27/12/2024: I've been putting off writing this review because the prospect of saying everything that needs to be said is daunting. Maybe impossible. And also because I nominated them for a wedding venue award, which took awhile. My wife and I had our wedding and reception here in October for about 30 people. The atmosphere was perfect - cozy and intimate but not overcrowded or stuffy. It felt comfortable and homey but not cheap. A quintessential country pub, with all the tradition that carries. The food was incredible (spit-roasted local lamb over an open hearth turf fire, anyone?), the photographer was great, and the music (both live and DJ) was sincerely amazing. Everything was included in the wedding package, even two nights at a stunning cottage overlooking the lough. But Naoise, the coordinator, truly sent it over the top. She was constantly available, proactively engaged, and just went miles above and beyond to remove the stress of planning a wedding from overseas. I cannot speak highly enough of this place. They made us feel somehow simultaneously celebrated and part of the community. It was a perfect wedding. Absolutely perfect. If you're looking for a genuine human experience from an alternative microwedding venue that boasts waterfront dining in a rural Gaeltacht community, this is your spot. We laughed, we cried, we danced, and we cannot stop talking about it. It might not be my home, but it now occupies a suspiciously home-shaped place in my heart. Naoise, we'll be back!

02/02/2025: menu very boring needs to be updated by new owners

15/02/2025: A week after the ferocious storm which had been on 25 January we went for a ride out to the coast as it was a very sunny, if slightly cool day. Late afternoon we drove to Ballina and thought we'd eat at the Ballina Manor hotel. What an exquisite place!. Lovely sumptuous carpeting and furnishings with dining tables set alongside windows affording lovely views of the river, bridge and the town. The meal was excellent. Very large portions, served hot and with the steak cooked to our liking. The service was excellent too. We cannot wait to eat there again.

04/02/2025: From the minute I arrived at the Ballina Manor the staff were so friendly and welcoming. The rooms are spacious and top marks for cleanliness. They all deserve recognition for excellent customer care, you're not a number here, the personal touch in every aspect of my stay.

27/02/2025: Can't say enough about the chorizo/prawn/chilli pasta! Absolutely loved every mouthful. Will definitely order it again on our next visit. Prompt, friendly, unobtrusive service.

12/02/2025: My review has two parts to it. Firstly, the food – my husband and I stopped in Araby Coffee House on our way home to Tipperary the Saturday of the Bank Holiday in February. The food was unreal! I had a chicken wrap and my husband had the vol au vents, which were delicious! We actually didn’t eat for the rest of the evening so it saved me having to cook later on! The staff were so friendly and welcoming and there was such a lovely vibe in the place, locals chatting briefly as they passed each other’s tables etc. I would highly recommend Araby. Secondly – I used the bathroom before leaving and I had a dress ring on me which I took off and left it on the sink whilst washing my hands (it being a dress ring, water is not it’s friend!). We were halfway to Tipp when I realized I had left the ring behind! I phoned Araby and someone had very kindly handed the ring in. I told them the ring was worthless but I loved it and if I could Revolute someone the money, would they post it to me. They said no problem, they would post it but would not accept any payment from me. The ring arrived yesterday by REGISTERED POST! €9.50! The ring probably isn’t even worth that but they had it so carefully packaged up in bubble wrap and a padded envelope and a little note in it from Rachel enclosing the ring. I am so grateful to Araby for retuning the ring to me and I will definitely make it my business to call again for lunch when visiting relatives in Mayo.

01/11/2024: First timers and holiday makers here. My mum, two children under the age of 6 and I had a bite to eat here. Staff were friendly and kid friendly. My mum chose the Soup of the day which was vegetable at €6.50. The children shared a toasted ham and cheese sandwich €7 (served with complimentary raisins: a nice touch) and I savoured a creamy fishy chowder at €8.95. The cakes, especially the coffee cake, looked tempting but we resisted on this occasion. Lovely feel to the place and nicely decorated for the season of Halloween. You can buy bits and bobs here also eg soap, Turkish delight, rock etc. Parking across the road. Recommended if you are in the area.

08/01/2025: Top class menu and service, and the food was off the scale good.............. simple done extremely well! Six of us had a great starter, lunch and dessert and had a great afternoon, thank you! We'll be back

29/12/2024: We went to this restaurant on a busy Saturday - a party of 21 with no reservation. The staff quickly sorted us with tables and we enjoyed a delicious meal and drinks. Very friendly and attentive servers - thank you!

01/03/2025: Very Disappointing Experience. My partner and myself stayed here for one night. On arrival to our room we were greeted with the most horrible smell from the bathroom drains which was overpowering for our entire stay. The bath was also dirty and rusted. We were left some stale biscuits in a jar in the room which we enjoyed looking out at the view through our dirty windows. We paid an extra 60 euro on arrival to use the leisure facilities. Surely for the price of the run down rooms this could have been included as it's the only draw to the property. I put on my robe and managed to get it tied up although all the loops had been torn off and went to the thermal suite. The suite is nice we enjoyed it but I think paying for it with the crazy room rates is a bit much. The evening restaurant lacks any atmosphere. It's like eating in a quiet airport bar and lacks any personality. We ordered our food and the starters were nice. The waiter brought our mains to the wrong table and left the man on the table beside us to eat my partner's steak while the rest of us had nothing. My food was brought back to the kitchen. They rushed my partner's medium steak and it came out rare, unrested and leaked all over the plate. My duck was at this stage dry, cold and horrible. Desserts were not nice. Dry tough pecan pie and a hard jelly like pana cotta. Not good enough when claiming high standards. Breakfast was fine but very slow and the food was just not great. Using the run off juice off the berry compote and putting it in a shot glass and calling it a super health shot was embarrassing and it's just not nice. Cutting corners and missing the small details will only last so long with those rates being charged. The restaurant is a soulless shambles. We would never recommend this place and will never return. No value whatsoever. Very disappointed with The Ice House.
