The best restaurants in Sligo

09/07/2026: Not sure about this place. Dull and not good rigatoni ala Norma. I would say aubergine and courgettes had seen better days, swimming in an oily tomato ? sauce. Seafood spaghetti was plentiful but sauce like water. I wonder is there a lack of understanding of what good Italian food is?

05/07/2026: A thoroughly disappointing experience in Rugantinos. Myself and my family were on a short trip to Sligo and we decided to book Rugantinos for two nights in a row as it has such a large menu and we had previously enjoyed dining here. Our party of 12 were all massively underwhelmed by both the food and the service. We shared some starters including chicken wings, calamari, garlic focaccina and bruschetta. The chicken wings were hard and dry, the calamari was bland and the bruschetta was soggy and underseasoned. We all ordered a main dish and we were disappointed to say the least. The mussels were way over seasoned, the pizza had a soggy base and way too much cheese and the chicken in mushroom sauce was way over cooked. The children's meals at €12 are far too big. When we asked for a dessert menu, there was no option for a children's dessert which in a family restaurant, I find very strange. When asked was this possible, we were told no that there was gelato on the menu. This was priced at €9 for two scoops! Three of our party ordered the creme brulee along with other desserts and coffees. All bar the creme brulees arrived quite promptly so after a while we asked were the creme brulees coming and the waitress said she would check. I saw her ask the waiter who had taken our order and he said to her "oh fuck I forgot". Having worked in the service industry myself for a very long time, I completely understand that mistakes happen. Instead of apologising for his mistake, he came over and said they came from a different section and essentially we needed to be patient. When I went to pay the bill, no one asked how everything was or even uttered a thank you. We paid the €520 bill and cancelled the table for the following day on the way out. No one seemed to be bothered. A very poor display of Irish hospitality and service. Not one of us will be back.

21/07/2026: THE PANCAKES AND BACON WERE AMAZING!!!! AND THE OMLETE WITH HAM!!! Mmmmmmmmmmmm so so so good

20/07/2026: For food - avoid. Ordered the ‘sasta bowl’ which was supposed to be roasted vegetables, hummus, toasted nuts and seeds. I paid €4.50 extra to add chicken. What I got was a bag of salad leaves, barely cooked courgette, pickled beetroot which was not mentioned on the menu, what you could only describe as a teaspoon of chicken on top and a tonne of hummus. Mentioned it the lovely staff who then brought down a bowl of some peppers, nuts and … more beetroot. Paid €16 for this, it was awful. Shame as it is on the river and a lovely setting.

07/08/2026: Food is always good, staff just need to cheer up a bit 😋 😀

02/08/2026: I ordered a Chicken Sandwich Meal and a Double Cheeseburger Sandwich through the drive-thru at the Sligo branch. Unfortunately, when I got home and opened the bag, I found that I had only been given the chicken sandwich meal and chicken sandwich The staff member never entered the Double Cheeseburger into the order. and that way I didn’t notice the mistake until after I had left, so I wasn’t going to drive back. This makes me wonder if the employee wasn’t listening carefully when taking my order. I am a regular customer of Supermac’s and usually have a good experience, but I have had several issues specifically with the Sligo branch. I hope the management pays more attention to order accuracy and customer service. Very disappointing experience. Please make sure your staff listen carefully and confirm customers’ orders before processing them.

27/06/2026: We had a lovely lunch and oyster tasting at the Sligo Oyster Experience. The staff was lovely too. It was nicely set up and even though we could not get to visit the oyster farm, they had many photos and videos of the oyster farm and the work done there in the venue. The oysters were beautifully presented and were very fresh and delicious. Aoife was very helpful in giving us information about the oysters and the farm. It was a great way to start out our day trip exploring Sligo town. Worth a visit. 👍

17/06/2026: Just back from a short break in the West of Ireland. The highlight was a visit and tasting at the Sligo Oyster Experience in Strandhill. Our host was informative and amusing, and we enjoyed a generous helping of delicious, fresh oysters. We would all go again and recommend this visit as 2 hours very well spent whilst in Sligo, whatever the weather.

11/04/2026: The best Apple pie i have had in a long time. Friendly staff, good coffee. Everything was quick and easy.

13/07/2026: One star food for five star prices. Inexperienced staff. ***Avoid***

08/07/2026: Popped in for a Breakfast Fry and coffee, was great, food was lovely, staff equally so. Power outlets in each of the booths and on each of the benches, good spot to grab a bite and charge your phone or laptop!

13/08/2026: Best bar staff in Sligo. All very helpful and were working their socks off during the festival.

07/07/2026: They started serving pizza, tastes great, love it. Must have. Atmosphere is full of dangerous drunks though, but I can handle it.

07/08/2026: A local fast-food restaurant open since 1971. The food is good and the menu is extensive. It's worth trying because it's an old-fashioned McDonald's, and places like this are becoming increasingly rare.

02/06/2026: Does what it says on the tin. Fast food and much better than supermacs in my opinion

09/08/2026: Guinness pint is shit. Music selection sucks. Their pet parrot almost hit me in the head and instead of apologizing the owner laughed at me with his shrill cackle. Horrible service.

08/06/2026: Called in on the off chance of a lunch time half pint and was pleasantly surprised by how welcoming the barman was. Add to that the quality of the beer (draught Guinness) was excellent and the atmosphere in the bar was superb. Thank you all

05/06/2026: Plus: large portions, curry sauce and rice were ok Negative: had chicken pad thai and chicken 4 in 1, I know its common to boil chicken at times not sre if thats how this chicken was cooked but unfortunately it was inedible. Complete gloupy and near glue like substance in parts, rock hard meat in others - had to leave both dishes as the quality of the chicken was shockingly poor. The chicken in the munch box was slightly better - but again wouldnt order again based on the quality of chicken in other two dishes. Will never order from here again given the low quality mea in the meals we received
