The best restaurants in Athlone

14/06/2025: Spent a week in Ireland recently on a lightning visit and this was undoubtedly the best breakfast of the trip. Very welcoming place with great food and reasonable prices. Please open a branch cafe on Vancouver Island.

30/05/2025: I had a really delicious breakfast of French toast with bacon, real Maple syrup and two fruits. It was so light and freshly cooked, beautifully presented and so tasty. I felt very satisfied together with a flat white I was set up for the day. Congrats on keeping your standards high. Geraldine it’s lovely when you are there but your staff are also efficient and friendly. Poppyfields is a gem to have in Athlone. I would recommend breakfast here for sure.

16/07/2025: Beautiful hotel, rooms are amazing, checking in was abit slow and we eventually got the room keys to work after 3 different sets. Thought there might be robes and slippers in the rooms to go to the spa but you can't have everything. I'll definitely be staying again and I would recommend it. Great location and value for money.

08/07/2025: I highly recommend the Sheraton Hotel in Athlone, beautiful room, view of the whole city, great breakfast, great pool with saunas and staff 👍

05/07/2025: For anyone traveling between Dublin and Galway / Cliffs of Moher in need of Indian / Pakistani food- this is your spot!! Excellent food and service!! Authentic butter chicken and chicken tikka and the saag paneer was exceptional. The owner was so kind as well!

22/07/2025: Athlone Towncentre is one of the best shopping centres in the Midlands. It’s clean, modern, and has a great mix of shops – from well-known brands like Zara, H&M, and M&S to lovely smaller boutiques. The layout is easy to navigate, and everything is well signposted. The staff throughout the centre, including security and cleaning teams, are always friendly and helpful. I also love that there are plenty of spots to grab a coffee or a bite to eat — The Fatted Calf nearby is a real treat if you're looking for something a bit special. There’s plenty of parking, and it's right in the town centre, so it’s very handy if you're combining your shopping with other errands. Always a pleasant visit! Highly recommend for locals and visitors alike.

16/07/2025: Went for my 30th birthday meal here, they brought out a brownie and sang the happy birthday song, really lovely night. Food was perfectly cooked and service was terrific 👌 thankyou all very very much

03/07/2025: We had a very delicious dinner at the Riverview Bistro. It’s very conveniently located a few doors down from Sean’s Bar in Athlone. Very nicely decorated inside and a menu with a variety of items. Also kid friendly

27/06/2025: Nice staff, good food and not too expensive. But the QR code / website system for ordering is awful. There’s also a large touchscreen by the counter where you can order. But its more like McDonald’s than a nice town centre cafe. The fact that it automatically adds a 20% tip is particularly annoying. If the waiting staff could take the orders instead of a computer, it would be a 5 star cafe. But it’s badly let down by the IT.

22/06/2025: Stopped off on the way from Dublin to Galway and found this place to be a real gem. I had the Indian Street Food Burger and my friend had the Buddha Bowl. Everything was fresh, homemade (even the coleslaw!), and full of flavour. The staff were helpful and attentive. On leaving we got ice-cream comes with raspberry sauce and even that was superb. Will definitely come back on our return journey.

29/06/2025: Looked great walking in and really busy. Food was average at best though which was disappointing considering the prices.

15/06/2025: First time at Left Bank Bistro. Had lunch here with the family. On the booking I had indicated we were celebrating a birthday but there was no effort made about that. We asked about gluten free options. One waitress told us spring rolls were gluten free but then when ordering another waiter said they were not and actually provided us with the allergen menu. The only gluten free starter was a salad. I was let down by the lack of coeliac friendly dishes on the menu. The restaurant gets quite loud when busy. There are no soft furnishings to absorb the sound, which I'd recommend adding cushions to chairs. We asked if one of the waiters could take a photo of the group and we felt very much like they couldn't get us out the door fast enough. Definitely lacking the personable and welcoming touch I'd expect from any restaurant. I'm unlikely to return soon due to my experience.

12/07/2025: Absolute favorite spot in Athlone during my study abroad trip! Came in the first night on a whim, and the welcome was so warm I kept coming back over the next month. It is a smaller spot, but the atmosphere is iconic. Ann and her dogs were my home away from home during my stay.

22/07/2025: Best Indian food I’ve ever had in Europe! They have unique options from Southern Indian cuisine, and everything I tried was terrific. The server, Sravani, also provided exceptional service!
