The best restaurants in Carrick-on-shannon

30/11/2024: We just had a brilliant time here last night. The menu was inventive, the food was delicious, and the fella playing the guitar was a gem.

30/11/2024: We really enjoyed our visit to Carrick and the Oarsman. The atmosphere downstairs was vibrant with lots of punters enjoying their weekend. We ate upstairs and it had the added bonus of a very talented gentleman playing an acoustic guitar. He played a wide range of instrumental tunes subtly in the background that had my foot tapping away during the meal. The staff were really friendly and on top of their game. Service was fast and they knew exactly who ordered what. Their home breads were delicious and so were all our starters, mains and desserts. The choice of wine and beer will suit all taste buds. Overall this is a really good gastro pub on top of its game and worth a visit if you are in the neighbourhood. We were a group of 8 and all of use said that we would be back. There was a group of 30, a number of couples and ourselves upstairs and everyone had a smile on their face and enjoying themselves. We are nearly an hour's drive from Carrick but it's worth the trip. Keep up the good work team Oarsman 👍

21/12/2024: We recently enjoyed a fantastic afternoon Christmas party in Buffalo Boy. We were a group of 26 from our dayservice and every one of us had a great time. The staff team are just amazing, the interactions and fun that was had with all our group was heartwarming. We were accomadated in every way possible, from the time being changed to suit our group to the perfect seating area .Our group choose to have a private party in the beer garden. The decor was gorgeous and the place was so cosy with all the heaters, we even had to ask to have them turned down as it so so nice and warm, staff attended to that immediately when asked. Some members did not want to sit with the large group and again that was not a problem they were accomadated in a quieter area of their choice. We even had our own D.J and danced the afternoon away. I haven't even mentioned the food yet! What can I say.!!. with a large group , between us I'd say every single dish on the menu was sampled and everyone loved what was served. Personally I choose the gorgeous beef cigars. My main was the absolutely delicious polenta chips and the tastiest pear and almond tart for desert. I could not fault any element of the meal. Our group wereall so happy afterwards. Everyone had a fantastic time.It was a wonderful start to our Christmas holiday, and I hear chats about wanting to have our 2025 Christmas party in Buffalo Boy too.. We are already looking forward to it.

16/12/2024: Well this was my first time to use the OpenTable app. I would normally ring or call in to book a table. But decided to use the app when it popped. Which was very user friendly. We arrived for our booking for 6 as planned. We knew we were out in the terrace/garden area. Which was fine. I have eaten out there before & it's always be lovely. On this occasion we were lead through this area up a stairs on to a balcony type area where our table was set out. There was another smaller table also there but not set . It was very cold & the smoking area door was about 10 feet behind us. The door was open & you could taste the smoke. All of us are non smokers so had never been in this area before. We did ask the waitress if it was possible to move as it was very cold. She was lovely very pleasant & said she would check. When she returned she advised us that the manager would be out to us shortly. I notice a few people I knew at a table in the normal terrace/garden area on my way in . So went to say hello. they did ask when we were sitting & when I said we were up the stairs. They said they never knew there was seating up there either. I did ask them when they booked & they said ages ago in the first week of December. ( I booked the 3rd of november) Anyway I returned to my seat & not long after the manager arrived. I asked if there were any other area or seating available as it was very cold & we could taste the smoke. But she said no. I did say I had booked before other people down below. She replied booking did not guarantee where you would be seated. I asked so if I rang up or called in as what I normally do .would I have a better chance of not getting this table again. She replied probably. I then asked her if she could Check my lunch time booking for Christmas eve as I would cancel it of it was here. Which she did and said no it was upstairs. She did say she would turn up the heating. On 3 further occasions somebody at out table asked a member of staff who was either bringing something to our table or carrying something out the back through the smoking area if we could have the heating turned up. Eventually it was turned up. The door to the smoking area was left open most of the time & we had to get up in turns to close it. There was a breeze blowing through the smoking area as there was fence with a gate left open . Our meal was lovely ; the waitress was so nice. It's just a pity our dining experience was tanted by constant flow of people walking by our table to smoking area leaving the door behind us open & the taste of smoke. We have dined here previously & always enjoyed it. Disappointed on this occasion. Might be an idea not to seat people so close to the smoking area.

08/12/2024: We've tried for a while to try get in here and got lucky this visit to carrick, the food was divine! Garlic cheese bread is out if the world 😛ill be back did that alone 😁we all had lasagne with salad and chips, there was a christening party on at the time we were there so it was quite slow service wise, staff were lovely well def be back

15/12/2024: My wife and I was passing by and was looking for somewhere to have lunch and sees little hidden gem in the Market square. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. We had the sourdough cheese tostie and the house salad, both of these were delicious and made to perfection. We would highly recommend this place and we would call again.

22/11/2024: Really friendly and helpful staff, good tasty and reasonably priced food in a comfortable and well designed bistro restaurant in the Main Street of the town. We were made welcome and seated quickly on a freezing cold night in this warm and cosy restaurant. The food arrived quickly and was well cooked and there was super attention to ensuring it was gluten free for one our party.

06/10/2024: This was a cosy, intimate restaurant which was perfect for a family dinner, couples dinner, a bite to eat, or a staff dinner! The service was fantastic from start to finish- very attentive and friendly staff! The food was amazing. For starters, we had the zucchini and focaccia- both were seasoned exceptionally and extremely hot. For mains, we had the prawns & chorizo pil pil and the rib eye steak. The flavours from the pil pil were unreal- a thoroughly enjoyable and satisfactory meal. The rib eye was cooked to liking, was tender and juicy- chips were also lovely. Peppercorn sauce was a beautiful addition . For dessert, we shared the chocolate mousse tart. It was extremely chocolately and a great dessert to share- however it wasn’t as mousse like as we anticipated. Only downfalls- the focaccia was slightly burnt (not an issue for us as it was beautifully seasoned & hot) and there was limited non-alcoholic beverages (again a minor thing).

20/10/2024: It’s a long time since I had eaten here and I was hoping the food was as good as I remembered….we weren’t disappointed! The service was great - quick and friendly - and the menu had some good choices and a wide variety. Would recommend the homemade chicken curry and spaghetti bolognese in particular! I’m pleased that Cryan’s has maintained its high quality over many years and will be definitely going back there again when we next visit!

04/10/2024: I love this place - great location on the Shannon, the best staff, great sized rooms, and Cryans traditional pub out the back is full of character, with Trad music every week. Every time we visit the Republic (at least once a year), we stay here.

20/11/2024: Coffee is overpriced and nothing special at all, you'll usually have a bad stomach after it and the food passable. No value for money and the staff can be rude at times. I'm a local but seldom visit here.

17/11/2024: Beautiful takeaway porridge!! Asked for slimline as am on lifestyle change. No problem! Most don’t accommodate my needs. It was a joy!!

11/12/2024: Really tasty food with huge amounts of flavours. Nice atmosphere and lovely waiting staff . The only improvement I would suggest is to serve better quality chips as that was the oby thing I didn’t like

27/11/2024: I went to the Red Bank for my birthday with my wife and daughter, we had their steak, a cocktail and barbecue chicken wings as a starter. As far as fine dining I think this is one of the closest you will find in Carrick-On-Shannon and Leitrim as a county, the service was top notch and they had a child chair for my daughter who is a toddler. The steak was great and the plating and presentation was very good, only downside was some part of my steak was a bit chewy. Their cocktails are to die for, myself and the Mrs had two different cocktails and we were impressed, the chicken wings came with a barbecue sauce and some infusion dressing, it was a winner for me. Overall 4/5 Stars. Great experience and value for money.

09/12/2024: Very limited choice for a vegan so was only able to have chips which were nice, and the coffee was nice. Would be great to see something substantial for vegans though, other chefs manage.....

06/09/2024: We went to the bar on Sat afternoon, staff were so welcoming chatty friendly. Craic was good behind the bar. We found the bar to be spotless and great relaxing atmosphere. We enquired about pubgrub Manager recommended Pizza it was lovely and delivered to us in no time. Definitely recommended a visit and we will def be back. SLAINTE
