The best restaurants in Kilkenny

20/06/2026: Found exactly what I was looking for with a chill pub outside the city center. A city self park is across the street. As soon as i walked in I knew this was a hang for me. The bar was chill with a community feel. Mostly men were gathered watching Hurling on the TV. There is also an adjacent too. I got a pint of Guinness at the bar. The bartender was friendly enough and price was good at under 8 euro. Fantastic tasting brew. It's a solid pub in Kildare.

27/03/2026: The hotel is centrally located which was very helpful. The rooms were very nice and the breakfast was great. The ladies we came in contact with at the front desk were the least friendly of all of our hotel stays, which was disappointing.

19/03/2026: Excellent hotel, meal was delicious and great value for stay. Superb location, close to shops and castle.

22/10/2025: Spent an hour or so there last June. Wonderful atmosphere. Friendly service, good food. One of my favorite stops in Ireland. Just a very comfortable place to be. A great place for quiet conversation of an afternoon.

04/07/2026: A lovely find for tapas and wine! The staff were very attentive and friendly, had a nice conversation with one of the girls, they were happy to accommodate our dog (we sat outside). The food was superb, we had fish tacos, mushroom sourdough, chicken skewers and pork sliders with patatas bravas, the wine list was excellent and we chose a very nice Alberino. 10/10!

22/05/2026: Great bar. I really like this place. It caters for all age groups easily. Lovely area out the back. Great pint, great service and staff. They cater for all sports fans but it's not consuming the atmosphere.

31/05/2026: Was in marios today. Have been here on numerous occasions previously and it's was good. Today I got a chicken burger and chips and it was honestly the pits! Chicken burger was skinny and miserable and topped with withered lettuce. The bacon was full of fat and the cheese was just a cheap cheese slice. Chips were soggy and curry dip was like water. I was disgusted and won't be returning again. Pity 😏

31/07/2026: The fish and chips were awful, smelling and tasting like fried oil. The burgers were truly horrible: dry, burnt, and thin, with no cheese and loaded with red onion. The salad that came with the fish and chips was just as bad; it looked like they had leftovers. It was expensive, extremely expensive for the service. The bathrooms were filthy and had no soap. A place to avoid.

18/02/2026: A couple weeks ago I tried mayflower Chinese for the first time after recently moving to Kilkenny. I was surprised at the price of some of the meals they have on just eat. I thought they must be gimmicks due to the price and amount you get compared to other Chinese places. Food arrived quick and hot and delicious. Would give it a 6/5 if I could. Would recommend to anyone looking for a Chinese takeaway.

31/12/2025: The service is excellent, especially thanks to Joel for his advice and help. The hotel is very, very nice. However, the value for money isn't great; it's expensive for the quality of the facilities.

17/11/2025: While the hotel is very beautiful, it feels like they rely on their historic charm over actually providing premium products. We booked our room through a third party (which may have led to some of the issues) but we did not get the room we booked. We paid for a King, but got a Full and a Single. A married couple sleeping on the full was less than spacious. The mattress was beyond hard, my spouse and I woke up with shoulder and hip pain all night. There were no outlets by the headboard to plug in electronics. The tv in the room was very small and dated. The bathroom tub wasn’t angled properly, resulting in you standing in water your entire shower. The bathroom toiletries appeared to be watered down, as they were very runny. The bathroom towels were very thin, but did the job. The hotel location was convenient, customer service was excellent, I appreciated the welcome cocktails, and the hotel was beautiful, but at the end of the day of your room is uncomfortable there’s no point in staying there.

06/06/2026: I chose this upstairs restaurant for a late lunch, and was really glad I did! The barn-like interior, with its timbered ceiling and whitewashed walls, recalled this building's former use as stables and grain store for the castle. It was spacious and clean, with comfortable chairs. The restaurant is self-service, and there was a decent choice of hot meals as well as a cold counter with quiches, jumbo sausage rolls, smoked salmon and various salads. I chose the cold poached salmon with green salad in a balsamic dressing, coleslaw, and grated carrot with raisins. The salmon was the best I'd eaten for a long time, chunky, moist and sprinkled with herbs, and the salads were very fresh and flavourful. The young man who served me at the counter was both charming and helpful. Would have liked to try one of the desserts but I was much too full! My lunch was not cheap but what you would expect to pay for a meal of this quality. Would heartily recommend!

04/05/2026: I had such a wonderful experience at the Kilkenny Design Centre Café, and I felt compelled to share it. From the moment we arrived, everything was warm and welcoming, but what truly made our visit stand out was a staff member named Kate. Kate went above and beyond to make sure my family and I were comfortable and well looked after. She was incredibly friendly, attentive, and genuinely seemed to love what she does—it really shows in how she interacts with customers. She also had great knowledge of the coffee menu and offered helpful recommendations that we all enjoyed. It’s rare to come across service that leaves such a lasting impression, but Kate absolutely did that for us. She made our visit feel special, and we’ll definitely be returning again!!! Highly recommend this café, not just for the lovely setting and food, but for the exceptional staff.

07/06/2026: A no frills pub. A typical old fashioned English pub with plenty of characters. We've been in a fair few times as a couple despite not living in Bury, and chatted to regulars no problem. The drinks prices are really reasonable. It does attract an older crowd as there are plenty of TVs with horse racing on etc. The staff have always been engaging and we've always been served quickly. Think along the lines of a Last Orders pub and you'll get ehat l mean.

08/05/2026: Great pub, football on TV, great pint of carling at a very reasonable price, barmaid was friendly & great at her job serving me straight away, I'm not from bury but everytime I come to bury will always make visit to this pub.

17/03/2026: The masala was far too sweet. The rosgh was good, but there was no noticeable difference between the cheese and the garlic naan. However, it was very quick.

02/02/2026: All the menu items we tasted was weirdly sweet. Just sweet. I have no idea how everything tasted the same kind of sweet, be it paneer, baingan, or even non veg curries. The only thing I liked was samosas. I would sadly not recommend this place to anyone with a spice palate.
