The best restaurants in Athlone

25/08/2025: Lovely place decor is fantastic 😊 service very efficient only negative there was not one healthy meal option even the pastas all had cream. No salad options pity. Fish was nice.

23/08/2025: I love the place. Great for food & drink. Good selection of beer and cocktails 🍹🍸 It's in town, great location, good vibes inside.

17/08/2025: Lovely and modern hotel located in the heart of Athlone. The spa was the highlight – I would highly recommend booking a treatment for a relaxing experience. The leisure centre was a great bonus and added to the overall enjoyment of our stay. While the food was fairly standard, everything else more than made up for it.

19/08/2025: Anchor tenants are Next, H&M, Zara, River Island, M&S, TK Max and sports direct. M&S is a bit small. Great smaller stores are Pandora, Art&Hobby, Fields, easons. Good food options throughout also - harvest cafe worth finding if you're not into Starbucks or coffee shop cafes

16/08/2025: Cosy mall to visit. A few restaurants to choose from. Nice day visit.

15/08/2025: It wasn't busy the afternoon we visited but we still had to wait ages to order. Thinking it was self service, we went inside to order and the girl claimed she didn't see us (3 people). She was surly and gave us the impression that we were inconveniencing her. The food was good but rather pricey for the portions.

05/08/2025: What a lovely place to eat great food excellent staff and a nice atmosphere

01/09/2025: Such a vibrant place, always busy and buzzing but the food was terrible. I ordered the mushroom bruschetta with parmesan which was lovely (and the only good thing I’ve had that evening), burger which was very dry and their lava cake for dessert which was very dry as well. It feels like that cake has been on the fridge for ages, that all the moist that it should have was all gone. You can even see it in the picture.

29/08/2025: Great food and a lot to do around there. Really close to Sean’s bar in a huge castle that you can tour.

20/08/2025: The staff were very friendly and attentive. The food was PHENOMENAL!! I had the cheese please burger which was the juiciest, most flavorful burger so far throughout my Ireland trip. They even made me an adult caprisun. You’re missing out if you don’t come here.

17/08/2025: Came in on a Saturday evening and was really impressed from the start. We were seated straight away, despite it being busy, as there were plenty of staff on hand. The place is spacious, well looked after, and has a great atmosphere. The food was absolutely delicious — everything came out fresh and nicely presented. The staff were friendly, attentive, and really made the experience even better. Overall, a great night out and I’d definitely recommend it!

20/08/2025: We are on a road trip around Ireland and this was one of our favorite meals during our two week journey. The food was so delicious, it is clear that it is made with the highest quality ingredients. You can really taste the love and expertise that goes into making each dish. The service was also wonderful, we can’t wait for our next visit to Ireland so we can eat here again, I can’t recommend this restaurant enough!

07/08/2025: We were hungry and we found this hidden gem! If you are a desi food lover you will definitely love it! From raita to rice, to naan, bbq thaal! All the flavours were on Top!

20/08/2025: This place is the best pub in town. Think Cheers, but in Ireland. The bartender and locals were super friendly, telling jokes and giving local recommendations. We spent a lot of time here and plan to go back later tonight after dinner. Would HIGHLY recommend coming here for a pint or chocolate espresso martini.

05/08/2025: Firstly I would like to state I have been frequenting Biddy’s O’Dowd’s Bar in Athlone since it Opened in 2022 a Couple of Times a Week during that time I rarely got a bad pint of Guinness and their was NO PROBLEM replacing said pint if this happened but in Recent Times Bad Pints of Guinness is a Regular Occurrences at Biddy’s Bar Regrettably …. They say GREED is a TERRIBLE THING if your in the PUB / CATERING BUSINESS or any business serving the Unaware Citizens of Ireland and Visitors DEADLY PRODUCTS … I have always Promoted Biddy’s O’Dowd’s or similar Business that is Selling Good Food or Drinkable Products I also frequented the old bar in the late 1980’s so I have the Experience of GOOD and BAD products like Guinness for nearly FIFTY YEARS which in anyone’s books Qualifies Me to WRITE this Review and Hurts Me at the same Time when Irish Citizens the Public Cannot Thrust Publicans Luckily they are fairly Rare around here anyway ….. This happened on the 10th June 2025 also VERBAL ABUSE I was SUBJECTED by CHRIS HEWITT LICENCE OWNER when he PHONED ME like a Person POSSESSED … I received a Superb Pint of Guinness when i entered the Pub it was Very Quiet and I was the only customer drinking the Good Stuff “Guinness Draught” everyone else was drinking Beers / Larger which should raised a Red Flag for me ….. I complemented Trish the Owners sister Chris on the Great Quality of the Guinness as I do Everywhere from Ireland to Portugal and further where I get a Great Pint of Guinness i ordered a Second Pint of Guinness The Second Pint was as different as Chalk and Cheese with Brown / Black Bubbles Accross its Head I won’t say Guinness as it wasn’t Guinness but Slops … How this Transformation from My First Superb Pint of Guinness to the Second Pint is IMPOSSIBLE unless the Barrel was finished and Trish replaced the Guinness Barrel with a New Barrel which was OFF also and could be Replaced with another New Keg if that is what Happened or the Original barrel was tampered with …… I made Trish aware of the Problem and she Replied “ it might be the Glasses !!!! “ as she hadn’t changed the Guinness Barrel I left it with her I ordered a Replacement Pint of Guinness Trish but it was EXACTLY the Same UNDRINKABLE I made Trish aware again …. New Customer entered the pub and Ordered a Pint of Guinness like a Shot Trish ran again down the stairse to the Cellar …. Trish visits the Cellar Very Frequently …… When Trish pulled and served a Pint of Guinness to the New Customer it looked Exactly the Same as my First Pint of Guinness which was a TOTAL Transformation …… NOT ….. I pointed the Guinness Transformation to Trish but got NO REPLY …. In fact I got the COLD SHOULDER from Trish !!!! I don’t know how many Guinness Taps they have but they had only One Guinness Tap initially I then Left Biddy as I was made UNWELCOME by Trish’s Attitude towards ME …. I got a Drinkable Pint of Good Guinness which I had No Problem obtaining in Athlone ….. I sent Trish a Picture of a “GOOD PINT” of GUINNESS which I had NO PROBLEM obtaining here in Athlone … Less than an Hour I was Subjected to a phone call from Chris Hewitt and Trish’s brother to a TERRAID of ABUSE ROARING DOWN THE PHONE AT ME HE WAS LIKE A MAN POSSESSED ….. I would also state their my be a Breach of the Data Protection Act 2018 as Chris Hewitt stated that he would make sure that I wouldn’t get served in any Pub an Athlone as he was printing my picture off Pub CCTV “ as I speak and sending it to them “ He also BARRED ME … This is All Over me making Trish his sister aware of a Bad Pint of Guinness which can happen in any Pub … I looked on Trish as a Friend telling her Personal Private stuff I thought we were Friends or so she made Out by Poisoning Me !!!! I drank in that old pub in the late 1980’s which has been closed for years that’s showing my age I was drinking here before Chris Hewitt was Born !!!!! So I Hope Chris and Trish aren’t showing a different Side of themselves by being AGEST to their Customers !!!!! They Definitely shown the Very Worst side of themselves that Morning Greed

11/08/2025: Went here on the recommendation of a friend, I ordered Chicken supreme with champ, my wife got chicken curry, I got the smallest chicken breast I have ever seen and the bed of champ wasn't that large either and was just Luke warm. I said to the water, but nothing was done about it. My wife asked for Garlic bread instead of the pitta bread,And when we got the bill we were charged €2 extra. We will not be returning 😒

24/08/2025: That big screen for ordering is a joke. Adds 20% tip then sfter you doing the work yourself. Wouldn't go near the place.
