06/01/2026: One of the best if not THE best bar in Carlow/Laois. Staff are always pleasant, friendly and efficient. Always a good atmosphere no matter what time or day of the week. Decent price for an always fantastic pint, not one of your overpriced rip off pubs we see so much of now. Very clean and extremely well run establishment.

Our guests are still talking about how beautiful the hotel was,how delicious the meal was & how welcoming everyone made them feel. 15/06/2026: Our group of 17 friends, travelling from different counties, chose The Step House in Borris, Co. Carlow as our meeting point for a night away together, and what a fantastic choice it turned out to be. From the moment we arrived, everything was first-class. We enjoyed a light lunch in the bar before taking a fascinating guided tour of Borris House, located directly opposite the hotel. The tour lasted around two hours and provided a wonderful insight into the rich history of the area. Afterwards, we spent some time exploring the charming village before returning to the hotel to relax and prepare for the evening. Dinner in the main restaurant was booked for 7pm, and it exceeded all expectations. The menu was excellent, the food was beautifully presented, and every dish was cooked to perfection. The staff were attentive, friendly, and professional throughout, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Following dinner, we enjoyed a nightcap in the bar before retiring to our rooms. The accommodation was comfortable, spotless, and ensured a great night's sleep. Breakfast the following morning was equally impressive. Afterwards, we took a lovely walk through the village to the viaduct, enjoying the beautiful surroundings before returning to the hotel for tea, coffee, and a final catch-up. Before headinghome, we all agreed that this would not be our last visit. In fact, we are already planning a return trip later in the year for a festive Christmas getaway. The Step House offers exceptional hospitality, outstanding food, comfortable accommodation, and a wonderful location. We couldn't recommend it highly enough and are already looking forward to our next stay.
