30/05/2025: Food is OK but left us short a portion. Also managed to mix up a relatively simple order. Relatively small portions.

20/03/2025: Very good food. Good old fashion chipper. Really good menu.

12/05/2025: The location is great, plus the building gives a very cozy vibe. Room size was good. The bath tub was slippery, almost fell 3-4 times while showering. Service was decent The breakfast staff were a bit rude there was no one at the counter to guide us to our table after waiting for 10 mins, we went ourselves and the staff came and said we can’t sit without checking with them by the way we were the only ones there no one else, don’t know what the fuss was about. Can skip the breakfast not worth the price. Rest was decent

09/05/2025: Stayed for one night for a day visit, stopping over between country-side travel and heading back to Dublin. Elegant traditional decor mixed with some modern touches. Complimentary coffee-tea setup in the bedroom, but there were no water bottles in the rooms. Surprisingly, the tableware lacked quality. The spoons in the room were made of a soft metal that would bend as I gently pressed my tea bag. And when I went to the restaurant downstairs for a cup of tea, the ceramic creamer had a chip. Hmm. I’ll ignore that on the stars since the lovely young woman gave it to me on the house even if we didn’t get the complementary breakfast since my family will be going to the English market first thing in the morning when they are all ready to go. Some scent of cow fields wafting up to the outdoor patio. But after a while of sitting out there the nose adjusts. And I used to live near cow farms, in Kent, Connecticut. So for me, that’s just nature and sentimentality😂 I encountered comfortable beds! Modernized and clean bathroom with a double sink. Perfect for the designated driver (moi) after three hours of exhausting, winding, hilly driving for an American who is trying left-side driving for the first time! Gentle-mannered staff. Heated toilet seats in the downstairs ladies room! And early morning bird song and a sunrise accompanied me on the outdoor patio.

05/05/2025: Food was grand- a bit pricey but nowadays isn't everything going up. Certainly was not clean, in fact it was not good enough hygene wise

06/04/2025: A lovely spot for a coffee break in Cork! The cappuccino was expertly made — smooth, creamy, and full of flavor. The chocolate cake was incredibly rich and delicious, a real treat for any chocolate lover. The staff were super friendly and welcoming, making the experience even more enjoyable. Highly recommended!

03/04/2025: A hidden treasure in the city to grab a cup of coffee with a friend. Nestled in amongst the small shops at Winthrop arcade, Cocoa is a fantastic independent coffee shop to support in a Cork City.

08/01/2025: Always meant to visit this café and safe to say it will be the first and last. The café is cramped, tables outside but it's shared with another popular café and it's within a narrow hallway so it's not appealing. Café has an upcharge for dairy alternatives/plant drinks, predatory to those with dietary sensitivities. No toilet facilities on site. They claim their hot chocolates are made with 'real chocolate' but it was powdered chocolate. Gritty after taste and it was nothing special, for the price point we were expecting more. Tables were dirty, with some patrons clearing tables to get a table to sit at. Service staff were busy and were kind enough to bring out our beverages outside the shop as there isn't sufficient space to wait inside.

12/04/2025: The Southern Star is a lovely little bar. A small front pub area with some secluded tables, an area towards the back with ledges against the wall, a pool table (with terrible cues,) and a nice smoking area sitting above the South Link. It’s a little on the expensive side but what you pay for the booze is more than made up for with the atmosphere and setting. They were happy for me to taste the wine (a Pinot noir) while a woman I met there that night was only delighted to let me taste her rosé. Both wines were superb and it’s telling the people were relaxed enough straight from my arrival to share their drinks. They had the Manchester United game on the TV and I’m sure they show the rugby as well. I was hungry and asked for some Scampi Fries but they didn’t have them. Instead they gave me a free bag of Snax. Some friends (one a Jameson drinker) are interested in going, too, and I told them the burgers looked exceptional value. The only questions are when the food truck is open, if they do chips, and the whiskey drinker wanted to know if you get chips with your burger? I think she wants to dip into her partner’s grub... A warm and cosy bar — with space for a smoke if needed — it’s a pub I’d love to take my nearly seventy year old mother to to watch a Munster game, or my buddies who need a break from their kids (or they could bring their kids knowing it’s a fine family friendly place.) Me Mam would definitely love it and my buddies already do; as did I on my night in there. Patti Smith and Black Sabbath playing on the speakers was just the icing on the cake, me bopping away! I’ll be back, if they’ll have me!

26/05/2025: We had a 50th there over the weekend. This pub is full of Irish charm either all the traditional surroundings. Nothing was a problem and all our needs were catered for. I have to say it was Sean (the barman) who made this pub truly special.He was friendly, chatty and served every drink with a smile, had a chat with people making it feel welcoming and homley. A bar should always have a welcoming barman, which in my opinion is hard to find these days. So if you want to have a few really nice drinks where you can relax and enjoy the atmosphere I would recommend An Sibin. Thanks for looking after us Sean we really appreciated all you did. We will defo be back.

20/05/2025: Ichigo Ichie offers a warm dining experience with attentive service that sets the tone for the evening. I started with the fried oysters, which lacked a distinctive flavour and felt a bit underwhelming. However, the meal quickly picked up with the duck soba: rich, balanced, and full of depth. The highlight, though, was the matcha panna cotta for dessert: a beautifully crafted dish with a memorable mix of textures and flavours that left a lasting impression. A great spot for a thoughtfully curated Japanese meal.
