13/09/2026: ⭐ 1 Star – Extremely disappointing experience after almost 20 years of visiting I have been a regular visitor to Zucchini’s for almost 20 years. The food has always been excellent, and 99% of my restaurant and hotel reviews are positive. I am not someone who enjoys bashing businesses, which makes this review particularly disappointing. I booked a table online for my wife, my parents in their 70s and our 10-month-old baby. The booking system offered the option to add an infant and asked about buggy and high-chair requirements. I completed the booking and received confirmation. On arrival, I was told I had not booked for the infant and that there was no space for our group. I explained that I had booked correctly and tested the website on my phone, discovering that the infant appeared to disappear from the booking afterwards. I have screenshots and videos showing this. When I calmly raised the issue, the owner became extremely confrontational, told me to leave and threatened to call the Garda. This was deeply upsetting for my family, particularly my 77-year-old father. I want to give genuine credit to the assistant manager, who was polite, respectful and understanding. He acknowledged that there appeared to be an issue with the website and immediately tried to resolve the situation. Unfortunately, by that stage, we no longer felt comfortable remaining and decided to leave. Why I have been forced to post this review I initially posted a review on TripAdvisor and deliberately waited 24 hours to give the owner an opportunity to reflect and contact me. No such contact came. The restaurant’s response to my TripAdvisor review is inaccurate and fails to tell the full story. It states that the issue was resolved, but completely omits the threats made to intimidate me and my family. It also fails to acknowledge that we were respectful throughout, and that the assistant manager treated us with courtesy and professionalism. The owner was the person who was rude and confrontational, she was the only member of staff that we had any issue with. She did not have the manners to acknowledge any mistake, either at the restaurant or afterwards, and instead blamed me for a problem with the booking system. What makes this particularly frustrating is that I can now see the option to add an infant has been removed from their website. The issue appears to have been corrected, yet there has still been no apology. I have therefore felt forced to post this Google review as well as my TripAdvisor review, because I do not believe the restaurant’s response accurately reflects what happened. I have huge sympathy for the staff here, particularly the assistant manager, who handled a very difficult situation with professionalism and respect.

28/08/2026: Really impressed. Both had 3 courses, all irish sourced food. The lamb main was a special on the night and was absolutely delicious and cooked to perfection. All 6 courses did not disappoint. To highlight my wife said, her black pudding salad starter was potentially the nicest starter she has ever had. Staff were all smiling and there was a nice atmosphere with the music playing at a reasonable decibel level. 10/10 would recommend.

16/08/2026: Went in with family for dinner. It was busy for a Sunday afternoon at 420pm so I was expecting to wait. At 440pm I seen other people had come in just after us and had been given food withun 20 mins. Still waiting s I questioned the wait and told its on the way. At 455pm I went up again and asked and told it was on the way. I said we've been sitting there nearly 40 mins and no sign of the food yet. Not happy. She said it was only ordered 20 mins ago not 40 mins. In that case the first girl had forgot to put the order through. At 505pm I said this has to be sorted soon it's ridiculous. It came out 3 minutes later. There was no effort made to adjust the bill because of their negligence, couldn't even take a couple of cluh orange drinks off as a gesture of good well on their part. Was my first time there in a long time and I can say I'll never be back again. Because this used to always be a great pub back in the day. Shame to see it gone to the dogs. Very let down by the service. The only saving grace was the food was nice but it was not worth waiting nearly an hour for when it was their issue and they didn't want to accept responsibility. Would have been great otherwise. Shame. And would certainly not recommend.

16/08/2026: This is fantastic place in a lovely rural setting in Meath. My wife and I had plenty of meals here on numerous occasions 💯💯💯. They have live music events which are great for the Craic 🍻🥂🥃🍾🥩🍕. The staff are very friendly and hard working. You won't make a mistake by going to The Hatchet 5 ⭐️🌟⭐️🌟⭐️ all the way. 11/09/2026: We had our Day 2 of our wedding in Mervyn’s yard From start to finish, everything was absolutely amazing. The staff were so friendly, attentive and helpful, and nothing was ever too much trouble. They really helped make the day so special for us and our families. The food was absolutely incredible too — everyone commented on how lovely everything was, and we couldn’t have asked for better. We really appreciate all the hard work that went on behind the scenes to make sure everything ran so smoothly. It was the perfect way to continue our wedding celebrations, and we will have such lovely memories of the day. The food was great and plentiful, the music created such a great atmosphere, and we felt so well looked after throughout by Tara and the team. 11/06/2026: I am writing this review specifically because of one of your staff members Becca. Vibrant fun and full of energy - I have years of experience working in hospitality and also attending weddings and she is genuinely a super star and knows how to engage and have fun. Best of luck with everything and do not lose your shine! In terms of the venue I was blown away I fell in love with it, and within seconds knew we will be booking this venue for our big day I would say service was good, friendly and experienced. Again Becca stole the show - nothing worse than an NPC serving at a wedding and becca was the main character (bar the bride and groom) not a paid ad. Just seriously impressed.

10/06/2026: Fantastic area to visit amd amazing hotel to stay a long relaxing week or weekend. Would recommend to friends amd family who enjoy the best of what's to offer here.

12/06/2026: We felt welcomed as soon as we arrived. The staff is amazingly helpful. The ONLY reason we didn't stay longer was because they were fully booked. Food was some of best we had in Ireland. We will definitely stay here when we return to Kells.

10/06/2026: Had afternoon tea here for a friend's birthday. Staff brought out a desert with candles and sang happy birthday and also offered to take photos which was greatly appreciated Food was lovely and service was great, only negative was they did not offer fresh tea and coffee during our visit. The only parking available on the day was council parking which is not connected to the hotel and the exit out of car park to the front of the hotel had no footpath.

01/08/2026: Very poor breakfast, Omlette wasnt an omlettes, Wasn't fresh American Pancakes and where was the fruit compote????

01/08/2026: We went for dinner on Friday evening (yesterday). The food was good, and the service was amazing! We were treated very well with the two waitresses from the moment we arrived. They found out it was our anniversary and we got a little surprise firework with our dessert, nicely decorated with a congratulations message by chocolate piping around the plate. The early bird portions are large and a glass of wine was icluded that made the price very reasonable. Super great experience, thank you!

06/07/2026: A beautiful restaurant as part of the Headfort hotel in heart of kells , always a favourite of mine , excellent food and drinks and friendly service by top class staff , definitely worth a visit , Fiona looked after us very well along with her colleague , thank you

08/08/2026: We visited this place unexpectedly and were truly impressed. The calamari was incredibly fresh — the best we’ve ever had. The barbecue ribs were perfectly cooked, tender, and falling off the bone, melting in your mouth with every bite. The quality of the food really stood out. Definitely worth a visit — highly recommended! 👍🏻

30/08/2026: Food really wasnt great. Soup was not hot and chicken satay wrap had a terrible satay sauce likely straight peanut butter. Coffee was great. Maybe baked goods are good.

21/08/2026: This is a great place to buy unique gifts and items. The food and drink are top notch. The staff is very friendly. I would highly recommend a stop with or without a tour of the Hill of Tara.
