The best restaurants in Louth

02/05/2025: The epitome of excellence. I have never found a dining experience where everything was perfection…..until now. No3 is the most beautiful venue for dining whether it be a light snack/lunch or an evening meal. As soon as we entered we knew we were in for something special, the atmosphere was so warm and friendly. We ordered our drinks (try the Limoncello Spritz…thank me later) and our food. Both the early bird menu and A La Carte were available. All 4 of us had different starters and loved each one, I had the chicken wings and guilty as charged I wouldn’t share as they were just too good 😊 We all went for the steak options which came with an array of extras ie: Shallot, mushrooms, choice of potatoes and of sauces. I have never in my years in earth had a steak that was so soft, delicious and cooked to absolute perfection. Anytime previously where I’ve asked for well done it’s been so hard you couldn’t enjoy it but not this one. It was melt in the mouth and we all agreed. One had a medium/rate and he loved it too. And the desert menu oh my goodness the selection was unreal!! Settled on Apple Crumble which was served with both vanilla ice cream and a dainty pot of custard. I was ecstatic when I realised there was no cinnamon in it, may sound like a bit odd but it always runs crumble for me so the fact that it was made the proper old way without cinnamon was bliss for me. Plenty of customers coming and going during our time there and a beautiful open area outside with coverage and heat. I simply cannot fault No3 at all, I was sad to be leaving but you can guarantee we’ll be back and have already decided what we’ll be having 😀 Huge Thank You to Martina & Wayne for making our first visit so amazing.

26/03/2025: Firstly I would like to address how disappointed we were in No.3 restaurant for my sons confirmation. The service was below average. I would understand if we had arrived unexpectedly however they knew we would be there. Some tables received their starters a good 25 minutes after everyone else. When asked the waiting staff to see where the food was it was replied it will be out when it's ready. For the main course tables ordered fish and chips however only got the chips when they finished the fish. The feedback from the roast beef it was tough and unedible. I was highly embarrassed that I had chosen No.3 as our family meal. The manager in my opinion should have been present and overseen that everything went well however he was present and did not once approach us. Unfortunately the day was a big let down due to the fact that it appeared they were unable to accommodate a large table with a very reduced 4 starters and 4 main courses set menu.

24/01/2025: I had a delicious bacon bap with ketchup and a lovely frothy cappuccino with chocolate sprinkled on top. Service was efficient and friendly. What more could you ask for. Returned yesterday for another delicious cappuccino to take away this time and did not disappoint. Lovely friendly staff and service. Chilled atmosphere. Clean toilets and clean cafe. I shall be back

14/12/2024: Excellent service, friendly welcoming staff and great café food. The high number of locals frequenting Harry's Cafe was testament to the high standard maintained.

23/06/2024: So disappointed in the carrickdale secret garden food these days, it has no taste and is reheated. Myself and my partner ordered sandwiches (wraps) and they came out in a few minutes, you could tell the wedges were sitting there all day. It costed us 40 euro and we would have been safer eating a McDonald’s. Wish carrickdale secret garden, bar and carvey would be given the attention it deserves as it used to be given years ago the food was gorgeous.

31/03/2024: Went with my other half and mum for my birthday and it was fantastic and the staff couldn't have been lovelier. Always a treat to come for the carvery and it was terrific as usual. Mum needed a wee bit of assistance and the staff couldn't have done more for us. The food BTW was excellent. The roasts were very tender and tasty. The portion sizes are huge and one meal would easily feed two. Really lovely place and the staff are just terrific and incredibly friendly - love it!

19/06/2025: Had seen pics of this place on various social media and it looked amazing so took the trip from Navan to experience a seafood lunch with a lovely view. The place was all locked up. The time we visited 12.20 Thursday 19.06.25 but had been hanging around from 12, and website says restaurant opens at 12 midday. Chatted to the lady across the road in the shop and she said the staff were in there alright. I remember this happening last year when I visited too, and the place shut, so my advice dont bother or put yourself out, as there are many other places that want your business. We went to the secret garden Carraigdale hotel for coffee , fabulous gardens, and ate in Strandfield cafe opposite Ballymascanlon hotel, amazing place for our main meal so all was not lost. Such a pity Glyde inn, as would have loved to have seen your lovely restaurant, but wont be returning again.

07/06/2025: We booked for lunch having heard that this pub was voted best in Leinster our expectations were high. Our starters were lovely We had oysters for 2 fishcake and caesar salad so far so good. Our mains took 45 mins to come out and every dish was disappointing Hake was not fresh and was overcooked, seafood pasta had very little fish and no prawns and worst dish of all was the fish and chips it was overcooked and 75% batter We waited for staff to clear table and ask how was your meal but nobody came near us after over 2 hours at the table for 2 courses we went looking for our bill, we paid it and will not be back . How they could be one of the best gastropubs in Ireland beats me.

05/07/2025: Absolute gem of a place, delicious food, coffee. Friendly staff and great fixing service!!

26/03/2025: Went there with friends for a late lunch today . The food was very enjoyable and the staff were so attentive. Really enjoyed the experience .

06/02/2025: Un peu vide et froid (ambiance hein pas chauffage) pour le déjeuner mais la cuisine était standard. Un curry un peu banal mais correct. Bonne bière. Si on est pressé ca vaut le coup parce qu'il serve toute la journée sinon cherchez autre chose si vous avez le temps

08/03/2025: I have a disability and needed to use the toilet urgently. All other pubs, restaurants, and cafes in Ardee have always been understanding and respectful. Not so the Fairgreen bar. When I entered I looked for a staff member to request permission to use the toilet but to no avail. Nobody was at the bar or front of house when I entered. I proceeded to use the toilet, where I heard strange, loud, noises emanating from the rear of the establishment. Presumably from the woman (?) I later identified as a staff member and another gentleman (?), perhaps also a staff member. Maybe I had interrupted a private meeting of some kind but in any case, as I urinated the woman began yelling into the toilet “hello! Hello! Hello!” Bear in mind it was around noon and so the bar was not exactly heaving (presumably this is why staff members had abandoned their posts for the rear of the building, where they made strange noises). Having completed washing my hands I made to exit. As I approached the door I became aware of an extremely aggressive voice braying “love love how are ya love?” or something to that effect, and then racing after me the same woman (?) staffer screamed, her inappropriate and frankly bizarre anger now uncontrollable: “Are ya awright luv? Did ya ask permission luv?” And so on. Given how rude and threatening the behaviour of the bar staffer was, I instinctively reached for my phone in case the situation escalated further and I needed to contact gardai. Thankfully I managed to safely exit the bar and hurried to my car. I want to underline that this bizarre, agitated, exaggerated display is very atypical for Ardee. I’m not sure what scene I had just interrupted or what influences produced such an extreme meltdown from this dangerously unhinged individual, but I can assure you that I will never return to this desperately run venue. Avoid this dump with its non house-trained staff like the plague.
