The best restaurants in Kenmare

12/11/2024: We had a really spectacular meal on our last night in Kenmare. I can't recommend it enough. The food and presentation was top notch, and the service was friendliest and best we had during two weeks in Ireland. Can't wait to return!

07/11/2024: Had an absolutely amazing meal here - it was well worth it! Beef Wellington, brisket, and the apple tarte tatin made for one of our favorite meals in all of Ireland! Service was excellent too!

27/10/2024: We had a lovely meal at no.35. We were sat downstairs which was a nice intimate vibe, staff were very friendly and attentive. The food was amazing, we had the prawn and spinach filo pastry and the haddock smokies for starters and the lamb Ragu and the wagyu burger for mains. We would highly recommend.

27/10/2024: The staff managed to find a table for us as a walk in and we are so glad they did. Service was fantastic, food was one of the best meals we’ve had for a long time - well worth the price. Would definitely eat here again!

28/10/2024: The hotel is very clean and cozy, the food delicious and the staff very warm and welcoming. I really recommend!!

20/10/2024: We didn’t stay here, but did have dinner. It was a warm evening so sat outside which was nice to people watch. Inside was also cozy too. The staff were lovely and helpful, the place was quite busy. Food was nice, and reasonably priced. Very touristy area. Would eat here again, if I was back in the kenmare area.

30/10/2024: We had a lovely time as a couple enjoying drinks, an appetiser, live folk music, and a charming bartender called Vojo. We highly recommend it for an affordable bite and brew plus memorable music making.

21/10/2024: We came here because Poff was taking a few weeks break (entirely wise decision to take breaks). We were told about this place from a local shop nearby. I had googled best places in Kenmare for breakfast and the Rookery was 2nd on the list..... I am nearly scared of what number 1 could offer, as Rookery produced one of the best tasting foods that had EVER passed my lips..... let us begin the food review: My food: 'Breakfast Sambo': I don't care what part of the island you're on, this is worth driving to this cafe, simply for this sandwich alone. A blissful blend of fried egg, sausage patty and bacon on a perfectly toasted brioche bap, which actually made a tear of sheer joy slip out! I choose no relish, and it didn't need it (for me personally). The food was beyond fresh, aromatic, tasty, succulent and juicy!!! 11/10. 'The Usual': this consisted of 2 pancakes, a wee metal pot of maple syrup, 1 sausage, 1 rasher of bacon and 1 fried egg. My partner wanted to try the pancake, so she cut a piece off, and with seriousness and extreme gusto she uttered "mmm, now that's a f@%king pancake!" 🤣🤣🤣 she was right. Buttermilk made, fresh, fluffy, perfect pancake of sheer authentic awesomeness!!! Maple syrup was perfect blend. The rest of the food, as previously mentioned, was beyond delectable, but was nice to have them separate out of the bap. Exquisite!!! My partner: Avocado and Toast: whilst this maybe doesn't sound too exciting, again this amazing cafe managed, firstly to provide a very balanced and healthy restaurant with many options of vegetarians and even vegans. However, this sandwich came with red Sauerkraut, something which my Polish partner had never conceived the idea to pair together. The result? Explosion of taste and scrumptious textures. We both couldn't talk easily. Hash browns were added. We also had a 1 shot cappuccino (partner) and a chai latte. It was the best I had ever drunk to date. The staff were all friendly and wonderful, with a special mention to Brian (funny and skilled waiter) and Emily (epic chef at the front of the kitchen) and her team. 1 of the best foods I've had to date in my life!!! I will be driving back from 3 hours away to eat this food again. I Will make it my business to return here again. Hope this reflects whatever anyone reading this experiences too. Thanks for reading

22/09/2024: Excellent breakfast and coffee spot in Kenmare. Probably the best coffee we got there. The staff is very amenable and professional The service is quick and impeccable.

04/09/2024: We ate in the restaurant on three evenings (reservations recommended, at least for non-hotel guests like us). Parking directly in front of the house. Very friendly staff. Fantastic food, the best during our 2 1/2 week tour of Ireland (with many good restaurants visited). Prices correspond to the level (two people, starter/main/dessert, wine, beer, various non-alcoholic drinks approx. 100 euros)

11/10/2024: I meant to amend this review months ago. Following this initial review I got a call from the manager first thing on Monday morning at 9 am. She was very apologetic and very very nice to deal with. I'm very grateful for her come back and her professionalism. We received a voucher for a 2 night stay as an apology. Very appreciated it. We won't let this experience change our mind and will continue to visit on our once or twice a year as previous years I have been staying in this place for the past 15 years. Never had one single issue. We were told the pool will be open until 9 pm so we took our time as we are on our holidays. Last entry to pool for under 16 is 7 pm (not told) - Arrived at the pool at 7.05 and no entry allowed for my 13 years old daughter. The young man Mike was extremely sarcastic and patronising with a dirty smirk on his face. Bad bad form will stay in Killarney in future. Disgusting behaviour. When complained to management at the reception the manager wasn't aware of the pool rules.

09/10/2024: The hotel offers a lovely atmosphere that made my stay delightful. I spent two nights and wished I could have stayed longer. The rooms are beautifully designed, and the restaurant staff were friendly and attentive. They clearly care about guest feedback, which enhances the experience. While the food was enjoyable, the tiramisu wasn’t quite to my taste. The leisure center is clean and well-maintained. Overall, my experience in Kenmare town center and at the Bay Hotel was fantastic—truly a perfect place to unwind.

02/11/2024: We had dinner in the Lime Tree last Saturday.. This was our first time here and it’s most definitely won’t be our last ! We’ve already planned our next visit ! I have to say it was one of the best meals we’ve had in a long time .. and definitely the best restaurant we’ve been to when visiting Kenmare .. The scallops were the best I’ve ever had ! The hake was perfection .. My husband had the chowder & steak .. The wine was also excellent.. the staff are so professional and so so friendly & helpful .. each & every one of them .. Michael the owner & chef goes around chatting to everyone after service is over .. He’s a lovely friendly person and what a talented chef ! the meal was better than some we’ve had in michelin star restaurants .. thanks for an amazing dinner

20/09/2024: Wow! Wow! Wow! We were in Kenmare to celebrate our daughter-in-law’s birthday. We came in without a reservation and they were super accommodating. I had the duck egg roll which was a starter special. The chef made it into a main and our waiter suggested the au gratin potatoes as a side. The duck egg rolls were served halved on a cabbage, bean sprouted peanut salad with a sweet chili dressing. The au gratin potatoes were done with cream that was steeped with rosemary. Absolutely incredible. I would eat it 7 days a week. My husband, son and daughter-in-law had the roast chicken special which they devoured. Gastropub food at its finest!

16/09/2024: We were offered the special - prawns. They arrived and were so leathery and over cooked they were inedible. We returned them and ordered a replacement meal, ribs which were very sweet, but tender. We had expected some recognition by way of one drink off the bill, but this did not occur. Disappointing.
