Thunders Home Bakery

Dublin
31/12/2024: I bought a cake from the Phibsborough shop on Saturday, the 21st, and was assured by the staff that it would stay fresh until the next day. But when I opened the box on Sunday, the strawberries were moldy, and the cake tasted awful. We had to throw the whole thing away—it was completely inedible. I contacted customer service, and on December 30th, they told me they couldn’t refund me because I had thrown the cake out (as if I was supposed to keep a moldy cake in my house for over a week!). They offered me a free replacement cake instead, but after such a terrible experience, there’s no way I’d want another cake from them. In short, they sell moldy cakes, and even when you show detailed photos, they refuse to refund you. I wouldn’t recommend Thunders to anyone. There’s a Tesco right next door that sells fresh cakes for half the price—and they’re actually good!

This Must Be The Place

Dublin
03/03/2025: We thought we'd try something new and book the clay making class via the website. We booked as a couple which cost around €26 each. When we arrived at the building it wasn't clear where it actually was, we finally found a sign saying 'This must be the place' on one of the windows of the second level of the buildings. Once inside we were greeted by Roberta who was very warm and welcoming. We sat down in a group of 8 on two tables, Roberta then introduced the company and herself. We then began moulding clay and it was really fun! Roberta made sure we had enough biscuits, coffee and tea. I would recommend this experience to other people as I think it's a nice creative space to do something different.

Ginzeng

Dublin
03/07/2024: People raved about this Ginzeng. Tried ordering orange chicken, lady said they had none today. Opted for the king prawns (I think salt & pepper?) at €10.00. Asked if it came with rice - yes, for another €5.00. Ditched the rice idea. They called me to the counter when my prawns (shrimp, actually) were ready Five of them. FIVE prawns on a bed of huge slices of green pepper and onion, with a few dots of chillies. Prawns were crunchy - not the batter, the actual prawns - and I couln't eat partially-cooked green pepper and onion. Took my tray (with the serving dish still full of "veg") to the counter when I was done, and was told to take it to a stand outside another restaurant. I pointed out that maybe a staff member could take it, and maybe show the chef how much of the meal was still in the dish. "No, you take it over there." Which I did - and I will remain "over there" next time I'm at Liffey Valley. Shocking prices, unexpectedly disappointing food. 1 out of 5, only because this page won't let me put 0.5.
08/03/2024: The Square Tallaght. Staff unfriendly, rude and unaccomadating. I got A four item box to sit in I requesting a little more curry sauce over my meal. I was advised if I wanted more I would have to for the curry sauce. Absolutely shocking. Zero customer service.

McDonald's

Dublin
03/04/2025: I have just come home from paying 9.10 for a burger and chips here. The Big Mac was cold, the chips were even colder. I asked the guy beside me. He said his chips were cold. A lady agreed her chips were cold. I told the young manager, he said he was sorry. Meanwhile families were paying out 20 and 30euro for this muck.
03/02/2025: I arrive there and the staff was hiding and had to wait ages to get served and all I ordered was a McFlurry and the staff calling out my number had a very aggressive tone in his voice and when I got my McFlurry it was half filled couldn’t even give me a proper serving and when i looked to complain all the stag were not present but as I was under time pressure I had to suck it up and leave

Up@Brews

Dublin
16/06/2025: (Long review incoming) Speaking as a former employee of up@brews, make sure you are aware what it is they expect from you, because they will expect you to work 9hr shifts with no breaks at all, and if a customer complains about something relating to you, the owner or manager won’t tell you, at least that’s my experience that happened. I worked in up@brews for 4 months and I loved working there, getting to know the locals and staff, as well as improving on my job as a barista. One day I took a 30 min break during a 9hr shift, since it is your basic human right (I have done 9hr shifts before with up@brews and never took a break, once done a 10hr shift with no breaks one time too), it was at 12pm on a Wednesday/Thursday, a time when it was quiet people were in work or school/college, and the only people we’d get was the odd dog walker or two. I never understood, during the 4 months I worked there, why there was no one with you on the day so you can take a break, or in general why you were not allowed to take a break at all. At that time I decided I would sit outside, have a bite to eat and drink and sat right outside the shack and said left a note saying “I would be back at 12.30 sharp”. I came back sharp at 12.30pm to look after customers and I didn’t think much of it. That was until 8 whole days later when I got a post it note at 8/8.30 in the morning telling me I’m not allowed to take a break and that I was only allowed toilet breaks. I was baffled, no text, no call from the manager or the owner, nothing. On the same day (another 9hr shift) after I closed up, I got told it was my last day and that I was gone. I had to wait a week after I got fired to find out the reasons. Eventually the owner got back to me and told me taking a break was one of the main reasons, he tried to explain the person who complained is a “good customer”. In my eyes, a “good customer” should understand that you are entitled to a break if you’re a working a 9hr shift. There were other reasons (the odd coffee or so wasn’t up to standard) I owned up to some of the complaints that were mentioned, which was fair enough. One thing I couldn’t wrap my head around as I asked to owner, why I was not given a 3 strike warning, which is what workers should get when a complaint is made, and why was I not told sooner about these complaints instead of days and weeks later. The owner seemed annoyed that I was still texting him and refused to answer my questions saying that “I don’t need to keep going back and forward with this”. I just wanted a simple answer as to why he and the manager let it all bundle up into one, instead of telling me, so I could’ve prevent these things from happening again. I really enjoyed the company of fellow staff, 99% of the customers were some of the nicest and sweetest people I’ve ever met. Unfortunately it had to end because the owner and manager let me go because I was following my basic workers rights and never told me about the complaints I have recieved. It’s a shame, I’m the type of person who always wants to improve and get along with everyone, I made some lovely connections with customers and staff, I had met the owner on several occasions, and he was the nicest owner I met, based on my previous jobs, but I can’t get over the fact no one would alert you if you have gotten a complaint or an issue, which would lead to your sacking. Just because the manager and other people don’t do breaks for 9hrs work (which they’re entitled to bearing in mind) that does not mean I can’t say, no, I’m taking my break.
14/03/2025: Big toasties of very good quality at an excellent price! Perfect for a takeaway quick stop, but you can also sit outside if you wish. Highy recommended

The Brasserie at Clayton Hotel Leopardstown

Dublin
