The best restaurants in Athlone

11/11/2025: I can't comment on the hotel itself, but we came to Bailey Bar on the recommendation of Timmy from Sean's Bar, and we were so glad we did! The welcome from a funny waitress was perfect, and we had a wonderful meal. I ate one of the best hamburgers of my life, carefully homemade (and thanks again to the waitress for putting up with my fussy refusal of any greens in my burger 🤣). The place is cozy and feels almost like home. Don't hesitate to stop by if you're in the area.

24/10/2025: Stopped in for lunch and ordered the cottage pie. It was excellent! Thoroughly enjoyed our meal.

02/12/2025: Christmas Party Night in the Athlone Springs Hotel was absolutely fantastic. From the minute we walked in the door we were looked after. We were greeted by 2 young men with big smiles who offered us complimentary drinks and were very helpful explaining what the different drinks were. We sat down for dinner , which was beautiful. The beef was melt in your mouth divine and the special recipe ice cream was to die for. There was a few games in between courses which I have to say the star of the show was Darren . He kept everyone entertained and was such a super host, i never laughed as much. The interaction with all the people was amazing. The music was brilliant, a great selection to suit all ages. Well done to everyone on the night, including waiters, waitresses, bar staff and management. Great night

30/11/2025: Recently stayed here for a wedding and the hotel was lovely, staff are amazing so pleasant and helpful! Room was perfect, all the facilities needed, iron, iron board, tea/coffee, hairdryer. Etc We asked for a later checkout which again was easy, €20 per hour. Food was lovely and they make a mean pornstar martini! SuperValu right around the could not even a minutes walk! I will definitely be back again!

18/11/2025: Today my partner ordered for delivery. We live about 3 minutes from the Athlone store. The driver decided to drive all the way to Moate with our order, and tried to deliver us extremely cold food. My partner called the store and asked for hot food instead, as we were hungry and waiting for over an hour. The store hung up on my partner and we waited for another 30 minutes for a new delivery. Instead our order was cancelled with no warning. My partner called again asking if we were getting a new replacement. The person in store said no, they cancelled the order because they couldn't contact the driver and made no effort to contact us to notify us that we would not be getting our food. The person in store hung up on my partner once again, without a single apology or warning. Not to mention every time we order, they will always go to the wrong address, never ordering there again. We were polite and patient but were firm in that we just wanted hot food. We understand being in customer service is difficult and can be stressful dealing with harsh customers, so we try to be understanding. But this was the last straw in how that store operates. Extremely rude staff, we were told we would be getting a refund after my partner had to ask if we would be. Hopefully we do get that refund otherwise it would be stealing our money. Very disappointing as the food is always good, just horrible service.

04/11/2025: Excellent deli counter. Supermacs good, but expensive. General small shop items available. ATM. Always busy spot.

26/10/2025: Food is as would expect from Supermac’sstaff are kind and courteous. It’s an awful pity that Google Maps did not outline - this is just the petrol station with supermac’s food counter. There is nowhere for my son (Bluebadge holder) or myself to sit down .. Was on the road from Galway back to Dublin. Don’t get me wrong. I’m a country guy at heart that’s why I chose S’Mc’s well used to eating in the car but it would’ve been nice to have been notified. Had we got seats and had access to toilet facilities to break the journey … So please post on Supermac’s website that there is no seats at this place and on Google Maps Please. Thanks

26/03/2025: Only called in to pick my husband up but stayed for hour and joined my niece nephew for coffee. Have to say overall good atmosphere great fire on just ladies toilet could do bit upgrade I'm not saying it wasn't clean..
