The best restaurants in Dublin

11/05/2025: One of the most disappointing dining experiences we’ve had in quite some time. I don’t tend to leave negative reviews—this is probably my first. We travelled almost an hour to try this restaurant after being tempted by some appealing social media posts (note to self: this may be the last time I let TikTok guide my dinner plans). On arrival, we were greeted by a lovely sea view, but sadly, that’s where the positives ended. After being seated, we were left waiting around 5–10 minutes before anyone brought us menus, despite only two other tables being occupied. The two members of staff on the floor were standing at the till during this time, which didn’t make sense given how quiet it was. When our server did eventually arrive, she seemed completely uninterested. It felt like serving us was an inconvenience. We tried to shrug it off—we were out on our first kid-free date in over a year and really wanted to enjoy the evening. We ordered a variety of starters (5) as we like to try a mix of new dishes, but unfortunately, every single one was incredibly bland and lacked any distinct flavour. Easily some of the most tasteless food I’ve encountered in a restaurant. To make matters worse, the service didn’t improve. After the starters, our waitress came to reset the table for mains but simply placed my fork beside me and left the knife in the centre of the table—again reflecting the overall lack of care or professionalism throughout the evening. The mains were, unfortunately, just as disappointing. My wife’s Singapore noodles tasted like plain noodles dusted with curry powder. I ordered the “fillet beef with Szechuan hot sauce,” which was more like boiled beef in lightly salted water. I’m still trying to forget the taste a day later. We’re both huge fans of Chinese food—especially authentic, well-prepared dishes—so this was a major letdown. It’s rare we get the chance to go out for dinner together, and it’s a shame that it turned out this way. Like another review here, I’m honestly surprised this restaurant has a 4.3-star rating on Google. Based on our experience, I can’t say we’ll be back, nor could I recommend it to others

11/06/2025: I took my father here this evening - to the Terrace - and had a great time. We had tried to book a window seat, but upon arrival there were none available. The wonderful front of house said he would do everything to help us. I had told him it was an early father's day dinner for my dad. We were seated in a non window seat initially, but within 15 minutes, due to a no show, he moved us to a 4-top, but made it for just the two of us. My dad had the Dublin Bay Prawn Scampi, and loved every second of it (his appetite can be off, so it was brilliant to see!). I ordered the burger (without pickles), but it arrived with pickles which put me off a little. I removed them from the plate and one of the hostesses asked if everything was OK (truly I didn't really enjoy the burger..too much sauce and the pickle residue was still lingering on the burger) and I just told her it's lovely but I asked for no pickles (I didn't want to ask for a fresh order bc it seemed ridiculous!). She came back later in the meal to say the desserts were going to be on the house - I tried to protest and say it's not a problem, but when the bill came, they weren't there. As a result I left a very generous tip for the servers. The desserts were delicious. Dad had the sticky toffee pudding and I had the meringue roulade (very sweet, but I had room after not finishing my burger). All in all the service was hit and miss (we were neglected a bit at the beginning in favour of the bigger, more demanding tables, and I had asked for a sauce top up which came after we had finished - but I understand they were under pressure), but the managers really stepped up and made it a special night. My dad, most importantly, has been waxing lyrical about it since. They also had a good selection of non-alcoholic wines for him, which was really refreshing. I would definitely go back again - and order the scampi!! Top top marks to the fronts of house...you made it a lovely evening.

29/05/2025: Not what I expected. The place itself is cool to hang out with friends – they have darts, foosball, and pool tables, which is a nice touch. But overall, I wouldn’t come back anytime soon. The food is extremely basic, nothing special at all. Some staff members seemed friendly, but the woman who appeared to be the supervisor (possibly Brazilian, like me) looked very stressed and didn’t seem interested in making customers feel welcome. I even noticed some staff (also Brazilian) chatting behind the bar, and honestly, it felt like they were gossiping about every customer that walked in. When I joined my friends at a table, there weren’t enough chairs for me and my girlfriend. I went to grab two from an empty area, but the supervisor approached me in an annoyed tone, saying I couldn't take them because the tables were "reserved" – even though there were no signs indicating that. I asked if I could take chairs from another spot and she said yes, but she didn’t smile or show any warmth at all. The service felt indifferent at best. It’s a decent spot for group games, but if you're looking for good food or respectful service, there are better options.

27/05/2025: What an absolute joke. Ive been coming here best part of 2 years. I turn up to be told by a man standing in the doorway he is the manager when he actually looked more like a homeless man off the street telling me I cant go in because im wearing shorts (in summer) even though there are people inside wearing shorts ans skirts and all I wanted was a burger and chips.. as if this place wasn't going downhill enough now you've got a manager if he even is the manager who squares up to customers telling them they can't go in for wearing shorts

13/04/2025: Ambiente/vibración fantástico, un retroceso total a los años 70 y 80, pero no se siente cojo y anticuado, comenzando por la sensación secreta de entrada y el viaje por las escaleras. Tranquilo, buena comida y una gran carta de vinos. El servicio también era excelente y la música encajaba con el ambiente. Estuve en Irlanda durante aproximadamente 2 semanas y este fue el descanso perfecto de la vida del pub. ¡Volveremos al 100%!

02/02/2025: Visitamos La Cueva con la esperanza de una auténtica experiencia gastronómica francesa, pero desafortunadamente, la comida y el servicio no cumplieron con las expectativas. Como nota positiva, el lugar en sí es hermoso y tiene un ambiente elegante, preparando el escenario para lo que esperábamos que fuera una gran comida. Sin embargo, la comida estaba lejos de ser auténtica, y nos dejamos cuestionando si el chef tiene formación formal en cocina francesa. Comienzo: La sopa de cebolla francesa fue decepcionante y careció de los sabores ricos y profundos que definen este plato. Principal: La caña de cordero era promedio en el mejor de los casos, y las guarniciones no la complementaban bien. Los sabores se sentían desiguales. Postre & queso: La selección de quesos sabía como si procediera de un supermercado local, y las galletas saladas eran galletas saladas estándar de Carr directamente de un paquete, difícilmente lo que se esperaría de un restaurante que tiene como objetivo ofrecer una experiencia gastronómica francesa. Tampoco había servicio. Mientras que los camareros eran amables, tuvimos que pedir todo — agua, limpiar la mesa, e incluso el siguiente plato. Hubo poca atención, lo que hizo la experiencia frustrante. En general, aunque La Cueva tiene un entorno hermoso y elegante, la comida y el servicio no estuvieron a la altura de las expectativas. Desafortunadamente, no lo recomendaría para aquellos que buscan una verdadera experiencia gastronómica francesa.

31/03/2025: Used to love this place. As a French person their baguettes used to be great but it’s gone downhill lately as they scale and then we ordered a birthday for our 9 year old which they didn’t make and blamed us, Square, everyone else but themselves. Wouldn’t rely on them!

10/06/2025: Fantastic experience! It's all about Albert Guinness family and history, and all the facilities are totally top notch! Beautifully restored with all the mod cons incorporated tastefully. Loved the outstanding food, drink, service, and, of course, the weekly live music! And only a few minute drive to the airport! Highly recommend it!!

10/06/2025: Absolute nightmare. The owner N.C is well known within the locality as being a short tempered, hostile publican with little or no people skills and very abrasive. Went in 7/6/ 2025 with my two sons, one who has quite a severe case of autism and is prone to making sounds. The owner, elderly man in his 70s kept looking in our direction increasingly and with growing frustration finally approached us and simply stated it would be better if you leave and " Go elsewhere" as there's other paying customers. He then recommended a local McDonald's at Artane Castle and told us that would be more " suitable". To say I'm shocked would be a complete understatement, I've never in my life witnessed anything quite like this. The shame and embarrassment felt was shocking. Our sons were absolutely heartbroken and couldn't understand why we were asked to leave, they could not sleep that night with the sense of sadness and bad feelings.

17/06/2025: Very rude staff who walked into me as I was sitting down. Food came slowly and would not recommend or visit again.

16/06/2025: First time living here in 5 years, and it didn't disappoint. They really played some great music tonight.
