10/08/2025: Went in the tea rooms for some lunch after a walk around Birr Castle. It's really beautiful. The decor is stunning. The staff went above and beyond to please and were so attentive.
We had a lovely lunch and because it was all so good we stayed for cake...gorgeous!!
02/08/2025: Absolutely fantastic place to vist. Beautiful food, absolutely adorable the boutique and gift shop. Some fabulous gift ideas. Definitely worth a visit. Staff are very friendly and helpful. 100%recommend

We really enjoyed our stay at the hotel: everything was clean, comfortable, and cozy. We especially appreciated the comfortable mattress — it was a great sleep.
We were very satisfied with the check-in: there is parking, and the owner kindly met us even at midnight, although the reception closes at 10. He waited for us, and everything went perfectly.
In the morning, there was a wonderful breakfast in a pleasant atmosphere.
We were completely satisfied and gladly recommend this hotel to others!
02/07/2025: First class accommodation in the heart of Birr. The hosts are so friendly and attentive to all your needs. Fantastic healthy-option breakfasts, freshly prepared. I had dinner here at the Tapas restaurant which is a bright, spacious and fun restaurant with fantastic food options! I’m definitely coming back to Townsend House 😁👍

05/08/2025: Marketed as a 4 star - but I just can’t see it. Our room was large but very tired, unlike the reception tea which looks more modern. No a/c in rooms. Main bar/lounge area not appealing - on the evening we were there, a number of larger, loud groups (looked like football club type end of season get togethers) and families with children running around. Easy walk to the town centre. Large car park.
03/08/2025: 2nd time here lovely spot excellent helpful staff pool and sauna jacuzzi are spotless

22/02/2025: Bartender extremely hostile and rude , in as a family for a the rugby and was told the place isn’t a creche. Kids were quiet and as soon as the rugby ended we were told it isn’t a creche, happy to take our money until that point.

15/07/2025: Sweet Dreams Café is one of those lovely places that makes you feel right at home the moment you walk in. The food is absolutely delicious — all homemade and clearly made with care, and the desserts are on another level. The place itself is cosy and beautifully decorated, with a really calm, welcoming vibe. But the best part is the staff: genuinely friendly, attentive, and always smiling. Definitely a spot I’ll be coming back to.
