The best restaurants in Cavan

01/02/2025: I got a take away passing thru Virginia and was very disappointed about the food and service. I feel like it was a waste of money for me and tasteless food, my naan was burnt it was a very bad experience. I ring last night to give feedback and no one would answer.

27/01/2025: I found this restaurant very homely and comfortable and seemed a very popular local spot. The staff were very friendly and attentive from the minute we walked in. The food was ok, but not as spectacular as I would have expected from reading reviews before booking. We tried a few different dishes, including the wings, mushroom toast, Korean chicken, supreme of chicken, which were good, but again I wasn't overly blown away. It's still a very nice restaurant to visit if in Cavan town.

14/02/2025: Stopped off at this awesome cafe on the way through Cavan - massive selection of food.. anything we ordered was fresh, hot and tasty.. despite being very busy, the food came quickly. Really impressed with service - staff were very warm and friendly. This is a spot I'd highly recommend and have no hesitation stopping at again!

13/02/2025: What a lovely place to eat. The food was fantastic. The decor was amazing. It gave a great atmosphere. And to top it off, the staff are absolute gems. The young man that served us was so polite, friendly and attentive. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a great place to eat out.

13/01/2025: What a lovely inviting place for food. It was very busy.we had a table booked and did not have to wait too long until we were seated. We had to wait a while to be served a drink at the bar.food was gorgeous .Will be back.

01/01/2025: After dining at Shades, I tried my best to look for an imperfection not to leave a 5 star review, but found none. I ordered the steak and it literally melts in your mouth. Absolutely delicious. I also ordered the Crispy Brie with pecans (as shown in my photo), the first bite & I almost shed a tear. Lovely! And of course, great atmosphere and interior design, warm & cozy. Friendly & attentive staff, and a great service! To sum it all up in one word: Sublime.👌

09/02/2025: Lovely hotel and friendly staff with exceptional food! Pool however, was disappointing. 25 degrees is way too cold for children and was evidenced by limited usage. It is the only thing putting me off returning.

05/02/2025: Great help when government left the people of Cavan alone and unaided after the storm, allowed us to charge our phones etc,provided heat and food for us and quite frankly we're a saviour to many.Will not be forgotten in the future and should be frequented by all as a truly deserving and caring business. There are not enough stars on the scale that should be awarded to this establishment.

01/02/2025: The staff here are warm and friendly, extremely considerate and courteous. So that’s a great start. And then you can consider the ambience which is inviting and unpretentious with simple decor that still has enough to draw the eye to various areas of the space. The cocktails and wines available seem to offer choice without being overwhelming - another plus. The food here is, naturally, the star. Having eaten here twice now, I can safely say that it’s our favourite restaurant we’ve discovered since moving to Cavan 15 months ago. The food is not flashy or overly complicated. Instead, they make relatively simple food with good, fresh ingredients, and the result are dishes that are packed with satisfyingly rich and complementary flavours. Nothing feels too heavy or ostentatious, and we have left clean plates on both occasions. It’s a cliché, isn’t it, that you get what you pay for. The balance here feels right, and this evening, three of us had a three course meal with drinks for under €180. That feels like excellent value for the quality of the food and the impeccable service.

26/01/2025: Booked a table well in advance which is advisable. The food is spectacular, duck confit tartlet, braised pork cheek as starters, great blend of flavours & textures. Steak & halibut as mains..steak was on the tough side and the fish slightly overcooked but the accompaniments helped ease any disappointment. Strawberry tart with elderflower sorbet was really good, sorbet was gorgeous. Drinks orders were a bit slow but not the end of the world. Overall great food with a few minor let downs. Definitely worth a visit again. Have been back 25/01/25 and again food was great, definitely now on my recommended places to eat. Great atmosphere and staff are friendly and approachable…
