06/02/2026: Outstanding meal in Bar One. I had the beef short rib and it was absolutely superb, beautifully tender, packed with flavour, and clearly cooked with real care. Comfort food done properly, using quality ingredients and executed at a very high level. You can feel the experience and pride behind the food here, and the service matches it. A brilliant spot that consistently delivers. I’ll be back.

23/03/2026: Had a delicious Sunday lunch in the West this week with the family. Fast friendly service and the food was good quality and fairly priced. Portion sizes were very generous and the staff couldn't do enough for us. Will be back!

26/02/2026: Very good food and great setting. Food is some of the best in Castlebar with a price to match but it’s worth it for sure. Staff are very good and attentive and you feel valued by them. One minor suggestion I would have for the owners is to change the had dryer in the bathroom to paper towels. Hand dryers aren’t that hygienic and the restaurant would benefit from an upgrade

09/03/2026: Fabulous in house restaurant. Casual atmosphere with a great menu. We had a later dinner and enjoyed everything we ordered. The pie of the week was chicken and mushroom and was delicious! Highly recommend

18/09/2025: What a gem of a place, we’d been to the Deli the day before and bought some granola and flour, and had a take out coffee, so we were really looking forward to a late breakfast at Café Rua. First impressions were a fantastic welcome and real friendly people, nothing sham or pretend here. What a great menu, absolutely something for all tastes and dietary requirements. The chorizo, spinach and sautéed potatoes, topped with 2 perfectly poached eggs and accompanied with chilli relish was excellent. Real fresh orange juice was delightful, and the coffee? Epic! What a fabulous way to spend time being looked after in one of the best cafés I’ve visited.

09/03/2026: Good food and great craic at the bar. We were touring the Wild Atlantic Way and needed somewhere to stop for the night and grab a bite to eat. The Merry Monk was friendly, welcoming, and great value. A perfect spot if you’re passing through and looking for good food and a relaxed atmosphere.

31/01/2026: This is were all the cool kids go... of course I noticed it was the kids of the 90s. The best generation, But still cool nonetheless. A great bar with some great cool hide away tables. This allows for decent chats and socialising, not provided by Bridge St, you have to bring your own. Normally Irish bars have live bands, no shade as the kids say. But sometimes you want a bar with a great selection of drinks and to be able to speak to the people on your table. This is the place. Staff are friendly and intuitive, not leaving you thirsty. Also there is a great outdoor area which allows for eating. There is even a food truck that parks right up to the outside tables. So there isn't much of a walk for a take away pint and meal. Also if you prefer other takeaway places, they all say that you can eat their food there too. The outside place is sheltered, but I wouldn't like to test it during a downpour.

01/01/2026: Just had a delightful meal in the Sheebeen. Lovely food, nice atmosphere in a warm and pleasant bar. First class all round.

30/12/2025: We go here every year, this year it wasnt as good as previous times. Chicken has a 20 min wait - which is completely fine, but the potatoes served (gratin) were lukewarm at best. Streak came out cold, had to hand back, for nearly 40e a steak youd expect better. Didnt have dessert, didnt want to be disappointed further. Just on the reply - we actually had a booking for 8pm, we did come early approx 735ish and we told staff that we didnt mind waiting. We specifically booked the snugg area, which since we were early had to be setup. But again we told staff that we were early and didnt mind waiting. We were facilitated which we thanked the staff for.

01/03/2026: Stayed here last night and I must say it was a great stay! The staff were incredible, even under pressure as it was extremely busy yesterday! They made sure we had what we needed! The food was fabulous! Such a lovely selection on the menu! The room was so cosy & clean!

18/01/2026: This pub is very well located, in a lovely corner of Westport. The team is very welcoming and effective, which makes the waiting time very little! The food is good, portions are very generous and tasty. It is a very small, traditional, and well themed pub. I like the overall energy. I recommend.

12/11/2025: Played this fabulous creation with a Lifetime member in October. It was part of a weekend of Golf.Texas scramble. 4 ball better ball. Best set of par 3s you will find anywhere. Fab greens brilliant welcome from Management.Golf shop and clubhouse staff. 4 amazing days of golf. Thanks Peter Jim and Stacey for your company. Highly recommend a visit. And the town of Bellmullet has amazing pubs and restaurants. Oh and the Guinness.
