it one star just to rate it.

05/08/2026: They use to be top notch out there in mcdonalds, but over the years they are getting worse.. Basic things left out of an order. No stirer for tea through the drive through no sugar or milk.. No spoon for porridge.. A joke. God be with the days you get a frappe in the morning or a smoothie with your meal.. No same answer machine getting cleaned.. Until 12pm...what a Joke...so no frappes or smoothies in the mornings when they always use to do them. Just laziness if you ask me..
