The best restaurants in Kilkenny

24/03/2026: Can you give half a star I guess not, if your not to fond of hospital food stay well clear wether that be poison off the food, hepatitis in the toilet, or a beating at the end of the night.

28/06/2026: Usually this pub is better but on the 28th of june me and my friends went in and when the bartender was checking our id, she wouldnt accept my friends age card until we finally convinced her what it was. That same friend was waiting for his gf outside the bathroom and she rudely moved him on. Then, after 3 minutes of being there, my friend went to order just a blackcurrent to start but my other friends were gonna order actual drinks after her. She told my friend that if we werent going to get anything, and just sit outside then we could leave. She was insanely rude and bias towards us because of our age. We werent distruptive and were respectful to her through it all. The place was dead by the way with only 3 men watching a match.

26/07/2026: Minimal amount of effort went in to the food here. Not a sprig of salad or anything resembling it to garnish the plate or elevate the flavour. Typical lazy Irish hospitality, unfortunately. Prices were pumped up too.

27/06/2026: We were a group of eight and we were seated very quickly. The service was friendly and fast as well. The restaurant and restrooms were clean. The food was good; in fact, one person in our group ordered pad Thai without peanuts (due to allergies) and another person ordered their dish gluten-free, and there were no problems at all. I would definitely go back and recommend it.

12/06/2026: The Club House was the perfect location for our short and sweet visit to Kilkenny in May 2026. We were in town for 2 nights, and the hotel is right in the center of the city, just 2 minutes walk from Kilkenny Castle and the start of the Medieval Mile. The huge onsite parking lot was very handy (and secure). Our room was beautiful and so comfortable. It was so worth it to include breakfast in the mornings as well, as the food served was plentiful and satisfying. We loved the Club House's character, on top of being clean and and elegant, all the decorations and design elements makes it feel like you've stepped into a moment in history in the best way. Staff were all so helpful and kind, and shout outs to the Bar staff on our arrival evening (the first night of our Ireland vacation), who gave us a warm welcome. One thing to be aware of is that there is no elevator, so I likely would not come back with family members who have mobility concerns if there was no availability on the first floor (from what we saw, this would be a very comfortable and safe option as all ground floor rooms face the hotel's secure parking lot, which was quiet for the duration of our stay).

02/06/2026: The oldest hotel in the village still in operation. We had a small double; well, small is what it was, but it was only for one night. The hotel has a lot of character, excellent service, and a great breakfast. Ample free parking and located in the center.

12/07/2026: Great wee spot to grab an early coffee and go for a walk near the river. Lovely coffee, friendly service.

10/06/2026: Applegreen Paulstown is an extraordinary Facility.It has absolutely EVERYTHING ..the best coffee and crossies...the best hot food Deli and a delightful array of goodies to pick from the M+ S shop!! But what really makes Applegreen Paulstown stand out is the AMAZING Staff headed up by Phil and her Team.They are friendly welcoming and always there with a smile and a Good Morning.I always leave in good humour and well fed! Thir attention to detail....high standards and professionalism is something to behold. It is exemplary and is a model of excelllent practice nationally! Well done to Phil and Enda on a Superb Management model that works and delivers!!. You can feel the culture of collaboration and teamwork the minute you walk in the door!! It is this exemplary leadership that makes Applegreen Paulstown the best service provider that I have ever experienced. Congrats to all the staff and long may it continue. 21/07/2026: Just paid €9.50 for a glass of flat Prosecco. When I brought it back to the bar the bartender poured me another glass from an already opened bottle, unfortunately it was just as flat. I suppose they are catering to the one off tourist trade so they don’t care. Apparently the Hibernian is a four star hotel. Why don’t bars serve piccolo bottles? Them this problem would not occur. Love Ireland in general, but hate paying through the nose for (flat) sparkling wine. I probably should have ordered whiskey!

16/06/2026: A very atmospheric and pleasant bar. The interior is beautiful and well-designed. There's everything you need to relax and unwind. High-quality food and drinks, and professional staff.

09/04/2026: Another great stay in The Newpark Hotel. Our daughters love this place - with so many attractions you hardly ever need to leave the grounds. Willy Wonka experience was great. Staff very nice as always. Would definitely recommend to any family as a gate-away not only for kids but adults/parents as well as kids are very well looked after so parents can actually have some time to relax (not that easy to come by these days)

06/04/2026: I found the food a bit pricey, but I was very happy with the rooms and service. Kind of wish the pool had a bigger area for kids as well, but the Dino park more than made up for it.

18/07/2026: Incredible pints of Guinness. Potentially the best I have ever drank. Don’t believe me, check out the pics. Smashing lady behind the bar. Great spot for the sport.

23/07/2026: We stayed there at the weekend. The rooms are newly renovated and nicely designed. The staff were friendly. I wouldn’t say it’s great value for money (€243 for a compact room, no breakfast, no amenities). We booked a double room and the bed was on the small side.

30/07/2025: Have had the pleasure of eating here twice over a few days. Brunch/Breakfast on a busy Saturday... pancakes excellent with bacon and maple syrup. And a kids portion of Nutella pancakes all went down a treat We had beetroot and avocado toast which was lovely could have eaten more. Was nearby for lunch on a second occasion and the food didn't disappoint. Burger and fries where tasty. Kids sliders and chips went down a treat. Missed out on dessert as it was closing time. Coffee was good. Both occasions staff where very nice and friendly service was quick. Will be back!

24/07/2025: Had the most amazing birthday breakfast for my wife at Doppio’s and couldn’t fault a single thing. The staff were warm, welcoming, and made the whole experience feel relaxed and special. We ordered the full Irish and the blueberry pancakes both were absolutely delicious. Perfectly cooked, great quality ingredients, and full of flavour. The pancakes especially were a real hit fluffy, fresh, and packed with blueberries! I’ve also had lunch here in the past, and the steak sandwich still stands out as one of the best I’ve ever had served on a rustic baguette, packed with flavour, and cooked just right. Consistently great food, lovely atmosphere, and fantastic service. Highly recommend Doppio’s it’s a gem! 👏🍳🥩🫐
