The best restaurants in Galway

31/07/2026: We stopped at this hotel yesterday evening while travelling through Tuam for the first time. We were seated quickly, our order was taken promptly, and the food arrived in good time. My daughter ordered the chicken curry, which she absolutely loved. Unfortunately, my fish and chips were a completely different experience. The chips were lovely, but the fish was very cold. I initially thought it might have been the tartar sauce, but after another bite it was clear the fish itself was cold. I even asked my daughter to try a small piece, and she also felt it seemed undercooked and soft. It took a while to get a waiter’s attention. When I finally did, I explained that the fish was cold and appeared undercooked. He apologised, took the plate away, and never returned. No replacement was offered and nobody came back to check on us. When I went to pay, I explained the situation to another woman member of staff who was very rude about it. Rather than showing any real concern, I was told that because I had eaten some of the chips and taken a couple of bites of the fish, I still had to pay the €20. The charge was eventually reduced to €8 because I had eaten “the chips and lettuce.” So even at that €8 for a few fries some salad was very over priced. I wasn’t looking for a free meal I simply expected a hot, properly cooked replacement or, at the very least, an apology and better customer service. Mistakes happen in busy kitchens, and I understand that. What I can’t understand is how the situation was handled. I left feeling my concerns weren’t taken seriously. It’s a real shame because my daughter’s meal was excellent, and the service was quick initially. Unfortunately, the poor handling of a genuine complaint has completely put me off returning.

08/04/2026: This is one of my new “locals” having just moved home to Portumna. There is a large TV in the bar with a couple of darts boards as well. Friendly staff and a cracking pint of the black stuff.

02/12/2023: Website said opening at 12h00 and upon arrival at 12h30, it looked abandoned.

22/10/2023: Don’t eat here it gave me food poisoning from what I did eat.. Meat was sour and guac was definitely from frozen not fresh at all.. really really disappointing

21/10/2023: I am going to be honest, it was really dissapointing. The salsa was sour and tasted gone off, and vinegar ish.. had to actually spit it out - that’s how bad it was . The “guacamole” wasn’t actually guacamole, it was a creamy, very obviously store bought avocado dressing/dip. Not nice at all. Although the worker was an absolute sweetheart. Wont be back again.

03/09/2024: Buena comida. Más adecuado para ocasiones más formales. El servicio era un poco variable cuando estuvimos allí. La próxima vez iría al bar, la misma cocina tan tonta que me gustaría ser buena pero menos formal. Bar y casa de campo hotel eran encantadores. Gran ambiente y hermosa arpa tocando en la noche que estuvimos allí. Lujoso y relajado.
