The best restaurants in Kilkenny

08/03/2025: the staff are NOT nice, one woman with short hair rolled her eyes at me and my partner because one of our items fell from his hands, she walked around us and gave us both a dirty look, so incredibly rude, unnecessary, we just needed groceries, WONT be back.

14/02/2025: The store looks like the Monoprix back home. Lots of choice. And the cashier we passed by was very nice.

15/12/2024: Enjoyed a lovely mixed kebab and chips recently for lunch. Huge portions. Highly recommend to anyone. Staff are pleasant, attentive and friendly. Will be back again soon.

19/03/2025: My wife and I stayed for two nights and ate in the hotel the 1st night. The food tasted like it has been reheated. I complained about the meal as my wife and I left most of it but all the hotel wanted was our money. €96 for substandard food! The restaraunt is tired and needs new direction and a new Chef in my opinion. I really hate to give bad reviews but The Ormonde Hotel needs a serious revamp as the surrounding compettion is very high and especially Zuni next Door!

20/01/2025: Kilkenny Ormonde Hotel was our first stay in Ireland and this is the hotel we were placed at for our package deal we booked through Great Value Vacations. Our flight came in at 9 am and after flying all night and being on a plane for 7 hours we were beat. We drove the 1.5 hours from the Dublin airport in hopes that the hotel would allow us to leave our baggage there, they were even kinder and allowed us to have access to our room early. We were able to freshen up before going to the Kilkenny castle. They room was large in size with a full size bed and a queen bed in addition to an arm chair with a table, a desk and chair, and a TV with a bench underneath. The bathroom had a tub/shower, sink and toilet within it. The bathroom was not my favorite there were cracks in the sink, a dark spot on the ceiling, and black looking spots in the shower. I think the bathroom just needs to be redone at this point, which is why I took away a star for the room. The room also had a safe which was nice. In regard to parking, the hotel staff explained nicely how parking worked. We were able to leave the garage and come back multiple times and pay a one day flat rate of 7.50 euros for 24 hours. Besides the kind staff, the location of this hotel was the best! We were in walking distance from many different food locations, the castle, and shops. I would staying here and if I return to Kilkenny I will most definitely make my arrangements here.

18/03/2025: Oh my giddy aunt- I would actually put this meal in the Top 5 meals I've had so far in my life. Anyone who knows me knows that I'm not a huge fan of mushrooms or anything with that texture, however I love anything pasta-like and Italian, which includes gnocchi. Holy mother of God, I've never tasted anything like the mushroom ragu with crispy gnocchi. The crispy gnocchi was divine, I have no words and 400 words to describe this dish! I can't stop talking or thinking about it! The flavours were beautiful. I would consider myself a fast eater but despite how hungry I was, I managed to slow down and savour every bite because I didn't want the bowl to empty! I have eaten in Statham's several times before, mainly for lunch/brunch and they have been delicious. I particularly chose Statham's on this occasion to get my friend to try the hash browns as a side but I was well and truly blown away by this main! I hope it never leaves the menu, I will be so upset if it does! Aside from my very obvious grá for this dish- the staff were fantastic, it was the Saturday of a busy Paddy's weekend, after the Six Nations match. They were so fab whenever we needed assistance and gave a great wine pairing for the dish- so much so, we had to take a picture of the bottle for future reference! All round 10/10 experience, I love Statham's and always recommend it to friends!

17/03/2025: Saint Patrick afternoon Stathams was exceptionally busy however floor team & waiting staff were so helpful to find extra seats . Menu was compact but plenty of choice order was taken promptly and food arrived in excellent time . Both dishes were superb and so fresh Cod and stew . We will be back

This old-school pub exudes a warm and welcoming atmosphere that immediately made us feel like regulars. The beer was absolutely fantastic - perfectly poured and ice-cold - just what we needed after a long day of exploring Ireland. But what truly sets Hackett's apart is the incredible staff. They were friendly, attentive, and went above and beyond to ensure we had a great time. Their genuine hospitality made our visit even more enjoyable. We had such a blast at Hackett's, laughing, chatting, and soaking in the authentic Irish pub vibe. It's the perfect place to unwind with friends and experience the true spirit of Ireland. We can't wait to return to Hackett's on our next trip to Ireland. It's a must-visit for anyone looking for a memorable pub experience!

06/03/2025: Is very central 10 mins walk to everything. Beds were quite uncomfortable, and there is no fridge, cutlery etc so you are encouraged to use the pub $$. Which is a shame some real Milk for a good tea or coffee would not have gone astray.

05/03/2025: Great room, comfortable bed, modern clean bathroom, big tv. Quiet and comfortable stay. Friendly helpful polite staff Excellent location and car park to rear. Dinner and break outstanding 👌🏼
