The best restaurants in Athlone

24/05/2026: I got into the pub and the music was there. A lovely group playing a nice, smooth and evolving music, bodhrán included. Just great, believe it. As a plus, beef stew was tasty. It is a good place for a chilled talk and some drinks.

21/05/2026: The best pub and bistro in Westmeath for sure !!! Food ( always such a variety to choose from, generous portions , lovely atmosphere, service just fantastic!!! We are regulars in there and always getting the best experience!🥰 definitely recommend when in Athlone 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

29/12/2025: The place is really cute and cosy, such a cosy spot to relax. The service was excellent, we felt very well looked after. The food is absolutely amazing! I loved the fish and chips, full of flavour, and the apple vinaigrette was such a lovely surprise — it went perfectly. The portion was generous and really satisfying.

31/01/2026: Just spent few hours in this pub myself/ brother as train from Dublin to mayo was delayed great crack great buzz with locals bar staff friendly and helpful up athlone

18/04/2026: The facilities were old, but the beds were comfortable. Also, the receptionist's attitude towards other white people was noticeably different from their attitude towards Asians. It felt like the place was small and there weren't many foreigners there.

16/04/2026: We recently had our son’s Christening in the restaurant in the Sheraton and we were absolutely blown away by the amazing service from the reservation team and the restaurant staff. The reservation team Rachel and Daniel were so quick to respond in emails and had everything organised for us- nothing was an issue! They were so efficient and arranged a lovely menu for our group which was so reasonable. The food we were served was absolutely delicious, everyone was so impressed! Joe, the restaurant manager was amazing- had a designated area for our large group and the table was decorated beautifully for our celebration. Kelly and Daniel were just fabulous servers and so attentive and really lovely to all the children too. It made our day even more special to have been looked after so well by these lovely people, we are so grateful to have had such a wonderful day. We can’t thank them enough and will definitely be back and book any future parties with them.

15/12/2025: Wonderful little cafe with warm service and delicious food. I had the French toast with bacon and thoroughly enjoyed it! I didn’t try them but the desserts at the counter also looked divine. Our server was very kind and attentive - would gladly recommend and go back!

08/05/2026: We had the most wonderful meal at La Province Restaurant in the Sheraton Hotel under its Fabulous Friday deal which was unbelievable value. Our waiter, Matheo, was our host for the night and the young man was an absolute credit to his profession. Matheo looked after us so so well throughout the evening which added to our wedding anniversary weekend. Thank you Matheo and Sheraton.

21/03/2026: Attended recently for a Confirmation. Could not fault it!! The service was amazing and the food was even better. Would definitely return and recommend.

03/05/2026: We stayed at Athlone Springs Hotel recently and overall had a really nice experience. The staff were very friendly and welcoming from the moment we arrived, which made a great first impression. The hotel itself is clean and well maintained, and the atmosphere is relaxed. Our room was comfortable, although there was a small issue with the heating/cooling system. It didn’t affect our stay too much, but it’s something that could be looked at. One thing that stood out was the balcony — the room is listed as non-smoking, but there were cigarette remains left outside, so it would be good if this area was checked and cleaned more regularly. The leisure centre was a highlight. If you go later in the day (after 4 or 5pm), it’s and not too crowded, which makes it perfect for relaxing in the pool or sauna. There was a wedding on during our stay, so there was some music, but this is clearly part of what the hotel offers and it didn’t disturb us. The food was very good. Portions were generous and everything tasted fresh. Some dishes had a slightly spicy touch, which we actually enjoyed. I was especially impressed that my steak was cooked exactly as requested medium, perfect. Overall, a pleasant stay with friendly service, good food, and great facilities. Just a couple of small areas for improvement, but nothing that would stop us from coming back. Thank you💓

01/05/2026: Went to lunch Easter Sunday last at this Hotel. I had Salmon. The portion was a thin sliver, more like a half portion. The vegetables tasted reheated. Nobody asked if our lunch was ok, not even the maitre di/manageress on way out on payment maybe because there is an awareness it may be negative. No lamb on the menu which u would expect on Easter Sunday. Very disappointing experience for a 4* Hotel.

21/04/2026: Used to be great, now staff feel like they have no joy in their soul, when you order on the app for collection, you're waiting another 20 minutes once you arrive (kinda defeats the whole point of collection?) also recently when you order something that requires a fork (such as taco fries), they never include the fork in the bag. Food is great as usual but the service really lets it down. Also rang us 20 minutes after we left asking if we were on our way to collect, clearly no communication between the team.

05/05/2026: We recently hosted a party at The Bailey Bar on Saturday night, and it was outstanding from start to finish. The food was excellent, the service was seamless, and the staff were truly unbelievable throughout the evening. From the moment we arrived, everyone felt comfortable and well looked after. The team went above and beyond to make sure everything ran smoothly, and many of our guests commented on how friendly and attentive they were. It was an amazing experience overall, and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend The Bailey for any special occasion. I’ll definitely be booking future parties there.

06/02/2026: Very hit and miss.... food is nice but lazy week day staff let's it down , that big guy in the black jacket is a waste of space and very unprofessional.. took my order, didn't leave the order slip out and proceeded to wander round talking crap to other staff who apparently had nothing to do either, I was on a lunch break so the delay in getting 1 wrap really annoyed me . He is either related to the owner or there for free as I don't know how he gets away with it .

22/11/2025: UPDATE: Sister Trish and cleaner Mother has left Biddy’s Pub “ We are Fed Up of his Greed and Bullying “ So who is telling Lies Now readers .. Firstly I would like to state I have been frequenting Biddy’s O’Dowd’s Bar Athlone since Opening in 2022 a Couple of Times a Week during that time I rarely got a bad pint of Guinness their was NO PROBLEM replacing a pint if this happened but in Recent Times Bad Pints of Guinness were a Regular Occurrences at Biddy’s Bar Regrettably .. GREED is a TERRIBLE THING if your in the PUB / CATERING BUSINESS or any business serving the Unsuspecting Citizens of Ireland and Visitors DEADLY PRODUCTS … I have always Promoted Biddy’s O’Dowd’s or similar Business that is Selling Good Food or Drinkable Products I also frequented the old bar in the late 1980’s so I have the Experience of GOOD and BAD products like Guinness for FORTY YEARS which in anyone’s books Qualifies Me to WRITE this Review and Hurts Me at the same Time .. If Irish Citizens the Public Cannot Trust Publicans Luckily they are Rare around Athlone anyway ….. I also was SUBJECTED to Verbal Abuse by Chris Hewitt Licence Owner when he PHONED ME like a Creature POSSESSED … I hung Up on him … I received a Superb Pint of Guinness when i entered the Pub it was Very Quiet and I was the only customer drinking the Good Stuff “Guinness Draught” everyone else was drinking Beers / Larger which should raised a Red Flag for me ….. I complemented Trish Owners sister Chris on the Great Quality of the Guinness as I do Everywhere from Ireland to Portugal and further where I get a Great Pint of Guinness i ordered a Second Pint of Guinness The Second Pint was as different as Chalk and Cheese with Brown / Black Bubbles Accross its Head I won’t say Guinness as it wasn’t Guinness but Slops … How this Transformation from My First Superb Pint of Guinness to the Second Pint is IMPOSSIBLE unless the Barrel was finished and Trish replaced the Guinness Barrel with a New Barrel which was OFF also and could be Replaced with another New Keg if that is what Happened or the Original barrel was tampered with … I made Trish aware of the Problem and she Replied “ it might be the Glasses !!!! “ as she hadn’t changed the Guinness Barrel I left it with her I ordered a Replacement Pint of Guinness Trish but it was EXACTLY the Same UNDRINKABLE I made Trish aware again … New Customer entered the pub and Ordered a Pint of Guinness like a Shot Trish ran again down the stairse to the Cellar .. Trish visits the Cellar Very Frequently .. When Trish pulled and served a Pint of Guinness to the New Customer it looked Exactly the Same as my First Pint of Guinness which was a TOTAL Transformation ..NOT … I pointed the Guinness Transformation to Trish but got NO REPLY .. In fact I got the COLD SHOULDER !!!! I then Left Biddy as I was made UNWELCOME by Trish’s Attitude towards ME.. I got a Drinkable Pint of Good Guinness which I had No Problem obtaining in Athlone ….. I sent Trish a Picture of a “GOOD PINT” of GUINNESS which I had NO PROBLEM obtaining here in Athlone .. Less than an Hour I was Subjected to a phone call from Chris Hewitt Trish’s brother a TERRAIN of ABUSE ROARING DOWN the PHONE at ME HE was like a Creature POSSESSED .. I would also state their my be a Breach of the Data Protection Act 2018 as Chris Hewitt stated that he would make sure that I wouldn’t get served in any Pub an Athlone as he was printing my picture off Pub CCTV “ as I speak and sending it to them “ He also BARRED ME .. This is All Over me making Trish his sister aware of a Bad Pint of Guinness which can happen in any Pub .. I looked on Trish as a Friend telling her Personal Private stuff I thought we were Friends or so she made Out by Poisoning Me !!!! I drank in that old pub in the late 1980’s which has been closed for years that’s showing my age I was drinking here before Chris Hewitt was Born !! So I Hope Chris and Trish aren’t showing a different Side of themselves by being AGEST to their Customers !! They Definitely shown the Very Worst side of themselves that Morning Greed Terrible Thing

20/08/2025: This place is the best pub in town. Think Cheers, but in Ireland. The bartender and locals were super friendly, telling jokes and giving local recommendations. We spent a lot of time here and plan to go back later tonight after dinner. Would HIGHLY recommend coming here for a pint or chocolate espresso martini.

07/05/2026: Went for mid week lunch.The food was so good.I ordered the Australian Dragon Roll.....excellent!The guy that was running the restaurant was so good at his job.....friendly and chatty.Highly recommend 😋
