The best restaurants in Galway

01/07/2025: Feels overpriced for what you get. For reference Dublin breakfast spots do the same quality and size portion for less. Similar dishes in Dublin would be in the €8-€10 ballpark in the right spot, whereas it seems like in Galway breakfast spots like this €14+ What the lighthouse charge for their overnight oats and their beans on toast seems rather high. Maybe it’s the rent in Galway but I’ve found this is a common trend for most places. I’m puzzled as to why it’s warranted.

14/06/2025: So good! We got the hotpot, the Reuben, Beetroot and Red Lentil Soup, and the Tumeric Chai. All were fantastic!

12/06/2025: Highly recommended. All food was fresh and freshly prepared. Seasoned perfectly. Great to get a salad in Ireland that is fresh and not drowned in dressing. We had a lovely lunch.

14/06/2025: Small bakery and pastry shop serving French and Irish specialties. You can sit back and enjoy a leisurely breakfast, without the hustle and bustle. The products are delicious and smell like French pastries. The service is very friendly. I recommend it for a gentle wake-up call 👍👍👍

10/06/2025: Diabolical service, I was ignored when I arrived, no greeting, I had to interrupt the staff jabbering amongst themselves to get served, and was then asked with an attitude what I wanted,ordered a sandwich, sat down, 15 minutes later no sign of my order, had to interrupt the staff meeting again! to be asked did you order at the till, with a rightous attitude, after I already paid! You'd swear this place was big, then be served a chicken sandwich on a horrible ciabiatta (bought from supermarket cause it was not fresh baked in house) with no butter or dressing, I had to ask for mayo, dropped it on my table with no knife, had to go to the counter again and ask for one, lol it was like something you'd see in a comedy. Never again.

The staff are friendly and professional, with many speaking Italian, which adds to the authenticity of the experience. The pizza? Simply delicious. The dough is light, well-leavened and cooked to perfection. The ingredients are super fresh and high quality – from the fior di latte mozzarella to the San Marzano tomatoes. Among the favourites, the Margherita remains a timeless classic, but it’s also worth trying the more creative variations with Italian cured meats, and other options to suit all tastes!

08/06/2025: Popped in for Sunday breakfast. Eggs benedict with salmon a definate favourite. My husband had a mini breakfast. Great food. Good service. Good atmosphere.

12/07/2025: The food was delicious! I was worried because mixed reviews but wow the braised beef was amazing. The steak was good, burger great. The fish and chips all delicious! We had a big table and everyone loved their food. The kids had burger, spaghetti and sausage as an option. It was really hot inside that’s the only complaint.

06/07/2025: Review of Kelehan’s Food: 4/5 Service: 1/5 I’m American, and perhaps expectations around service differ depending upon where you’re from, but our experience at Kelehan’s on the evening of 7/6/25 was frustrating, even by the most basic of standards. We had a reservation at 6:00 and arrived at around 5:50 PM and didn’t leave until 7:45 PM. In that time, every, single, other, table, around us, had turned over at least once. Meanwhile, we sat with very little attention and painfully long waits between courses. At one point, our dinner was completely forgotten until I finally flagged someone down to ask about it. We were told that whoever picked up our appetizer did not mark as such in their system, so our dinner was never prepped. The food, once it arrived, was absolutely excellent! My wife had the pan-seared chicken, and I had the roast pork. Both were perfectly cooked and full of flavor. On day 12 of our visit, and 5 cities later, this was quite possibly the best meal that we’d had. However, that didn’t make up for how we were treated. Before leaving, I spoke with the manager, Daren. I told him honestly: the food had been amazing, but the service was s#*!. Apparently my word of the word s#*! multiple times to describe the service we experienced struck a nerve. I apologized, but explained that I was attempting to convey my sincere sentiments. Instead of taking that feedback seriously, apologizing, or trying to make things right, he brushed it off and offered a few excuses. There was no real apology, no real ownership, and certainly no effort to make it right. Sadly, the apple crumble we ordered for dessert, which was also SIGNIFICANTLY delayed and is what ultimately prompted me to speak with him, was the one true low point from the kitchen, dry, mealy, bland, and extremely disappointing. We each had one bite and left the rest. No discount. No courtesy. No reason to come back. Great food deserves great service. Here, you only get half the experience.

16/07/2025: Absolutely love this place!! Second time here this week for breakfast and just gorgeous! Food is incredible and the service and coffee plenty of space in the restaurant gorgeous atmosphere! We’ll be back to try evening menu next!

15/07/2025: We went as tour group and it couldn’t have been any better the steak is absolutely amazing never tasted anything so good! and as for the Tiramisu it’s a huge portion but so good. Vicky and her children darragh and Ava provided the best service looked after us so well they were all so friendly darragh kept us topped up with wine😀. So nice to see such a well run family business that gave us such a great night.

And a very special thanks to the lovely staff in the restaurant who went out of their way to accommodate us, as my Mother has serious mobility issues over the past year. We like to take her here these days for the food, ambiance, views and great staff.

01/07/2025: Beautiful little local Irish pub in Galway. Cozy atmosphere. It's beautiful to see how locals hang around and share time together. I liked the service and loved the live music play by people who just goes there with their instruments and play for everyone. A nice vibe.

31/05/2025: We stopped by for a morning coffee and were unfortunately a bit disappointed with the Flat Wide. The ratio of milk to coffee wasn't ideal for our taste, and the coffee wasn't quite as strong. The atmosphere is cozy, and the café offers a variety of pastries in addition to drinks.

23/05/2025: Came in today like I have many times with my partner. She had stepped out of work so we got a sandwich to go for her and I got a quiche and a coffee, 2 bits of food and a coffee came to 20 euro was good quality and coffee is definitely one of the nicer ones in the city. Arrived in just after 2, once the hour mark hit I was on my laptop as it came to 3 I was tying a few bits up with work, a worker comes over asking me could I move saying they need the table for other customers for those who are eating. I told her that that's no worries, i'll just head away (I had half a coffee left but I said their busy thats fair), then the worker then grabbed my work bag from my side and walked away with it. This is where I was extremely annoyed as she took it and placed it on the other table and gesturing me that there was no option but to move pointing at a table single table facing a blank wall more than likely where the staff go to eat in private. I felt like a show was being made of me as I walked over to get my bag to place my laptop in it. As I was walking over to the exit the worker the worker said to me "if you are upset..." and just shrugged. I didn't even know how to react so I just said its all good and went back to my workplace. Overall great food, highly recommend the quiche, great coffee and coffee art but I think its best to take your coffee and food in a box to go.

02/07/2025: Beautiful little cafe/hatch by the beach. Opens mostly on bright, dry-ish days during summer and occasionally during other seasons.
