16/07/2026: Popped into Conkers in Ballybofey at the weekend and was really impressed 😊. The place was absolutely jam-packed, which is always a good sign, and there was a great atmosphere with plenty of locals enjoying themselves 👍. We had the chicken goujons and a deli roll, and both were spot on 😋. The goujons were crispy, tender and served with a really tasty dip, while the deli roll was fresh, well-filled and exactly what you want for a satisfying lunch. The staff were friendly, welcoming and kept things moving despite how busy it was 👏. You can tell it's a popular local spot for a reason. Just a note for anyone visiting: parking is available on the street nearby, but it's paid parking. It wasn't an issue for us and there were spaces available 🚗. Overall, great food, friendly service and a lovely local vibe. We'll definitely be back! 🍽️😊

08/08/2026: Lovely place , is not dog friendly unfortunately! / staff made a exception for us as we had travelled and have a small well behaved dog 🐕 ( thank you) the bar was beautiful the cocktails really tasty and the food we grabbed from the takeaway belonging to them was lovely too win win 🏆 x

06/08/2026: We loved the rusty mackerel, real irish charm, fiddlers playing, peat fire roaring, great auld craic and guinness flowing ...after a days hiking in sleive ligh nothing could be better- just the rooms are a little boxy more like builders cabins but totally conducive to a good nights sleep

06/08/2026: Great pub, fantastic atmosphere, open fire, friendly staff. Food ok, good breakfast. Accommodation is challenging although very clean it is situated at the back of the pub in containers, our room did not have a window, small with a dog as well. Having said this once over the shock the bed is comfortable and water hot. The location is wonderful for walking.

14/07/2026: We arrived here at noon and the staff were friendly and very helpful. The food was delicious and there was lots of space to eat outside with our dogs. The prices were very reasonable and the portion size was large. We would definitely return.

13/07/2026: Something ‘fishy’ going on here? I know Chowder and Chicken begin with the same sound, but Chowder should definitely not taste like Chicken! Seriously, 2 spoonfuls were enough to wonder if this was a mistaken order, some desperate chef shortcut, or extreme cost cutting- strain the liquid from some bad cream of chicken soup mixture as a substitute for real cream, bung in some flavoring with an odd bit of fish, and no-one will notice? If not that, very hard to understand how Chowder could taste like that - unless it’s not made in the kitchen with fresh ingredients, but it’s mostly a pre-packaged heat and go.

10/07/2026: Many years ago over half a decade i arrived here with friends to sit down and chill and i was greeted by the most kind and welcoming women who was so nice as to give me a free water which inspired me to try the food because i didnt want ti leave without buying anything after her service and then i had the most amazing food i have ever had and even better views of the ocean 10/10

15/06/2026: We've always gone here. It's always been on the dear side but the portions and food has always been worth it. I don't mind paying if the food is good and I leave feeling full. Now it's not worth it. The food is great still but they have them plates with the big wide rim and the wee bowl part in the middle. So basically you're leaving hungry. The portions have got smaller and the prices haven't.

30/06/2026: We were here today. The name and pictures in the window bear no resemblance to what we got. At the entrance to the restaurant, there are beautiful photos of grilled meat. We asked for grilled steak. Look what they brought us. And for that, 25 euros? If you want real grilled meat, this place will definitely disappoint you. Why put such a pretty picture at the entrance if you don't cook it in the kitchen?

21/06/2026: Me and my fiancé ate here this evening, the staff were so pleasant, the service was brilliant and so fast and the food was excellent and not expensive at all. I couldnt fault anything with this establishment. Will most definitely be back when ever we are in town again.

01/07/2026: Vegan, vegetarian & plant-based travelers: just call ahead, and the kitchen will make sure to have a full menu of vegan starters and mains for you to choose from. Make sure to mention how many members of group are vegan, so that they can plan accordingly. We were very impressed with the service, and with the quality of the vegan options. We will definitely be returning soon!

12/05/2026: Our wedding day at this stunning country house hotel was nothing short of magnificent. The staff were incredibly friendly, professional, and wonderfully down‑to‑earth throughout the entire experience. Caroline is a fantastic manager. The venue itself feels like something lifted straight from a Jane Austen novel, full of charm and quiet grandeur. The grounds are beautifully kept and are picture‑perfect backdrops. Inside, the period‑style rooms and roaring fire create an atmosphere that is both cosy and timeless. The food was out of this world, and the service was truly second to none. Memories we will treasure forever.

09/07/2026: It's absolutely not worth it. Considering that the catch of the day is frozen fish and chips, I thought I'd get something good and fresh given the proximity to the port... but it's nothing like that. The food is like any other pub and it costs more. What a shame.

08/07/2026: Had a look through the reviews before coming and saw this is dog friendly which it is. Unfortunately they dont mention on any of the reviews that you can only order 1 thing off the menu if you have dogs with you a beer basket good value but not what we all were really after. It feels like the beach comber is losing business by having this silly policy in place as we where prepared to spend north of a €100 for some good food and Guinness. We only in the end decide to stay for a couple and move on. I am bit bitter about this as it was my dad's birthday and I wanted to treat him to a great meal and a Guinness. 1st time here and very disappointed.

31/05/2026: The food was ok, nothing to complain about on that front, but the service completely overshadowed any positives this restaurant might have had. From the moment we sat down, the waiter seemed to be anywhere but at our table. He rushed off repeatedly, forgot basic requests, and had to be chased down each time we needed something. It felt less like dining out and more like an inconvenience to the staff. The worst part came at the end. I stood waiting to pay for what felt like an eternity, in a near-empty restaurant, being completely ignored, not just by the waiter, but by all the staff present. There was no acknowledgement, no "be with you in a moment," nothing. It was dismissive and frankly disrespectful. When a restaurant is quiet and customers are still being treated this way, it speaks to an attitude problem, not a busy-night excuse. The food isn't bad, but I won't be returning until the front-of-house team learns the basics of hospitality. A shame, because it could be so much better.

12/07/2026: I never expected to leave a bad review to Kate’s but I have to be honest about my experience. I have lived in Sligo for 3 years and I work nonstop and am always really busy. So if I find some time to pop into Kate’s Kitchen to grab a cup of coffee, a delicious premade wrap or yogurt, and browse around I’m usually delighted to do so. Although, every time I have ordered my regular flat white with oat milk I’m having to wait for my coffee longer than the people who ordered after me and every time I gave my name and spelled it and the barista pronounces wrong. Usually when people pronounce my name wrong it doesn’t bother me but if people are getting their orders before me when I have ordered and paid for my order before them it is extremely annoying. I popped in yesterday to order my regular coffee and said my name is spelled “Zo” and when the male barista with glasses called out my order he read it, rolled his eyes and called for “Zoey”. You can say this was the last annoying thing I can actually take from this place cause I hoped my experience would get better each time but it didn’t. As much as I used to like going to Kate’s I think I have to stop going as I am tired of coming here thinking it’s a treat for myself and being treated like a subpar customer every time. And for 3 years this has been my experience.
