The best restaurants in Kilkenny

07/06/2026: A no frills pub. A typical old fashioned English pub with plenty of characters. We've been in a fair few times as a couple despite not living in Bury, and chatted to regulars no problem. The drinks prices are really reasonable. It does attract an older crowd as there are plenty of TVs with horse racing on etc. The staff have always been engaging and we've always been served quickly. Think along the lines of a Last Orders pub and you'll get ehat l mean.

08/05/2026: Great pub, football on TV, great pint of carling at a very reasonable price, barmaid was friendly & great at her job serving me straight away, I'm not from bury but everytime I come to bury will always make visit to this pub.

12/10/2025: Me and a friend brought our 2 small girls for afternoon tea yesterday afternoon. The room is beautifully done out. Loved the Alice in Wonderland themed afternoon tea. Would like more savory options, as these were very tasty and some things were overly sweet. However this is probably the way with all afternoon teas. Service was very good, waiter was very friendly.

27/07/2025: We visited this tea room with high hopes — hoping to have a lovely time and enjoy some nice desserts. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a disappointment. All the desserts were far too sweet. The cakes had a heavy buttercream, which I really didn’t enjoy. The Pavlova dessert had an overbaked, dry meringue. Overall, it just wasn’t worth the money

22/03/2026: My god, this place was utterly terrifying and disgusting. I was here in kilkenny stopping down after a long trip from clare. I was staying at a b&b and was craving a cheeky chipper. I seen this place while in a taxi while heading off into town. I came back to joes around 9:30 pm. First thing was that i said hello and got no but response. I asked for bag of chips and a 1/4 pounder. the staff were very moody for some reason but i couldn’t blame them cause what they were working in. the price came to around 15-20 for a medium chip and burger. Which was alright i guess. But oh my god i was waiting a solid 40 minutes for this food. After i finally got my food. Went back to the b&b and was buzzing. until i opened the chips. Every single one was burnt, Hard, or soggy and still cold. Some were okay do, but the burger. Like they didn’t even cook it. it was as bad as the smell of a badger. I didn’t eat the burger i just ate the normal chips. But i will NEVER! be going back to this place in my life if this was my last meal of my life i would say no and just kill me already. Do not come here. Unless if you live like a knacker.

14/03/2026: Only good thing about the chipper was the atmosphere cos JR was rolling a few up outside. Me and Shkippy shared a pizza. There were 3 dead mice on top of the pizza.

06/06/2026: I chose this upstairs restaurant for a late lunch, and was really glad I did! The barn-like interior, with its timbered ceiling and whitewashed walls, recalled this building's former use as stables and grain store for the castle. It was spacious and clean, with comfortable chairs. The restaurant is self-service, and there was a decent choice of hot meals as well as a cold counter with quiches, jumbo sausage rolls, smoked salmon and various salads. I chose the cold poached salmon with green salad in a balsamic dressing, coleslaw, and grated carrot with raisins. The salmon was the best I'd eaten for a long time, chunky, moist and sprinkled with herbs, and the salads were very fresh and flavourful. The young man who served me at the counter was both charming and helpful. Would have liked to try one of the desserts but I was much too full! My lunch was not cheap but what you would expect to pay for a meal of this quality. Would heartily recommend!

04/05/2026: I had such a wonderful experience at the Kilkenny Design Centre Café, and I felt compelled to share it. From the moment we arrived, everything was warm and welcoming, but what truly made our visit stand out was a staff member named Kate. Kate went above and beyond to make sure my family and I were comfortable and well looked after. She was incredibly friendly, attentive, and genuinely seemed to love what she does—it really shows in how she interacts with customers. She also had great knowledge of the coffee menu and offered helpful recommendations that we all enjoyed. It’s rare to come across service that leaves such a lasting impression, but Kate absolutely did that for us. She made our visit feel special, and we’ll definitely be returning again!!! Highly recommend this café, not just for the lovely setting and food, but for the exceptional staff.

06/09/2025: the spice bag was SO bad I think someone took a big dookie in it! service was goofy ah bad because nialls mother ate fries! I think it would be better if it costed a quarter!!!!! 🖕🖕🖕 NEVER go this place is from OHIO!!! 🥀 took 6-7 hours to get my food and it was probably noodles

21/10/2025: I ordered from this restaurant last night while in Kilkenny. I ordered Hot and Sour Soup, Schezuen Chicken and a Chicken Chow Mein. The delivery was fast, the food arrived piping hot and the chow mein was of a good quality and tasty. That was where this all stopped! The hot and sour soup had sweet chilli in it, and had an overriding sweet flavour that was not pleasant. This was more of a sweet and nothing soup and definitely not hot and sour. I then opened the 'Schezuen' chicken and to my absolute disgust this was again a sweet chilli chicken and not a schezuen pepper in sight. I rang the restaurant to see if i had been given the wrong dish in error and I was told 'No they do Schezuen Chicken with sweet chilli'! Well then this is not Schezuen chicken but sweet chilli chicken. The flavour was not to my taste at all, it was so sweet when all I wanted was the yummy spiciness of schezuen peppers. To their credit they agreed to get the delivery driver to come back to collect the food, as I was not going to eat either of these dishes, and I have just received my refund today also. If the schezuen & soup had been to the standard of the chow mein, I would have given this 5/5 but unfortunately neither were the dishes advertised.

11/11/2025: I was there on Saturday for dinner. I ordered the Japanese noodles. The food was cold and bland, the drinks were flat, there was dust and dirt everywhere. The staff were lovely and there was a Wonderful atmosphere but the food and drink was a let down.

15/11/2025: The last few times I have went here the food was barely ok . Meal was dry portion small. Choice was small. This place used to be great but not any more desserts took 40 mins to come out I will not be coming again . This use to be my favourite hotel. Went back again and will never eat hear again . The beef was dry the rest was OK very disappointing

12/11/2025: Went there this week and had dinner for two nights, we nearly missed due to the low rate, however I had to make a review! Food was so good, the service was excellent, they accommodate all our needs and were so gentle with our toddler making everything easier for us. The toddler food was gorgeous and there was so many options. I had the salmon and the curry , my husband had the hambúrguer and the salad (for the two nights) and we were not disappointed the 2 nights the food was exceptional! Really made our stay in the hotel easy as we did not had to go out for dinner having such great restaurant there.

20/05/2026: Poor delivery service.a few months ago,, i ordered and waited. And it took 40 mins on phone to driver with.clear directions to where he was to my house ,,still.never got after a hour and half..i refused payment. Inhave now ordered again,, and waited nearly hour,,

15/03/2026: One of the best Apache franchises in Ireland. Parking is the only downside during rush hours. This is our go to spot for late night pizza.
