The best restaurants in Kilkenny

12/05/2025: Short ride from the ferry at Rosslare. Welcome and service was great. Food good. Place was a little care worn with lamps out in the dining area and our room had a live electrical box with its cover removed and loosely positioned in front so if you were so inclined you could give yourself a new hairstyle if you decided to poke around inside. The wiring beneath with exposed rear to patress boxes was also a concern. Despite the obvious electrical safety items we had a good stay here

09/05/2025: We were competing in a Bowls Competition in Mullinvat and stopped off to eat. Lovely servers to accommodate us as a group, Food was excellent Lovely Atmosphere and plenty of space.

17/03/2025: Wowsers what a fantastic eatary. I was across the road in The Green Angel and Rosie recommended Lekkers to me, for which I am forever grateful. To be fair from the outside it looks so unassuming and the decor is minimalist but quirky. I ordered the honey fried chicken and man oh man was the bar set to an almighty high, fried chicken never tasted so cluckin good and I'm not sure if it ever will again. The batter had a nice pinch of South African spices mixed in and it was both sticky and crunchy all at the same time, the chicken was juicy and succulent and those black pepper crumpets were a taste explosion. There was a wait because it's made to order and my Goddess was it worth it - 'ell yeah 🤘 I live in South Kildare and I'm so coming back to try some more and get in for opening and grab a freshly baked bread, by lunch time there wasn't a loaf to be had. It's been a while since a cafe has wowed me beyond wow. The staff are lovely and very helpful and chatty. I will be back ✌️💚🌞

16/02/2025: Had an absolutely amazing dinner in Lekker this weekend, the food was delicious, you can absolutely taste their passion for what they do, highly recommend

20/05/2025: We reserved an area with dart board and finger food for a group trip, and it was perfect. Staff were really good fun and even joined in a sing-song at the end of the night. Would definitely recommend Rafter's for a group night out. Note, we didn't stay overnight here but I didn't want to dock marks for that.

18/05/2025: Stopped in for breakfast and food was top notch and reasonable priced. Staff were very friendly Place is full of nice memorabilia Toilets were very clean Worthy of a visit

11/05/2025: The Clubhouse Hotel have refurbished beautiful new rooms which are outstanding . Food is fab , and whether you are visiting for a coffee or a stay it’s a fab hotel to visit . Location is great . Patrick st Kilkenny . You are right in town. Large carpark at rear of hotel for customers. Anne Biddy Good Luck Horse Shoes .

08/05/2025: I cannot recommend this place enough! I stayed there for 2 days and it was delightful. The old, grand interior makes you feel as if you stepped back in time, into a very fancy hotel. The staff is attentive and friendly, the location could not be more central. I reached all the sights within 15 minutes of walking. Will definitely go back

15/05/2025: Excellent place. The atmosphere is one of the best in all of Ireland, calm and relaxed. The food is good and the pints are excellent. The service is very good. I highly recommend it.

14/04/2025: My order was ready after 25 mins.A bit longer than some Chinese takeaways, but Probably a good thing as it shows they are busy.I eat Chinese food quite often and the food here was up there with the best. Delicious.

10/04/2025: Freshly prepared food, no msg, crunchy veg, good meat and beautifully cooked. This was on a Wed night, with constant local traffic in to get good food. The friendly lady at the counter was also exemplary. Best takeaway I've had in years. Fantastic spot.

23/05/2025: Recommended by the little shop across the street (thank you!), the establishment is nestled above a bookstore. The staff is very friendly, attentive, the service is fast, it was very good and plentiful! We felt good there, it was perfect 👌

07/03/2025: Burger is class and I'm not kidding, I was only going to have a pint with my meal but never had as nice a pint of Coors ever so I stayed for a couple more.

16/02/2025: I travelled to Kilkenny on Saturday for a short break. It was recommended to me by a friend. However when I booked the stay I was given a price of 160 euro per night. I then checked their website and found that Billy Byrnes bistro was advertising a room for 120 euro. I did not mention the price difference but thought I would query this point when I arrived on Saturday evening only to be told then that the price would be 180 euro. I was shown to my room by a very pleasant member of staff. The double room (8ft x 8ft) with ensuite (3ft x 3ft ) with no hot running water. The room had a double bed, no wardrobe, no chairs, a kettle that did not work however there was a stool. . My friend and I had a few drinks and an overpriced very nice meal but of (take away standard). The drinks we consumed were paid for as we went. Separately I was charged for the meal. I registered my visa card with the company by text 2 days before my arrival. However I was asked on 3 occasions to pay for my accommodation and I obliged as the member of staff was very pleasant and professional in her job at all times. The noise level I experienced in the room from the music downstairs kept me awake until 2am. I arrived down for breakfast Sunday morn at 8.57 am when i was met by a lady who informed me with a cold response and told me that breakfast did not start until 9am so i returned to my room. When i arrived back for breakfast I at this time tried to register my dissatisfaction but no one seemed to be interested. May I add that breakfast did not include cereal and a soft drink. The tea when it arrived was luke warm. The morning when I left the manager practically ignored me. If the situation as I see it as a customer does not change significantly then I will not be a return customer nor would i recommend the place to anyone else. Myself and my friend have been regular customers over the years but now feel very disappointed at the standards offered at such high prices.

20/02/2025: 1/4 pounder with cheese is one of the best burgers i ever tried in my life, also gave me some chips for free

12/05/2025: Very clean pub with nice live music and nice staff. Only had a few drinks so I can't say anything about the food.

09/05/2025: Cane here to watch the Delta Dogs play some blues and they were excellent. The only minor quibble was that they left a tv on so the some goons could stare & scream at a GAA match while ignoring the music!

09/02/2025: Gave stayed here many times while in Kilkenny for the weekend. Very reasonably priced. Rooms very clean and warm. Right in the city centre with parking.

09/05/2025: Lovely Staff, everything in one shop, spotlessly clean, gluten free foods available. Deli area is always busy. They have a great variety of fresh meat and fish to choose from. Also great choice of fresh fruit and vegetables.
