The best restaurants in Athlone

05/10/2026: Food was great. Obviously theres no seating as this is just a counter in a garage shop. Waiting for food is a bit awkward as theres no waiting space; you're just in amongst the shelves trying not to be in anyone's way. Staff were not particularly warm and friendly, but then it was 7.30pm on a dark rainy Sunday. Overall a good place if you just need some quick food to eat in your car.

17/09/2026: Food was good but awkward queueing area but you can tell the staff already know this but are doing there best. Staff are very friendly and with food been done in front of customer it adds pressure to get things right. This shows in the results as was tastey food in every way. Well done staff.

04/03/2026: Pregames before (and after) the most recent Athlone Town AFC game, Speedy and staff couldn’t have been lovelier! Everything I’d hoped it’d be. Well worth the trip from the States. Until next time…

27/08/2026: Had lamb shank during a quiet weekday dinner. Was the best lamb shank I've ever had! Waiter (Phillip) was very considerate and accommodating; as was the chef. Lovely little street bistro with some cool pictures decorating the walls. Next time I'm back in Athlone, I'll bring my family. Keep up the great work! 👏👏

21/07/2026: Quiet when we were there, but it seems a nice pub for a pint t where you are able to chat. Not sure if food is served, so I can't comment on that.

21/06/2026: One of the best places for Pizza in Athlone. If not the best. Too yummy be it any pizza. Have it hot. And preferably there to experience the wholesome experience. Very courteous and professional folks. Kind too. The chef once gave me a cook book cos I was the only guy reading it. Their family packs are crazy deals too.

25/09/2026: Exceptional food. Four of us stopped for lunch on the way to Galway. Leah was lovely and friendly. Maggie was brilliant, full of information for our onward journey made our day. Perfect service

13/09/2026: Had a lovely lunch at Left Bank on Saturday we had a Cousin reunion, there was six of us, we all enjoyed our Lunch, service and atmosphere was great. Highly recommend restaurant.

10/09/2026: Unfortunately turned away at the door due to them being booked for the full evening (arrived at 630pm on a Thursday) including the bar which was completely empty. I wouldn't recommend based on the lack of service or attitude of the gentlemen behind the bar. It may be helpful for them to post their lack of availability on the door or that a reservation is required.

04/09/2026: Huge congratulations to Feargal, Fiona, Molly, Jack and all the team at The Fatted Calf on the move from Athlone to Grogans in Glasson. They’ve done an incredible job. The atmosphere is fantastic — great music, beautiful lighting and a really relaxed buzz. Service was exceptional: warm, knowledgeable and attentive. Most importantly, the food was absolutely outstanding, complemented by an excellent cocktail menu and a superb wine list. The Fatted Calf has always been special, and this feels like a brilliant new chapter. A fantastic addition to Glasson. Congratulations to everyone involved — we had a superb evening and will definitely be back! 👏🥂

15/08/2026: I Booked Jalan Jalan for Saturday night at 7 for two and was given a lovely seat at the window, when we sat down to read the menu we were spoilt for choices so we ended on duck rolls and California maki to start and had Singapore noodles and duck soup noodles for main and from start to finish everything was delicious and the service was fabulous. Definitely recommend and will hopefully make a trip back to Athlone to try again

02/08/2026: Ended up here by accident and did not regret it. Food was amazing, but service extremely slow.

10/07/2026: Nice overnight stay with dinner package. Hotel was great with views over the shannon and the cathedral across the river. Central location. Enjoyed our stay.

17/06/2026: Lovely hotel on the river. Comfortable rooms. Friendly staff. Great buffet breakfast.

12/06/2026: Its a simple accomodation but thats reflectes in the price . Very central . Rooms are clean and i had a perfect sleep . Abpve all staff is very friensly and helpfull . I came here with my bicycle and after asking where i could.park the bike safely they wven gave me the option of taking it intp my room . Also the adjacent bar serves very decent food at a reasonable price . Overall very pleasant experience to stay at the bailey .

07/06/2026: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A Cozy, Delicious Hidden Gem in Athlone! If you're looking for a great spot in Athlone, this small bar and lounge is a must-visit! We ordered: 🍅 Bruschetta 🍝 Baked Pasta (in tomato sauce) 🥣 Vegetable Soup 🍛 Vegetable Curry & Rice Every single item was absolutely delicious, freshly made, and served piping hot—which was an amazing bonus since it was raining heavily outside!

05/09/2026: Very unsanitary. Ordered a cookies and ice cream. The woman at the till after handling money and god knows what else she proceeded to grab the cookies with her hands, no gloves and didn’t wash her hands either. So disgusting. Won’t be back.

05/09/2026: Ordered a cookies and ice cream from the lady at the till. She then walks to go make it, picks up the cookies with her hands after just touching the money and previous customers money, to then handle the cookies without washing hands or putting on gloves. No food hygiene in this place at all.

03/10/2026: A superb place to drink a good pint and have a meal... on the road to the lakes of Connemara.

25/09/2026: I stopped in here knowing I didn’t have much time to stay and enjoy it, but hoping for at least a quick drink and that they could accommodate a quick takeaway order. I immediately wished I had more time to stay because I loved the decor and atmosphere. Then I looked at the menu and was pleasantly surprised that they had a vegetarian cauliflower wing option (which turned out to be delicious,) and the owner and staff were the nicest people ever! Definitely go here! You’ll be happy you did! GRMMA, a Maisie’s!
