The best restaurants in Cork

13/10/2025: I have been getting Apache (Burgerhut Hollyhill) for a good few years. When the food is good, it's really enjoyable. But the food isn't always good (particularly the chips), and as a consequence, I feel the need, to write a review, in the hope, it will encourage Apache, to make some improvements. When ordering chips from Apache, staff will often serve you chips, that have been lying in the tray, for God only knows how long, mixed in with some freshly cooked chips.. Can I ask Apache management, why serve customers, old cooked chips, mixed in with fresh cooked chips..???? Its a very mean act, and I have to throw these chips in the bin, as they are hard & horrible. Why mix old, hard, precooked chips, that have been lying in the tray, with fresh cooked chips, and then serve them to a customer..?? Customers, should only be served, FRESHLY COOKED CHIPS..!! Can I ask Apache management, why you don't automatically serve your pizza's box's, in a paper bag..? If a customer orders a pizza, they may have to walk for 15 or 20 minutes, to get home. Carrying the pizza box, with no bag, means the Pizza, will lose a lot of heat, and the pizza can be cold, when the customer gets home. Also why don't you automatically serve the donor box, and chicken spice box, in a paper bag..? Again, these food boxes, are cold, by the time a customer walks home. Also the donor & chicken spice box, can leak sauce, which can destroy a car seat (if the customer is driving home) The stout, middle aged, short haired lady, that works in Apache, gets a bad pain, if a customer asks for a bag, to put a pizza box in, or donor/chicken spice box into.. Can I ask Apache management, to please supply, proper fitting, paper bags, and to offer them to customers, who are being served food, served in a box. Its really frustrating, having to continuously ask staff, for a proper fitting paper bag, to carry pizzas and spice boxes home in. I must say, most of the staff, are very obliging, when you ask them for a bag, with the exception, of the stout, middle aged, short haired lady, who always seems, to always have an issue, and an excuse, when a customer asks for a bag. If Apache, could introduce a policy, of not serving old, precooked chips to customers, and sort out the issue of supplying customers, with proper fitting, brown paper bags, to customers ordering food in boxes, (Particularly the issue, the stout, middle aged, short haired lady has, of placing food boxes into a paper bag) I will come back and give an up to date review. 04/11/2025: Underrated place, got a really tasty croissant with a lot of feeling inside! Very fast and friendly service . Sad that u can’t sit down there

29/12/2025: Delicious smash burgers and excellent skinny fries. Staff are friendly! Will definitely be back.

17/12/2025: Don't waste your money or time. the place is an absolute health hazard. dirty floors, pigeons roaming around the floors INSIDE. on top of this, the staff are rude and uninterested. kitchen is visible to the public and its a mess to say the least. The food is stale and cheap but not by price.... 15 euro for a stale sandwich with a drink. the chips I ordered arrived 20 minutes after I got my sandwich when I asked to just get them in a takeaway bag because it took so long the waitress rolled her eyes and came back with them rolled up in brown paper. chips are Tesco home brand from across the street mind you. they have a central lovely location a pity the owner has let it become the disgrace it is.

22/11/2025: Used to like popping in when in Cork City but found the waitress unfriendly atmosphere just unwelcoming not a place i want to stay in and enjoy lunch so left without ordering.

14/11/2025: Had lunch in here today, the portions were very small for the price - much better value to be had in other cafes in the city. The staff were rude, and it felt as if we were inconveniencing them by being there. Would not recommend.

15/11/2025: Food is lovely but I placed an order 1 hour & 40 mins, still hasn't being delivered. By the time it comes it'll more than likely be freezing. Usually service is good but last few deliveries I've had has being below par. An hour is OK to wait but this is taking the peeeeaaaas

19/09/2025: food was fabulous as always 10/10 beautiful curry, and lovely chips, best chineese food around, highly recommend, also the spare ribs in peeking sauce and the salt chilli duck is out of this world. the lady behind the counter fiona is so friendly and so good to my son always so friendly great food great service,

02/04/2026: Ordered 2 Massaman curry. Awful. Tasted like cleaning products. Teriyaki was tastless. Duck was the best of a bad lot of dishes. Very disappointed . I used to love Khor food.

26/03/2026: I don’t usually post things like this, but tonight’s experience deserves it. €20 for chicken, chips, rice and two tiny sauces — and the quality was honestly shocking. Dry, overcooked chicken and chips that looked and tasted like they’d been sitting there all day. I rang to complain and was told I’d be refunded — then got a call back to say the manager refused because I’ve “complained before.” Maybe that says more about the food than it does about me. In the middle of a cost of living crisis, people deserve better than this. Genuinely — would you pay €20 for what’s in these photos?

04/04/2026: Absolutely unacceptable service. I placed an order through Deliveroo and waited over an hour, only to find out the restaurant never even prepared it. Instead of contacting Deliveroo to report the issue or cancel the order, they simply did nothing. No communication, no update — just left me waiting. I eventually had to go to the restaurant myself, and only then was I told to cancel the order because they hadn’t made it. This shows a complete lack of professionalism and basic customer service. If they are unable to manage delivery platforms properly, they should not be accepting orders at all. A total waste of time — I would not recommend this place.

04/04/2026: Poor service, long wait with cold food. Staff were very rude when we asked where our food was for a group of 3. Wont be back. Atmosphere isnt nice. Rough crowd.

29/12/2025: Got a pizza and it was awful. Tasted horrible only had 2/3 slice before throwing the whole thing away. Felt sick after it. Delivery time was decent though and earlier than expected.

17/12/2025: Food was cold, portions were tiny, taste was average

14/11/2025: I came for their sourdough loaf only to be told it is only for sandwiches made there! I used to be able to buy and enjoy this wonderful bread before. Ridiculous!

09/11/2025: I would like to express my appreciation for the excellent service I received at the café. I felt genuinely well looked after, and they were attentive at all times. Because of this, I decided not only to stay for breakfast, but also to remain longer and have lunch there as well. Megan, the waitress, was incredibly attentive, and the young man at the till was very kind to us.

28/12/2025: The Farm Boy Burger was amazing until they changed the fried egg to a boiled egg, it just doesn’t taste as good and the thicker boiled egg is awkward to eat as well.

14/12/2025: I really love the spice cone and chicken cheese rolls. Only ordered fried rice with curry for once and they aren’t fresh, the oil has a rancid taste. The servers are nice.

23/12/2025: Omg , food is so gross . I'd rather die of starvation than eat here again! Absolutely vile 🤢 🔴 Large Sign outside says Opened Christmas Day !! Very disrespectful to Irish people. I believe you live in a country you should respect tradition. ( I miss Colin old owner )

12/12/2025: Normally a big fan, but tonight the two gentlemen behind the counter were terrible. Unfriendly, trying to charge the girls next to me for whole meals while they were each trying to order individual items.. Super slow. I just don't understand how I can be waiting 25!! Minutes for a wrap with 2 people on front of me. Way below the usual standard... Edit: After getting home and eating the food it was also not as nice as previous visits.. Time spent Vs Quality.. Not coming back. Ever.

14/02/2025: Very friendly staff and good service but food wasn’t good. Pasta al limone was inedible because it was so bitter and the tiramisu was frozen in the middle. Disappointing.

08/02/2025: recently visited Don gregorio, a fresh pasta spot in the city, with high expectations, but unfortunately, my experience was a mixed bag. I ordered the spicy pasta with guanciale, and I was disappointed to find that the dish didn’t include any guanciale at all. The pasta itself was clumped together, likely because it wasn’t loosened enough with sauce, and the sauce lacked flavor. For a restaurant specializing in fresh pasta, this was a letdown. On a positive note, the **mortadella focaccia** was excellent—well-prepared and flavorful. The **coffee and cannoli** were also highlights of the meal, and I’d definitely recommend them. One frustration was missing out on the **ragu special**, which is one of my favorites. I wasn’t informed about it by the staff but overheard the waiter telling other customers. It would have been nice to have been given the same opportunity to try it. Overall, while there were some bright spots, the inconsistency in the food and service left me underwhelmed. I might give it another try in the future, but for now, I’d recommend sticking to the appetizers and desserts.
