The best restaurants in Kilkenny

10/08/2025: We went with three children for a snack, and it's a small but charming place. The pastries were delicious, as was the coffee. Highly recommended.

09/03/2026: Only 2 of us in Petronella for lunch Sunday 8th March, no other diners! We were there from 12.35pm, no heating, radiator beside us cold ! We just had main and dessert, Hake lovely but "baby sautéed potatoes" were dreadful, tasted like previous evenings leftovers. Desserts were okay, but expensive at €10 each. We had one glass of merlot and a bottle of cider . Bill was €93 . NEVER AGAIN.

02/01/2026: A good friend and local recommended here so we decided to treat ourselves on the last day of 2025. My husband and I shared the garlic prawn plate with homemade bread at €15 which whilst delicious was small in volume. I ordered the fish of the day (cod at €24) and my husband had the battered fish and chips with mushy peas and tartar sauce at €19.50. Fish was fresh and tasty. Our children had a choice of sausage and chips or battered fish and chips and ordered one of each at €10 each. The only thing I would change would be to add some vegetable to the kid's meal to make it more balanced, healthy and filling. For drinks, we had water for the table, glass of milk (€2), Miwadi (75 cent) and a glass of Horgelus at €9. Overall, very impressed with the quality here. Recommended if in Kilkenny.

06/12/2025: We had a small Irish breakfast and it was very good! Everything was hot and fresh! Staff was very accommodating! Would highly reccommend! Sorry I forgot to take pictures.

22/09/2025: Friendly and authentic gem. Fresh, delicious sandwiches with highest quality ingredients, made to order, with care. Very good value! We had a lovely outdoor picnic on this beautiful sunny day and enjoyed every bite.

02/03/2026: We were so pleased to find this lovely gem of a cafe on our visit to Kilkenny. It was so peaceful, with great service, and tasty food. I was able to get a couple of different gluten free options, including a scone and a sandwich - they also mentioned vegetarian options on the menu!

15/12/2025: This place is awful. The food is terrible, service is worse and it's expensive. We ordered the burger and vol au vent and they were horrible. The salads are bland and disgusting. The server was rude, clueles and didn't even know what lager beer was, so we drank water. Please avoid this place. It was just horrible. I made sure to tell our tour guide never to recommend this place again. In fact, don't bother going to Kilkenny at all. It's not worth it.

13/10/2025: The best pub in Kilkenny. Spent a few hours with some locals there. The best group and lots of fun. Best Guiness to be had there. Didn't eat there. Don't know if they have food.

But sadly I will have to be honest and give a negative review here : I was in there a few weeks ago for the classic burger and chips that I always enjoy the times I go in. Chips were delicious as always 💯 But this time I realised there was a new chef and I seen that he was not wearing any gloves making other peoples burgers or whatever was halfway through my burger when I realised it. And whatever way I looked eating my burger I saw it was pink on the inside and I had to leave it behind. About an hour or so later after being in there ⚠ I was throwing up and was on the toilet every few minutes ⚠ My stomach was in a very bad way. And I was totally fine before that. 🔴PLEASE DON'T TAKE ME WRONG - THE FOOD IS ALWAYS DELICIOUS 5 / 5 STARS 🔴 But after a few weeks ago after what happened that sadly has done me for a while. Apart from that tho positively - Staff are very friendly and service is fast
