Caldwell's Coffee House Ratoath
Ratoath
15/03/2024: Great for brunch. Lively little spot.
11/03/2024: Not a very Family friendly establishment. My husband booked a table for 5 adults, one child and a baby for Mother’s Day. Some of our party arrived before myself and my baby only to be told that they only had one high chair and because we did not ask for one at time of booking we could only have it until another party arrived. My husband was not told about this stipulation on booking and was not asked if a high chair was required at time of booking. I have since checked and cannot see any mention of this on website either so we weren’t to know honestly. Had we been told at time of booking we would have of course booked the high chair. When ordering I asked if I could have a smaller portion of food for the baby to eat and was told point blank no, the kitchen will not make small portions for babies or small children, we must order full portions or from kids menu. Baring in mind a portion of sausages is 3 sausages and the kids meals are all big for an 11 month old, I decided to just let the baby eat from my portion of food. I have been to many places who are happy to cater to babies needs for food and was surprised at this response. The attitude of the particular server we dealt with was very rude and honestly gave the impression she did not care about what we had to say. Unfortunately this was not the end of my dealings with this particular staff member, as once our allotted time with the high chair was up she came over stating it was needed by another table and as we hadn’t booked it I had to take the baby out while eating. I challenged the stipulation with the server and my husband reiterated the fact he was not told about having to book the high chair only to be laughed off by the server in what can only be described as a rude and condescending manner. I don’t know many establishments that require a high chair to be booked and as stated previously if we were told at the time of booking or asked would the baby require one we would of course have asked for one. I felt quite upset by the way I had been treated by the server over the course of the morning so spoke to who I thought was a senior staff member but have come to learn it was the owner. I was upset and laid out what had happened to the senior staff member only for the rude staff member to stand laughing and making faces behind her back as I spoke. There was no apology from the rude staff member or the senior staff member who simply stated I’ll deal with it later. We spent a small fortune in breakfast on what should have been a special Mother’s Day but it was ruined by a rude staff member. We frequent the Dunboyne establishment regularly and have always been happy with service and food, This was our first time in Rathoath and we won’t be back.

23/05/2024: Live music from 9:30pm, good served until 8:45pm. One good meal and one average meal. Probably due to the ordering just as kitchen closed. Musician had lots of character playing trad favourites.
11/05/2024: They already have stopped serving food at 5'oclock, the beer just didn't taste good and the bartender was far from professional, also she hardly spoke English.
