Asked was I here for takeout or sit down ,when said sit down she replied with Sit down and I take you order.As tables are away from counter i asked how was I to see cakes from there to which she shouted what do you want then .let say we left with out ordering .please train your staff on basic manners

08/02/2025: Nice and friendly atmosphere, and usually the food is on point but today I ordered a BLT and the bacon wasn't close to being cooked. So, very disappointing but the chips were good. Nice and crispy on the outside, tender and fluffy on the inside.

18/04/2025: We have always enjoyed our breakfast at Bakestone. We’ve been happy and satisfied customers here for many years. However, today was different. Dreadful and upsetting experience here this morning. Went to Bakestone, as we have done for a long time, to meet friends for breakfast. We arrived ahead of our friends and ordered coffee from the server while we waited for our friends. We told the server that we would order our food once they had arrived. At this point in time another member of staff, who was manning the till, arrived and advised the staff member that there were clearing tables. We were asked to go ahead and order our coffee. This we did. At the till, an extremely rude and somewhat aggressive member of staff demanded that we return to the order area as we didn’t have a table number. We politely informed her that we were asked to go to the till by the other member of staff. She became very animated and very sharp with us. Her tone with us was totally unacceptable. She mentioned something about a leaking roof and she didn’t have any tables. We responded that we were asked to go and order our coffee at the till. The person on the till continued to be rude and very confrontational with us. We asked the initial server if we could speak with a manager. We were advised that the person on the till was the manager. We were then told we could sit outside with our coffee. We make the decision to have our coffee outside as advised and wait for our friends. We decided not to order any food and when our friends arrive advised them not to order food. We would go elsewhere for breakfast. Dreadful customer service and could not recommend this establishment. I can see from the reviews that there is a pattern of poor reviews here.

25/05/2025: Stayed here for one night. Staff very nice, lovely old charm hotel. Parking on site free and plenty of it. Only down side was bar food. We ordered fish cakes as a main, but really they should be advertised as "potato cakes"... Could not taste fish in them let alone find some. Very disappointing aspect of what was a nice hotel in general. Prob would stay here again, but definitely would not be ordering fishcakes for dinner!!

21/04/2025: Menu is simple but sometimes the simplest of experiences are the best. Wow, was it tasty and fresh. You simply have to have a hot ham and cheese croissant with relish and the warm ham and cheese scones ( yes scones) with relish as well. Desert wise the warm apple pie with ice cream, the moist carrot cake and the apple and cinnamon crumble were just delicious. Prices were reasonable and what a great environment, nestled in the Cobh heritage centre, near Cobh train station. Special thank you Donna and Ashley for looking after us.

24/04/2025: From the moment you enter with the extremely friendly and warm welcome to the decor and calming atmosphere, an experience!! We had a fantastic evening choosing the tasting menu with the accompanying wine recommendations, each step, glass of wine and plate was explained in great detail by Elaine and her wonderful staff. The food was amazing, worth every penny in our opinion and the overall experience was outstanding!! We’ll be back, thank you Elaine and Rob!!

21/04/2025: Can't find much fault here.Food 5 stars, service and atmosphere not. I have given 5 stars to all 3 categories on my rating because I feel this place is worthy of 5 stars despite its less than 5 star delivery on service and atmosphere. The menu here was beautiful, every single dish was great. From the in-house charcuterie, the wild and foraged ingredients to the superb treatment of said larder, brilliant. Wine list was small but wine pairing was excellently judged. Negatives, not much really, nitpicking at best and definitely circumstantial.Atmosphere is very hushed and we found ourselves whispering mostly and service is compromised by the fact that as far we could tell (which may be incorrect) there were only 4 staff in the restaurant full stop (kitchen,waiting, front of house etc). So in conclusion if all you are interested in is beautiful food check this place out it superb.

12/02/2025: Beautiful estate and landscape with trails and James Turrell Sky Garden. The chef at the restaurant worked without prior notice to give us exceptional vegan options and also accommodating my food allergies. Wonderful library. We will return.

10/02/2025: We had a very relaxing stay, thanks to the hotel’s limited number of rooms, which made for a peaceful atmosphere. The open fire in the evening was a lovely touch, adding to the cozy ambiance. Our room was modern and well-equipped, complete with a Nespresso coffee machine. However, there was an unpleasant smell in the room, which may have been due to animals being allowed to stay there. The staff were very helpful and friendly throughout our stay, which made a big difference. However, dining options were quite limited. The only available choice was the restaurant menu, which doesn’t cater to all needs. For example, after a late lunch one day, we wanted a small bite in the evening but found there was no bar menu—only the full restaurant menu, which is quite expensive for the portion sizes. Given that there are also limited dining options locally in Skibbereen town, it would be helpful if the hotel offered a more flexible bar menu. That said, the hotel’s grounds are beautifully maintained, with lovely walking trails that add to the charm of the location. Overall, it’s a great place to unwind, with excellent service, but a few improvements in dining options and room freshness would make the experience even better.
